Dave wants a Sold Out election
Posted by Joe Maliszeski in Politics at 7:15pm on Friday, Aug 27th, 2004Dave Matthews, along with Trey Anastasio of Phish and members of The Dead, will appear in a series of TV, radio and internet public service announcements intended to raise voter registration and turnout for the upcoming election. The nonpartisan organization, HeadCount, is behind the "Show Up" ads, part of a campaign it calls "Get Out The Vote". The ads, filmed at the Bonnaroo festival this past June, use the metaphor of a giant concert "celebrating freedom, community, and expression; one that captures the spirit of an era and makes history overnight; a gathering so huge that the whole country is invited, [but] nobody shows up." Dave Matthews is shown saying "On election day this November you'll have a chance to exercise the most important right we have as Americans. Do this country a favor, show up and vote." The three 30 second PSA's are viewable on the HeadCount website. A limited edition HeadCount poster, featuring pictures of DMB and other bands, is also available from the DMB Store and the Headcount Store.
