Dave Honors Michael Jackson With Jackson 5 Classic

Instant Classic

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News at 11:30pm on Saturday, Jun 21st, 2008

To say the least, the on-line DMB fan is fickle at best. We're constantly searching for that perfect show - the one that we read on paper as having every song we want to hear.

SPAC night two had it.

There were so many bright spots to the June 21 show, it's hard to pick a starting point. Lets start with the new 'in' song; Shotgun. DMB returned the most popular song from their 2006 debuts for the first time in 2008 (after a few sound checks). Other popular (of late) songs The Dreaming Tree and Rhyme and Reason - with Tim's solo in the middle, also appeared during the show.

The star of the night had to be #40. Dave teased it the night before, promising the fans the song the following night. And boy did they deliver. The band broke out the closest thing to a full-band #40 since 2000, with Tim, Stefan, and Carter performing with Dave on a more-upbeat than usual #40.

The biggest surprise song-wise of the night (and perhaps the tour) was the return of 2007 song A Dream So Real. Dave shifted over to Piano to perform a part formerly played by Butch Taylor (remember him?).

And just when you thought that there was nothing else to add (outside the already outstanding tour its been), the crowd actually sang lead - with Dave standing away from the mic - for the first two stanzas of Jimi Thing! Dave was kind enough to sing the chorus, but never has an incident happened like that in DMB show history.

The general consensus that this 2008 tour is at the very least the best tour since 2000. Shows like this have people reaching back to 1998 and beyond to find something that compares to night two at the SPAC.

And yes, no Everyday nor Stand Up songs on this show.

June 21, 2008 will live in DMB lore as one of the greatest shows ever.
