Dave Matthews Band has its fifth-consecutive album debut at Number 1 with the release of
Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, according to BillBoard.com. The album sold 424,000 copies in its first week of availability, following up opening week sales for 2005's
Stand Up (465,000) with another monster release. The album is the third-best debut of the year, after Eminem's
Relapse (608,000) and U2's
No Line On the Horizon (484,000).
This news represents a milestone for the band, as they have now matched Metallica for the most consecutive chart-topping album debuts of all time. Dave Matthews Band might be best known for their live performances, but their studio albums continue to sell extremely well.
