DMB to Headline Charlottesville Charity Gig
Posted by Matt Yette in Charity at 3:45am on Thursday, Sep 7th, 2017It appears the rumors were true. Yesterday, it was announced that Dave Matthews Band would indeed be taking a break from their break, and performing at a benefit concert in response to the tragic events that occurred in their hometown just weeks earlier.
Billed as "A Concert for Charlottesville - An Evening of Music and Unity", the event will be free to attend, but there is a massive catch attached to that bit of news. Per the benefit site, "Tickets will be allocated initially to residents of the city of Charlottesville and the adjacent counties, and also to UVA students, faculty and staff with a valid University ID. An online ticket request period is underway at www.concertforcharlottesville.com and will end on Monday, September 11th at Noon ET. A limited number of tickets will also be available at a walk-up, no service charge box office at John Paul Jones Arena, on Friday, September 15th at 10AM ET." It's not as if all hope is lost, but that sounds pretty close to the case if you're hoping to make the trip for the show, and don't happen to live in the Charlottesville area. Also per the official site, "While tickets are free, attendees are encouraged to make a donation to the “Concert for Charlottesville Fund” at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. Beneficiaries of the fund will include victims of the events in Charlottesville on August 11 and 12, their families, first responders, and organizations devoted to the promotion of healing, unity and justice locally and nationwide."
In addition to Dave Matthews Band, there are a number of well-known acts joining them for this event, including Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, Ariana Grande, The Roots, Brittany Howard, Cage the Elephant, as well as "Special Guests."
