DMB 2018 Rumor Summer Tour Dates

Posted by Sean Balogh in Tour News at 5:07pm on Saturday, Jan 13th, 2018

Hey gang! Hank Williams, Jr. once asked if everybody was ready for football and while his Monday Night Football opening song's been replaced we can paraphrase that tune with some "Are you ready for some DMB!?" It's mid-January, which means the Dave Matthews Band 2018 Summer Tour schedule is leaking like a sieve. Some dedicated and in-the-know users are sharing what they can over on our forums with fellow Ants, so let's gather around the campfire and spill what's been said. Is everybody here? Good. Without further ado, let's speculate:

It looks like the Dave Matthews Band Summer Tour 2018 is shaping up to be more of the status quo tour schedule as past years. The earliest date to be rumored is, once again, the typical (of recent years) tour start in Texas in late May. One night each for Austin and The Woodlands (May 18th & 22nd), and then heading over to southern Alabama (May 27th). (I hear most of the hotels down there have indoor plumbing by now, if that's what suits you.) Of interesting note, if the rumors stay true, the Alabama venue (Wharf in Orange Beach) only holds fewer than 10,000 fans. A small venue (kind of) overlooking (a creek that feeds into) the Gulf of Mexico sounds like a unique experience as far as Dave Matthews Band concerts go.

The month of June is shaping up to see a lot of the regular tour stops with a stop at Blossom Music Center outside Cleveland, OH (June 2nd) and a return to the highly rated Lakeview Amphitheater in Syracuse, NY (June 5th or 15th). Also a two night stand at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, NH (June 12/13th) (the band made their first stop there only two years ago in 2016.) Both Camden, NJ and Hartford, CT are fighting to claim the June 15th/16th weekend, only one can win out.

Alpine Valley Music Theatre I guess decided to give this year the old college try to open up for business/concerts. But hasn't planted its feet as dates for it have been very dynamic, ranging from July 4th weekend (both before and after) and early August (get ready to sweat.)

Moving through July there aren't too many shows being leaked yet. An annual trip to DeerCreek (July 6/7th) looks to be happening. But the gang has been known to take a month off mid-summer, and they probably will need a few weeks off after their annual stop at the picturesque Saratoga Performing Arts Center in touched-by-God beautiful Saratoga Springs, NY (firm July 13/14th). Known as a venue prone to double encores and high energy setlists with rare songs, a two week break of no rumored dates following SPAC wouldn't be much a surprise, and just prior to heading south to Tampa (July 25th) and West Palm Beach (July 27/28th). However, the break is a little bit of a departure from the norm as their mid-tour vacation traditionally has come after the West Palm weekend, and not before. (The break could still follow the Florida run with a potential Alpine date to follow.)

Rounding out the summer is a rumor (more of a not-yet-officially-announced) of a Labor Day/Dave Weekend at The Gorge back out west in Washington (Aug 31-Sep 2nd) and then south to Shoreline Amphitheater in the Bay Area (Sep 8th).

There are likely quite a few stops that haven't leaked and will be announced. For those geographically challenged of us, there seems to be a huge swath of the country not being included in leaked tour dates. The entire central US and west coast, from Arkansas out to California, hasn't been lucky to have rumors floating around (save for that lone Shoreline Amphitheater concert). Maybe they're just better at keeping secrets out there. (Don't keep secrets, help a hippie out!)

There's also some speculation floating around of an unnamed winter show in New York City sometime in either January or February, but it looks like we're running out of time on that one. And looming way off in the distance is Farm Aid which allegedly will see Misters Matthews and Reynolds return to Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT (not Comcast Center, that's in Massachusetts. Don't show up to the wrong one, folks.)

As previously confirmed, The Band will once again be playing in support of the NFL's Super Bowl. This year brings them to Minneapolis, Minnesota for The Night Before concert, held at the indoor arena in town on the Saturday night of Super Bowl Weekend (Feb 3rd) (somebody thought long and hard on the whole “night before” name.)

Do we really need to do a disclaimer in a write-up specifically about rumors and speculation? Listen, planning a cross country tour of one of the biggest bands on the road is not like planning your route through the grocery store (or maybe it is.) Dates and venues change as they try to work in everything they can.

Want to follow along with the rumors? Have some inside intel on a tour date? Come share with other dedicated fans (Anonymously is an option). Head over to the 2018 Rumor thread. Thanks to Ants member Chadizzy1 for the unofficial title of rumor curator.

However, if tradition holds, all of our worries will be put to rest relatively soon, tour announcements tend to be released around the end of January (*cough* this week please.) Until then, I'll be in the Route-50 Parking Lot at SPAC, waiting for everybody else to show up.
