Dave Matthews Band Announces 9th Studio Album

Posted by Jen Henson in Album News at 5:37pm on Wednesday, Apr 25th, 2018

With the Dave Matthews Band’s near constant production of new music the possibility of an album is always up in the air. However, album rumors solidified late 2017 when Dave Matthews mentioned to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that he and Carter Beauford had been recording in the studio. He said that he hoped to have “something” out at the beginning of the year. At this point, there was no official news of a 2018 tour or even if the band would get back together after their 2017 break. News of Dave and Carter in a studio gave the Dave Matthews Band community hope that exciting things were on the horizon. On January 15, 2018, the album became official when the band announced that there would indeed be an album released this year and that a free physical copy or download would come with each tour ticket purchased for the 2018 summer tour. A few weeks later Dave Matthews gave a brief interview with Radio One. Dave hinted at what we might hear on the album. He explained that his current songs are about friendship, love of family, love of the world and love of each other. Following that theme, Dave stated that he thought that Black and Blue Bird and Samurai Cop would appear on the upcoming album.

The band’s social media continued to plug the tour and free album but remained silent on any details. That silence was broken, not by the band, but by Stand Up producer Mark Batson. On March 6, 2018 Batson took to Instagram to share his excitement about the upcoming Dave Matthews Band album. Batson confirmed that he was one of several producers and continued to interact with fans by replying to comments and dropping tidbits of information. Batson repeatedly used the hashtag #WeBeginTheSame leading people to believe that may become the album title. Batson also shared that he had heard songs that featured Butch Taylor and LeRoi Moore, that there would be bonus discs, and that he had specifically heard Idea of You and a song called That Girl is You. Batson described the tracks and Dave’s playing as epic, emotional, passionate, and the best DMB this century! The majority of these Instagram posts have been deleted leading many to believe that Batson’s impromptu conversation with the fans was not only unsanctioned but did indeed contain accurate information about the album. Before the posts were deleted, AntsMarching forum user chadizzy1 was able to consolidate Batson’s remarks. Once again, silence followed these posts and the fans were left to wonder what was going on with the album and whether it would be completed before the summer tour began.

This time that silence was broken by official news. As of today, Dave Matthews Band’s ninth studio album finally has a name and a release date. And no, unfortunately it’s not called "What Album?" The album entitled “Come Tomorrow” has at least four different producers including John Alagia, Mark Batson, Rob Cavallo and Rob Evans and will be released on June 8, 2018. "Come Tomorrow" is currently available for pre-order which include bonus discs and options to include vinyl copies, DMBLive Vinyl releases and even a Limited Edition Cassette Tape.

While the contents of the bonus disc were listed in the Warehouse Store, the track list for the album remains a mystery. From what has been revealed by Dave Matthews, Mark Batson and other rumors swirling around the album, it sounds like the tracks will be mostly recognized and road tested material. With the tour and album date so close, so many questions remain. Will the band continue its record of debuting number one albums? When will the first single be released? Will there be a violinst on tour with the band? It’s all speculation at this point. Hop on over to the AntsMarching forums to join in the ponderings while we wait for the next bit of news to be released. In the meantime, everybody sing with me now, “Save tonight and fight the break of dawn, come tomorrow, tomorrow I’ll be gone…”
