Dave finally sets the record straight about karaoke

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Member News on 6/23/18 6:36pm

Has Dave Matthews ever performed karaoke? He is a singer, after all, but has he actually ever gone up on stage and sang along to an instrumental track and read lyrics off a screen? Well, Dave has now set the record straight on his karaoke crooning.

Dan Patrick, on his syndicated radio program, has twice told tales of Dave singing karaoke. Both incidents happened during the filming of the Adam Sandler movie, Just Go With It - which also featured Patrick and Dave himself. The stories are similar in structure, only flipping around the small details. At an afterparty during filming, Dan - who played a karaoke host in the movie - jokingly introduced Dave as, according to story A. John Mayer and story B. David Schwimmer. Dave then proceeded to sing: story A - Super Freak by Rick James or story B - Wild Thing by Ton Loc. So which story is true? According to Dave, neither.

In the interview portion of the Dave Matthews Band's June 2018 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Dave told Jimmy that he never sang karaoke in his life. He recounted an amusing story where he went to a karaoke bar with Ryan Gosling, and Gosling belted out a tune. Dave respectfully declined to sing up on stage himself - after all, he does it for a living.

Depending on how you feel about Gosling's fame, he might be the second most famous "Ryan" to be a DMB fan. You may recall that Ryan Reynolds is a pretty big DMB fan and even sports a Firedancer tattoo on his leg. Really! As for Dave, karaoke might not be in his future, but he can sure sing some Trap Music (Gucci Gang is straight fire, yo).

So if you want to catch Dave singing, make sure you pick up a ticket and stay out of the karaoke bars.

Check out Tripping Billies from Mexico

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases on 7/29/17 4:27pm

As Dave and Tim gear up for another show in in Mexico, the DMB Official YouTube page released a performance of Tripping Billies from the 2017 stay in Cancun.

Those shows were a blast, with rare performances of Rooftop, Dodo, and Raven all done in Dave and Tim style - just to name a few. There are still some packages available, so if you're free January 12-14, it's well worth the trip to brush up on your Espanol and head down to Mexico.

Live Trax 41 is great

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases on 5/17/17 3:55am

Fans got their ears on Live Trax 41, and they love it. If you haven't picked up a copy, you should consider it strongly. The show, 3.13.99, is a strong Dave and Tim performance featuring some unique performances, including Stay in a 6/8 time signature, and acoustic versions of The Last Stop and Halloween. If you're on the fence with this one, you might consider picking it up - those who've heard it love it. The release is one of the best in the Live Trax series. Seriously.

2016 Blenheim Painted Series Available for Pre-Order

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Brand on 12/1/16 3:23am

The Fantastic Painted series from Blenheim Vineyards is back at it again with the awesome wine! The 2016 release features 2015 grapes - that's why it's called the 2015 Painted Series so don't get confused - and is just as good as ever! The pre-sale is happening right now and runs until December 9.

As the good folks at Blenheim often do, they're including some nice merchandise to accompany your purchase; a hand-drawn handbill by Dave Matthews. 20 lucky pre-orders will receive an autographed handbill from Dave himself!

The wine breakdown this year is as follows:

2015 PAINTED WHITE: 58% Chardonnay, 21% Viognier, 12% Albarino, 9% Sauvignon Blanc.

2015 PAINTED RED: 44% Cabernet Franc, 31% Petit Verdot, 13% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The options for ordering are aplenty. If you're not a wine-drinker there are merchandise only options, and let me tell you their shirts are the most comfortable ever! There are also multiple labels, so you can choose an order package to get em all! Please note that due to the silly laws that govern alcohol shipping that it may not be available in your state; refer to the order page to see if you live in one of the sane ones that allows it.

Act quickly and grab this fantastic wine!

More Info on the Dave and Tim Mexico Excursion

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 9/13/16 9:24am

The 'year off' thing has begot its first show. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds are playing in Mexico for 3 days, starting February 23. This 3-day event will be similar to the Dave and Friends island excursion in 2006 (that ended up happening on the boat) so it's not unprecedented.

The concerts will occur in the 'tourist' section of Mexico; the greater Cancun area. If you've never been that way, rest assured that pretty much everyone speaks English there so you won't be at a disadvantage if you don't comprende espanol. The way the packages are set up you really don't even have to leave the all inclusive resort(s) except to see the performance(s). Should you choose to do some adventuring in Mexico, it's a short drive to Xel-ha (pronounced shell-ha) - a wonderful lagoon with true brackish water (the freshwater is cold and the sea water is warm) and oodles of fish to see on a snorkeling adventure. Tulum is another short drive; it is a Mayan village with a small temple to climb if you choose. A bit further is the famed Chichen Itza with its pyramid temple.

The prices aren't for the squeamish; but keep in mind you are getting an all inclusive resort and 3-days of Dave and Tim music. And it's February and unless you live in a warm place like sunny FLA you will be elbow-deep in snow; and Mexico sounds pretty swell when you're shoveling 6 inches of partly cloudy.

More Information Regarding the Sweet Briar College release

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases on 7/28/16 5:56am

The first CD release of a Dave Matthews solo performance is now available for Pre-Order. We wanted to provide a little more info for you about this special release. The show, Dave performing solo at Sweet Briar College on 4.14.96 is a special one. And the release is just as special as net proceeds go directly to the small college to help offset their operating cost. Basically you're helping to keep this small women's liberal arts college from closing; they were on the brink of shutting down but 2016 has seen a tremendous increase in applicants.

If you're on the fence about this one, there is a song sample available; Dancing Nancies - which sounds fantastic. The set features a couple of gems in there too; Angel From Montgomery, #36, and Blue Water Baboon Farm stand out as the rarities, plus some songs you just don't ever hear from Dave solo; Jimi, Two Step, Seek Up, So Much To Say. We're not telling you that you have to buy it, we're just saying it's a special show and the money goes to a good cause. The choice is yours.

Blenheim Vineyards Painted Series Vol 1

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Random Appearances on 7/23/14 5:29pm

Dave's fantastic winery, Blenheim Vineyards, is once again running a Dave and Tim music giveaway. As they've done in the past, if you order $50 worth of wine, they'll throw in the limited edition Painted Edition Vol. 1 EP! This year's tracks are Two Step from 3.14.99, Save Me from 7.15.12, and Old Dirt Hill from 7.15.12. The '12 songs are from a nifty little show from upstate New York, and the Two Step is from a beloved 1999 performance in San Rafael, CA.

The Painted Series EP is nice, but really the wine is worth every penny. If you've missed our heaping praise in the past, here's the tl;dnr version: Wine is fantastic. Buy it. Follow either link to order some wine shipped to your door (if you don't live in one of those freak states that doesn't allow wine shipped out of state), or stop by the winery and pick up some! If you're going to the Bristow, VA show Saturday, it's only a bit over an hour away right down 29. Tell em Ants sent ya!

OMG! Can't believe it! The Last Stop!

(that means the latest DMBLive release is 3.3.99, from the 1999 Dave and Tim tour. If I Had A Boat, Wild Horses, Halloween, I'll Back You Up, and Stay (in that crazy 6/8 time) are among the notables. I think Last Stop was played too, not too sure... have to double check on that.)

Dave Joins Up with a New Band

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Side Projects on 12/16/13 7:16am

Remember a while back when we told you Dave was in the studio. We now know what that was; a new side project.

Dave will join with Jakob Dylan, Brady Blade (Of the Dave and Friends band), and brothers Charlie and Will Sexton to form The Nauts. Matthews and Dylan wrote songs for the group, and there will be a release coming "soon".

Before you start to panic, and #StoopstoDMB starts trending, just relax. No one even knows if there will be a Dave and Friends type tour out of this, or if this is just a straight studio project. The Dave Matthews Band is already set for tours in 2014; Australia is undoubtedly a go and the US summer tour is shaping up according to rumors, so relax. More info regarding The Nauts should be available in January.

DMB Supports Progeria Research

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Charity on 10/16/13 1:14pm

Progeria is a disease you probably don't know by name, but you know it by sight. You know those little kids that age rapidly and turn very old at very young ages? That's Progeria. Dave Matthews and the rest of DMB are asking for your help in facilitating a cure.

Check out Dave and his friend Sam in this video that tells about the disease a bit. They're asking for your donations, so if you have a few bucks laying around, or maybe skip a 12-pack this weekend and you can donate $10 by texting PROGERIA to 80888 we can maybe have this disease wiped out one day.

A documentary on Sam will air on HBO October 21. There's more info about about the doc, which was a Sundance Official Selection if you're into that stuff.

UPDATE: Sadly, Sam passed away January 10. He was 17. He was a great DMB fan, and a great great human being. Rest in peace.

Dave and Tim in New Orleans in 2014

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 9/23/13 1:43pm

The first American dates are announced, but in a twist of sorts it's a Dave and Tim show. The Official Site announced Dave and Tim are playing January 15 & 16 in New Orleans. I'm contractually obligated to say Katrina because I mentioned New Orleans. The shows are at the Saenger Theatre, which re-opened in 2013 after an almost 8 year absence (don't need to say why, already covered it).

Tickets go on sale via The Warehouse September 24. If you're not a member of the Warehouse, well, you are missing out, but I'm tired of telling you this. Just get your tickets from Ticketmaster or from some guy with a sign that says "I need tickets" when clearly he means "I am selling tickets at a marked up price so I can buy booze".

Fan Gives Dave A Ride to Hershey

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Random Appearances on 7/15/13 10:38am

Next time you're on the way to a Dave Matthews Band show and see a guy that looks like Dave on the side of the road, it's Dave on the side of the road. According to CNN, DMB fan Emily Kraus pulled over to help a bicyclist with a flat who looked a lot like Dave. And it was Dave.

Dave mentioned the incident during the Hershey, PA show, saying "I did not have a cell phone on the bicycle. So I thought, 'Shit." Kraus and her boyfriend - who was not mentioned by name in any story on-line about it because she like totally met Dave! - threw Dave's bike in the car (or on the car, whatever) and gave Dave Matthews a ride to a Dave Matthews Band show.

Dave rewarded them with "front row seats" according to the story (sounds like Pit to us) and a couple of autographs and dinner.

Dave and Tim Sampler Available from Blenheim

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases on 7/2/13 12:07pm

Dave's good winery, Blenheim is offering up a Dave and Tim sampler with purchases this summer. And you've got a chance to get one signed by Dave himself. With a $50 purchase of their delicious wines, you will get a copy of The Boots; a sampler from the Dave and Tim 2011 show in Charlottesville. The featured songs are Bartender, Sweet, and Lying In The Hands of God. The Hands of God is especially good, but really, all 3 tracks are great. And the wine is fabulous as well, and worth it without even getting the CD. Head on over to the Blenheim Store , grab yourself some wine (I recommend the 2012 Chardonnay) and pop the top (really unscrew it..) and listen to some Dave and Tim!

Farm Aid at SPAC and a free track from Dreaming Tree Wine

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 6/17/13 6:13pm

Dave will be performing at Farm Aid at a familiar place. This years Farm Aid takes place at SPAC on September 21, and at the very least Dave will be there (no word on the Matthews Band or & Tim appearing after the D-word) according to The Official Site. If you're in the greater Upstate New York area check it out. Tickets will be available via The Warehouse soon.

The Dreaming Tree wine is offering up a free download of Everyday - probably in conjunction with their new wine called Everyday (if not, it'd be kinda spooky, right?). You can head over to their Facebook page and grab yourself a copy of the song (from 3.22.03 at Radio City Music Hall). And if you're over 21 or have a wicked fake ID, try their wines. Just kidding about the fake ID, you can wait... really, it's not worth the hassle of getting arrested.

Dave Going to the UK in the Fall?

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 4/15/13 9:56am

A press release promoting the European release of Away From The World has an interesting quote attached to it. "Dave will be in the UK late Autumn to play acoustic shows."

That certainly makes it sound like Dave Matthews will be in the UK in late Autumn, most likely to play acoustic shows (cwutididther?). Like everything else attached to press releases, we tend to tread lightly with them, and caution you to not book your flight on Virgin just yet to hop the pond. But does make sense given the release of AFTW in Europe.

Also tied to the release, according to the presser, is that the Live Trax Vol. 1 vinyl is part of a "series". Series generally speaking are more than one, so perhaps there will be more vinyl (the plural of vinyl is vinyl, I'm told) released? There is no doubt that the vinyl releases are more popular than at any time in the modern CD era, and fans are already plotting and stalking record stores for the impending LT1 release. So keep your eyes pealed for that too.

What Are We To Make of Dave in Studio?

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Side Projects on 2/7/13 10:28am

It didn't take long for the story that popped up on our message boards to turn into a full-fledged event. Of some sorts at least.

For those of you that don't check the boards 6-7 times daily, shame on you. That is truly unacceptable. But since I'm a swell fellow, here's a recap:

A fan (as mentioned above) runs into Dave in Shreveport, LA.

Twitter backs the story up.

When asked by a fan if he was working on a solo album, Dave smiled.

The studio where all this is going down is Blade Studios, named for owner and Dave and Friends drummer Brady Blade.

An alleged conversation has Dave saying this is similar to Dave and Friends.

Photos seem to back up the story of at the very least meeting Dave.

This would be a good time to get some reax from Drama Prairie Dog

I know... flight booked. hotel reserved. in line to get railed. But really... what does it mean? One of the most commonly repeated non-bashing phrases on the message boards is "Dave owes the record label one more solo record." Of course, there's no track record of this appearing in public, but since it's on the interwebz, it must be real. We have no idea if Dave is doing a solo record or not, and we don't know if Dave's idea of "another Dave and Friends project" is what we all think it is, or it's Dave singing on a few Jakob Dylan songs.

We do know that Dave is in Shreveport, LA at a recording studio. What will become of that project exactly is still to be determined.

Live Trax 23 And 24 Now Available!

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases on 11/9/12 8:10pm

The Warehouse announced the latest in the Live Trax series, and it's a double first. This is the first time a Live Trax show has been a Dave and Tim show, and additionally there is actually 2 releases!

Live Trax 23 is 2.19.96 in Durham, New Hampshire. If you're new to the planet, this show is considered one of the best Dave and Tim shows ever; featuring Hold Me Down and early Don't Drink The Water known as Weight Of The World (called Leave Me Praying on the release, but it doesn't matter, because it's one of the best versions of the song ever), and What Will Become Of Me. Also are the cover songs Angel From Montgomery. Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago, and Tangerine of note.

Live Trax 24 is 2.8.97 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. You'll hear a slightly different What Will Become Of Me from the other release, Dream I Killed God, Little Thing and an early version of Captain known then as Crazy (but called Captain on the release). The rarely played Let You Down is also on Live Trax 24, making both releases a collectors dream! Unless you're a bitter hater, than just take to the boards and complain with the rest of em. You know the drill by now.

Pre-Order begins now. We're not going to tell you to buy this, but it just doesn't get any better than this for those fans looking for multi-track sound board recordings of the rarest stuff out there.

Dave Featured on John Denver Tribute Album

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Side Projects on 10/23/12 7:29am

In case you were wondering what spurred Dave to cover John Denver's Take Me To Tomorrow during a few Dave and Tim shows, it's pretty apparent now. The John Denver official site announced that Dave is among more than 15 artists selected to appear on an all-star tribute to the late Singer/Songwriter. The release is slated for February 2013.

Denver died in 1997 in a plane crash (you may or may not recall). He is also recalled either as a great songwriter or an extremely underrated songwriter, depending on whom you ask. Dave has only covered Take Me To Tomorrow from the Denver library of songs, but he has teased Sunshine On My Shoulders famously during the 1995 Red Rocks show.

DMBrasil Talks with Dave

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Random Appearances on 8/30/12 9:14am

The great Rodrigo Simas, founder of DMBrasil and long-time friend of Dave Matthews, had an opportunity to chat with Dave recently. Those conversations will now be heard by you as well, according to The Official Site Dave and Rodrigo kicked it old-school (or velha escola) in a 14-part series which will be featured on the DMB You Tube Channel.

As we said above, Dave and Rodrigo are friends, and Dave usually opens up pretty well to Rodrigo, mainly because Rodrigo is the nicest guy in the entire world (or at least in the top 4). We highly recommend you check em out, and if you're at the Gorge, and see Rodrigo, say hi to him!

Phillip Phillips Sings A DMB Song on Idol

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in TV Appearances on 4/25/12 10:12pm

American Idol contestant (and registered member of Antsmarching.org) Phillip Phillips sang a Dave Matthews Band song on the April 25 edition of American Idol. In what can safely be described as a shocker, Phillips chose The Stone as his DMB song. This marks the first time an American Idol contestant performed a DMB song.

The judges were kind of mixed on the performance. Steven Tyler acted as if he had never heard the words "Dave Matthews Band" in that order in a sentence, Jennifer Lopez called it "Too artsy" (you can insert your own joke here), but Randy Jackson did praise it.

You can vote on-line for Phillips as well. But time is limited, so if you're reading this at 3am, it's probably too late.

If you're new to the DMB thanks to P-squared (as the cool kids call him), and you'd like to hear the DMB perform The Stone, head on over to DMBLive, they have a few nice live versions to choose from (check under the Live Trax tab).

President Obama Opens for Dave Matthews

Posted by Zack Rippy in Album News on 4/25/12 3:33am

President Barack Obama made his first appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" last night to warm up the crowd for the evening's main event - Dave Matthews' debut performance of "Mercy" from the band's forthcoming album. Dave performed the song with accompaniment from The Roots' Captain Kirk.

The acoustic performance offered the first real glimpse at anything from the as-yet untitled album, though the final product will likely sound quite different with the full DMB treatment. Producer Steve Lillywhite has stated on Twitter that "...it's not just acoustic on the album," and "it is not quiet on the album!" In case you missed the show, you can watch it here and then be sure to let us know what you think on the forum.

Dave to Debut New Song on Fallon

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in TV Appearances on 4/23/12 9:19pm

It seems that it's likely that we will hear a new song from Dave Matthews prior to the 2012 tour. According to a tweet from Jimmy Fallon, Dave will perform a "new song" on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon on April 24.

Before you blow a gasket (figuratively), let's put in to perspective what "new" means. New to Jimmy Fallon could be Sweet to us. Then again, it could be something totally new. But when you see Fallon say "beautiful song", it's not too much of a stretch to think Sweet. Then again, maybe it's not. Is that a contradictory enough paragraph? Good.

Check your local listings to find out what time Fallon is on in your area.

Dave Appearing on Jimmy Fallon

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in TV Appearances on 4/20/12 9:44am

Dave Matthews, along with President Barack Obama, will both be appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in a special broadcast. Time Magazine reports the President will make is premiere appearance on the talk show April 24, with Dave appearing as the musical guest. Fallon will tape his program from the University of North Carolina that evening.

In case you missed it in our satirical story about the idiot Yahoo writer, Dave will be performing in Seattle for a fundraiser for the President's reelection campaign, according to The Seattle Times, but it appears (as of now) that the Fallon appearance is not tied into a fund-raising performance.

But more importantly, what will Dave be playing? Let's see, there aren't any new songs out there, unless.. you don't think... maybe the new single? OMG!!! Let the speculation commence!

Antsmarching.org Now Also Concentrates on Phillip Phillips

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Site News on 4/1/12 7:45am

McDonald's CEO Ray Croc once said, "I didn't know what we would be selling in the year 2000 but whatever it was we would be selling the most of it." We at antsmarching.org are following his advice and shifting the focus of the site to include other artists, most notably Phillip Phillips!

The popularity of the TV show American Idol is unmistakable, and given the obvious correlations between Dave and Phil (both have 2 first names, both make funny faces when they sing, both do that weird leg twitch), it's a natural to include him in our scope.

Head on over to the message boards, and talk up everyone's new favorite artist Phillip Phillips! And please bear with us while we make some minor adjustments to the layout of the site to include PP!

UPDATE: In case you didn't figure it out, yes, this was an April Fools joke. And quite a successful one at that considering the number of people thrown by it. Special thanks to Phillip Phillips for being a good sport and playing along, and extra special thanks for those of you that got utterly rattled. You know who you are.

Phillip Phillips Made the Top 10

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Random Appearances on 3/2/12 7:13am

Fellow Ant and that guy who sounds a lot like Dave Matthews, Phillip Phillips, made it into the top 10 on American Idol! Nice job, Phil!

And in case you're wondering what Dave Matthews Band song Phillip will sing, the answer is "none". According to a list that has leaked onto the internet, no DMB songs are on the list of cleared songs for him to play.

So, goodly people of Antsmarching, the ball is in your court; Phillip sings next week, keep an eye out for the number to call and facilitate him toward a victory if you so choose.

If you were too busy (or cool) to watch American Idol on February 28, here's fellow Ant Phillip Phillips performance of In The Air Tonight. There are 25 contestants, which will be whittled down to 13. So if you didn't vote, you're a bitter hipster. Or you just didn't know it was on last night (which is OK, I guess). Best of luck to Phillip!

Dave and Tim on Jack Johnson Kokua Festival Best Of Album

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases on 2/27/12 7:27am

Dave Matthews And Tim Reynolds will have a portion of their 2008 performance in Hawai'i officially released. The duo performed with Kokua Festival host Jack Johnson on Jimmy Buffett's A Pirate Looks At 40, and that is part of a Best Of release benefiting the Kokua Festival charities (and ignore the typo on "Matthews" in the write up). Also featured are Willie Nelson, Eddie Vedder, and Jake Shimabukuro - and if you don't know who he is, you should look him up, he's an awesome ukulele player. The album is available April 17.

A few other news and notes, The Warehouse ticketing window closes February 27 at 10 am, which may have already passed depending on when you're reading this. The public sale is March 9.

Phillip Phillips Makes the Top 24 on American Idol

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Site News on 2/24/12 7:28am

Phillip Phillips, the young man who clearly has a liking for Dave Matthews and the DMB, has made it into the top 24 of American Idol. And while Judge Jennifer Lopez may still be thinking he's pretty original, the national media are on to him a bit. Regardless, the kid is still pretty talented, and he's a member of antsmarching.org, so we're pulling for him.

But in the most telling sign of making it, he's managed to draw the ire (jealousy?) of the message board folks here! And you truly haven't made it anywhere until you get at least 2 threads critiquing you (and he has not one but two!) Next week is the first chance you, the American (and beyond) public have a chance to vote. We'd never tell you who to vote for, but the guy is a member of this website, and really, you have unlimited phone calls most likely, so just keep that in mind.

American Idol Auditioneer Kinda Looks Like Dave Matthews

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Random Appearances on 1/19/12 10:06am

If you missed American Idol last night, there was a guy with a unique name who reminded a lot of people of a certain performer in the Dave Matthews Band.

Here is Phillip Phillips (yep, that's his name) audition: Judge for yourself here. The footwork - which shows that clearly Jennifer Lopez has never heard of Dave Matthews - certainly had some "Dave-like" moments. And his guitar playing did look like Dave. Not surprisingly, Phillips lists Dave Matthews as an influence according to an Idol gossip site

It is pretty clear that he sounded a lot better with a guitar than he did sans 6-string. We'll see if he can survive the Hollywood week of the show.

And a special note to Phillip, since I know you're out there (IP lookups FTW!), shoot me an email and I'll send you an Ants shirt you can wear during the Hollywood Week :)

Dave And Tim This Weekend

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 11/18/11 9:25am

In case you forgot, Dave and Tim are playing in New York and Connecticut on the 18th and 19th, which quite possibly could be today if you're reading this in a timely fashion. The first show is the 18th in New York, and the 19th is in Connecticut (and don't forget about the pre-party!).

If you've never been to a Dave and Tim show, it's quite the chill atmosphere, or at least it tries to be. Far be it for me to tell you how to act in public, but basically you don't stand for the entire show, and since Dave has stories wound into the set list, so don't be "that guy" and scream "Play a song!" while Dave is telling a funny fable. Also, there are these little sheets of paper called "set lists" that the two come up with prior to a show, so you really don't need to scream "#41" between each song, they pretty much know what they're going to play. Other than that, have fun!

For Saturday, If you can't make it over to the Pre-Party at Westbrook Lobster, at the Oakdale, in the Xfinity Lounge, there is a pre-show buffett from 5:30-7. They'll have wings, sliders, a potato bar, etc. That cost is $30 and you can pick up advanced tickets here. The lounge is hosting an after-party as well (with beer specials!), so if you plan it right, you can hit both, or all 3 festivals, and the Dave and Tim show.

Connecticut Pre-Party and Dave and Tim Tix giveaway

I realize that 90% of Connecticut can't read this now unless you have your phone charged, but once you get power back, you'll at least have some good news. The good people of Westbrook Lobster are throwing a pre-party prior (duh) to the Dave and Tim show at the Oakdale Theatre. You can read up on it here, but the stuff you need to know up front is no cover, DMB and D+T music, and 21 and over only. Sorry kids :(

If you don't have tickets yet for the Connecticut show, and power is back on by then, there's still hope! The Oakdale Theatre is giving away a pair of tickets via their Facebook page. Do that Facebook thing and enter to win!

Dave and Tim Shows set for November

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 10/18/11 10:08am

The shows confirmed by numerous sources have finally received a confirmation officially. The Warehouse has two shows listed so far for Dave and Tim, November 18 at the United Palace Theatre in New York, and the following day in Connecticut at Toyota Presents Oakdale (aka the Oakdale Theater) in Wallingford, CT. The shows are not listed in the order page (yet), but in the "show detail" area. As in the recent past with Dave and Tim shows, justgive.org is the facilitating arm for charitable contributions for all proceeds for tickets. So before you start complaining about prices, it's all for charity. So relax.

Expect some more dates to be added (but don't get your hopes up, people of the south), and this isn't a true official announcement from The Warehouse, but more of a soft-notice. So be on the lookout for the big giant announcement from the official site "soon'.

UPDATE: Soon is now. You can officially request tickets for the first two shows now at The Warehouse.

TR3 Facebook Announces Dave & Tim Tour

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 9/16/11 11:36am

The Facebook page for Tim Reynolds other band, TR3 announced, it rather confirmed, there will indeed be a Dave & Tim tour in 2011. Rumblings have been around (if you were listening) that a South America Dave and Tim tour would occur, but speculation was the tour had gone the way of the dodo. Instead, our friends in Brazil are getting Dodo (get it?). That is, of course, if the wording of the Facebook post is insinuating that Dave & Tim and South America are two in the same.

The original rumors put the South America tour in October, but there is no indication of when this real tour will occur, or where for that matter. The distinguished DMB rumor monger will point out that DMB and east coast shows have been rumored too. And let's not short change the Vegas rumors too. So, what does it mean? It means that we will see more fake dates than Jan Brady had with George Glass between now and an official announcement.

UPDATE: TR3 amended their Facebook announcement to leave out the "Dave" part and throw in some "might's". Hope no one got called to the principal's office on that one!

Dave Playing Bridge School

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 9/6/11 5:53pm

Dave Matthews is once again performing at Neil Young's pet charity. The Bridge School announced their 2011 lineup (if their page is working), and Dave is scheduled at the event. Dave has performed solo and with Tim in the past (judging by 2011, this will probably end up being Dave and Tim), and the full Dave Matthews Band has also performed - including a memorable webacast in 2000 that featured the first cover of Cortez The Killer.

The event is scheduled for October 22 and 23, and Dave is slated for both nights. In addition to Young, that nutty Eddie Vedder will also perform both nights, as will Aracde Fire. Tony Bennett (!!!) is slated for Sunday only, and Beck gets a Saturday slot. Tony Bennett! Maybe Tony and Dave croon on Crush? One can dream...

What Does This Picture Have to do with Wine?

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Brand on 8/12/11 3:45pm

When you're the lead singer of a band named after yourself, you just can't put random things on facebook and not think people will figure out what it means.

On August 11, the Dave Matthews Band facebook page put up the picture you see over there. That's all it took for the Ants investigation team (also known as a bunch of people on the message board) to tie it in to wine.

To easy you through the back-story, there have been rumors floating about that Dave is lending his name or a song name to a new wine (outside of his own Blenheim Vineyards wines - which are awesome btw). Full disclosure I received an email a few months ago tipping me off of the new label. That brings us up to the present. An Ant posted that this rumored wine is coming to fruition, and it will be called "Dreaming Tree". A winery called "Constellation Wines" in Canandaigua, NY holds that trademark. Constellation Brands is the parent company of Robert Mondavi wines - you know, the same Bobby M where Dave performed in 2009. And if Constellation sounds familiar, and I'm not talking stars, that's because Dave and Tim performed at in 2010 in... you guessed it, Canandaigua. Interesting...

What does it mean? Well, who knows. But if you think you can just put up some picture on your facebook, Mr. Matthews, without having people jump to conclusions, you, good sir, are mistaken.

UPDATE: A few folks that have tried the wine - which is still unofficial -say it will unofficially be available in late September/early October. Follow that?

UPDATE #2: Well well well... look who has a website up. It's Dreaming Tree Wine. Scroll to the bottom and you'll see a note about tastings at The Gorge during the DMB Caravan stop.

Dave And Tim Sets Added to Governor's and Gorge - Live Trax 20 For Sale

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 8/11/11 10:12pm

Fans were wondering why there were not going to be Dave And Tim sets at the final two Dave Matthews Band Caravan stops. Wonder no more. The official site announced the duo will perform on the Sunday of each stop; that's August 28 and September 4 at Governors Island and The Gorge if you don't feel like looking it up.

Additionally, if you're one of the poor shleps who still hasn't joined The Warehouse, first allow me to mock you yet again. Mock Mock Mock. But fret not, the good people of The Warehouse have made Live Trax 20 available. If you've forgotten, that is a multi-track recording from 1993 of the band performing at the infamous Wetlands Preserve in New York. It's the earliest known multi-track recording of the band. You can pick it up at the DMBLive store.

Dave And Tim To Play Charlottesville

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 7/28/11 10:42am

The Official Site announced that Dave and Tim will perform in Charlottesville August 20. The special show ticket price will be directed to justgive.org, which in turn donates those funds entirely to the charity that you choose. If this sounds familiar, one of the Dave and Tim shows from 2010 functioned in the same way. Which explains the lofty price for tickets ($135 for lower bowl), it is all for charity. Warren Haynes is playing right down the road at the Jefferson Theater after the show, so fans can attend both. Tickets go on sale August 5, and members of The Warehouse can order July 29.

Dave Gets Poetic for Trees

Dave has long been an environmentalist and a self-proclaimed "tree hugger", and he's now put pen to paper in support of protecting wilderness. Dave's poem entitled "Forest" is in support of the controversial ANWR region of Alaska.

Rather than spark a political debate, regardless of which side of the fence you land upon, check out the poem and remember, having a lot of trees is never a bad thing.

A Bunch of Tour Dates that Are NOT DMB

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 3/1/11 6:10pm

I know, everyone is waiting for the Dave Matthews Band tour news, but there is plenty of other happenings with band members to keep you satisfied in the mean time.

Dave Matthews will be appearing with Blue Man Group April 13 at Ashton Street Theater in New York. You may recall that Dave sang with the boys in blue on Sing Along (there's a link to the song in the above link). The tickets ain't cheap, but it's a fund raiser for the Blue School.

Stefan Lessard has formed yet another band, Secret Stash. They are performing two shows in Vermont; March 12 at Stratton Mountain Resort in Stratton (fittingly enough). Tickets are $40 for that one, but food and drinks are included in the donation price (benefiting the Chill Foundation). March 13 they play at the famous Pickle Barrel Nightclub in Killington. Tickets are $35 for that one. Secret Stash is Stefan, along with Eric Fawcett from Spy Mob and N*E*R*D; Brett Scallions from FUEL and Warren DeMartini from RATT. And "special guests" are promised, so those shows should be awesome.

Jeff Coffin is touring with his fantastic Mu'tet jazz ensemble. The tour begins March 1 (which may be today if you're reading this now) in Washington, D.C., and runs through April 30 at the University of Northern Colorado. Coffin has links to his performances on his official site (navigate from the above link) and check him out if he's in your area!

Tim Reynolds is also touring now. And don't forget, good people of Florida, TR3 is at The Plaza March 10. And all of your favorite Central Florida Ants will be there (I will additionally be there). And we'll give away some Ants swag to those that come up and say 'hi'. So make sure you catch TR3 regardless of where you are, because they put on an incredible live show, but especially don't miss the March 10 show at The Plaza! The TR3 tour runs until June 10 in Newport News, VA.

Dave Talks About His Upcoming Movie

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Side Projects on 2/1/11 10:21am

And by "talk", we mean reveal the plot of a movie that Jeff Healey saw coming (and he's dead to boot). Nonetheless, Dave does speak about his newest movie, Just Go With It, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and also Dave, Nicole Kidman, and most importantly, Brooklyn Decker. Decker's husband Andy Roddick has a cameo, as does Dan Patrick, the name-dropping morning sports show host late of ESPN.

Dave filmed the movie in early 2010 in Hawaii, prior to the European tour. The movie is "inspired by" (not a direct remake) the 1969 movie Cactus Flower; Goldie Hawn won the Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her portrayal of the Brooklyn Decker character in this one. The movie opens nationwide on February 11.

Gossip Site Update, and DMB By The Numbers

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Brand on 1/5/11 6:37am

It didn't take very long for emails to come in discussing "Dave-as-homeless-person" sightings. Perhaps the most interesting is from 2002, when a rumor traveled through Seattle that Dave was sitting outside Pike Place Market and playing. This was prior to anyone knowing that the Matthews Clan had moved to the Seattle area, there seems to be an element of truth to the story.

There are other stories of Dave actually performing on the street that we can confirm. In 2002 and 2006, Dave did play in London randomly. In 2006, he was spotted by some fans. So we do know that Dave has "recently" performed on the street.
|
But none of this makes the blind-item true. And no one has stepped up saying they've seen him in 2010. In fact, more people have said it isn't true than it is. Even Stefan doubted it, via his twitter, saying, "Not sure, it's sounds a bit tough to do with the schedule this year! Plus, I might have noticed the extra personal AKA film crew". So we're leaning "non" on this supposed true gossip item.

The Slate has come up with a by-the-numbers listing of the success of Dave Matthews Band and their tours. It's an interesting read, however we think that some of their numbers - including The Warehouse membership, are understated.

Is A Gossip Site Blind Item really about Dave?

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Member News on 1/3/11 6:52pm

More than a few people have emailed us asking if a blind item at Crazy Days and Nights is really about Dave? If you're not motivated enough to click on the link, in short, the item claims that a "musician is working on a secret documentary", and playing as a street performer in disguise in certain cities- playing DMB music - and not being noticed. So... is it Dave?

We don't know.

But, we can't be that succinct, we've got a rep to protect. Is it possible that Dave is donning a disguise and performing randomly at locations? Well, sure, anything is possible. It's possible #36 will come back and Kit Kat Jam will get in regular rotation. But has anything like this happened before? As far as we know, yes.

Dave was a street performer, in 1989 in Amsterdam. Dave even played All Along The Watchtower for a Dutch television program at the same spot he performed 9 years earlier.

There are also anecdotal stories of Dave playing in Richmond in 1992, especially around the University of Richmond, just sitting under a tree with his guitar. Another story has Dave creating Christmas Song while sitting in a hallway, just working the song out for anyone to hear as they passed by. Those stories can't be confirmed completely, but it's certainly not out of character for Dave to try that.

As for the documentary aspect to the item... well... have we said "we don't know" yet? Again, Dave has a movie production company, and a lot of friends who are in the business, so it's not out of the ordinary him to be involved in a movie-type process.

There's probably an easy way to solve this. Anyone hear a street performer playing some DMB music this summer that sounded uncannily like Dave?

Blenheim Vineyards Painted Wines Available On-Line

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Brand on 12/9/10 6:17am

Blenheim Vineyards has updated their website just in time for the Holiday season. The Painted Red and Painted White, both with labels designed by co-owner Dave Matthews, are available for order! Their usual array of wines are also available through their store, which includes their delicious chardonnay, and subtly spicy syrah. But the stars of the last grape season are the new "painted wines". As anyone can attest that made it out to Blenheim during the 2010 Charlottesville shows, the new Painted wines are rather tasty. The Red is especially silky smooth. Rather than us wax poetically about the wines, lets go with a more professional sounding review:

A complex bouquet of honey, nutmeg, cantaloupe and kiwi tantalizes the nose while silky flavors of crème brûlée, honeydew and cardamom caress the palate. 75% Viognier, 14% Rousanne, 11% Marsanne. Aged in French, American & Hungarian oak (70% for 2 months; 30% for 7 months). 310 cases produced.

PAINTED RED 2009 Fresh scents of violet, blueberry, and cinnamon lead to lush flavors of blackberry jam, anise with soft tannins on the finish. 41% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot. 64% aged in French oak for 10 - 12 months.

It's worth noting that all three collectors edition labels for the Painted Red 2009 are available via the on-line store. There are also t-shirts (including the Painted Red special edition shirt) and wine glasses available via the store link, so give that special someone over the age of 21 and in a state that allows shipping the gift of a great tasting wine.

Dave and Tim Winter 'tour' Begins

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 12/6/10 5:54pm

The Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds tour that technically speaking isn't a tour begins in Seattle. The first two of the 'tour' are the special charity shows, where the $135 ticket is exchanged for a voucher to donate $150 to a charity of your choice through justgive.org. Of course, on paper, December 7th will be the last time for the good people of the greater Seattle people to see Dave for a year.

Or so... on November 30, Dave told the Seattle Weekly that the idea of playing The Gorge in 2011 isn't exactly without a doubt not going to happen. And we don't need to rehash the rumors so soon or define exactly what "tour" means or doesn't mean now, after all, we've got a full year of speculation to build up hype.

The Dave and Tim 'tour' wraps up December 11 in Las Vegas.

UPDATE: If some of you are having difficulty figuring out how to donate, use this link and follow the instructions.

Dave and Tim Add 2 December Shows for Charity

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 10/22/10 6:14am

This is quite a unique opportunity, and with all the proceeds going to charity (and then some), even the mainstream press has picked up the story. The The Wall Street Journal even mentioned it, and has a quote from Dave in their accompanying story.

Tickets are available now via The Warehouse, with the window closing November 1. The public sale begins November 6.

Dave At Cavallo's House, And Other Happenings

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Member News on 7/13/10 9:17pm

Here's a few items along the way that you may have missed in the past week or so. Emphasis on the so.

In case you missed Dave's thoughts on why he performed at Music Saves Mountains, here's an item on it from tonic.com, which also includes a YouTube clip interview from Dave.

Dave is performing another charity event (without the MB this time). On August 22, Dave will be performing at Producer Rob Cavallo's home as part of the Backyard BBQ Concert. The charity is sponsoring the Tuition Assistance Fund at Heschel West Day School, and the performance is literally at the home of Rob and Kim Cavallo. It's a fundraiser, so it ain't cheap, but like I just said 10 words ago, "fundraiser". The link explains how the charity will work.

And in the world of blogs, New York Times Magazine writer Benoit Denizet-Lewis told of his love of Dave Matthews Band from a different perspective of sorts; a gay one. Have a read at his take here.

Dave To Perform Charity Show in Connecticut

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 6/19/10 10:49am

Dave Matthews will perform at a charity event in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the US. According to The Greenwich Time Dave will perform at the exclusive Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, CT on June 26.

The $1000-a-ticket performance will benefit the China Care Foundation, which provides provide medical care among other things to Chinese orphans. So if you want to pony up the cash, have at it. However, according to the Greenwich Time, the goodly police of Greenwich are expecting the DMB fan to attend the event, regardless of a ticket or not. "We're going to have in excess of 40 or 50 officers down there on land. That doesn't include officers who will be on the boat monitoring boat traffic to keep trespassers from invading the beaches and the surrounding residences down there." Lt. Richard Cochran, a Greenwich police spokesman, said. So I guess the fans rep precedes them. Or something like that. You'll also find some snappy quotes in the article from yours truly to try and scare the beejeebers of of the Greenwich police (OMG! Teh DaVe Fanz r comin!)

The full-band tour continues after that performance with a show in Camden June 30.

  • UPDATE:
  • The latest news has 50 police officers assigned to detail security for the event (that means keep out the riff-raff), more than President George Bush's 2004 visit, or VP Joe Biden's 2008 stop in the area. Also, the show is seemingly Full-Band (as rumors have stated), and the price is $3000 a head.

Dave Track on Herbie Hancock album Announced - More Wrigley News

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Album News on 4/4/10 3:19pm

You probably recall Dave's voice being, um, scratchy, for the 2009 San Francisco shows (only to be saved by The Black Eyed Peas... sort of). The reason for his voice not being tip-top was pointed at a recording session with Herbie Hancock (as we mentioned previously) . The fruits of the "voice incident" are now clear; Dave's appearance, along with Marcus Miller and Carter Beauford, will be featured on the latest Herbie Hancock album, according to the Grammy Winner's official site (music starts playing at the site, so buyer beware).

It was previously reported and rumored that the song performed was Falling Off The Roof, a song that has a 1-time DMB performance, back in 2007. If that is indeed the song featured on the Hancock album, it's been renamed. The track featured is named Jackpot. Of course this could be a case like Dave and Carter's appearance on Carlos Santana's Supernatural album, where two songs were recorded but only one made the cut. We'll find out June 21, the release date of the Hancock album.

Surely you've all noticed the increased rumors of a Dave Matthews Band and Wrigley Field union. Seat scalper websites are listing a DMB appearance at Wrigley Field September 17 & 18. But before you run out and plan to relive the 106 mile drive to Chicago from The Blues Brothers, wait and make sure it's "really" on - that's code for an announcement from the The Warehouse.

Dave And Tim Get A Vinyl Release

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases on 3/11/10 2:22pm

Dave Matthews And Tim Reynolds are contributing a release to Record Store Day. The release will feature Squirm and Lying In The Hands Of God, according to Radio Active Records, and will be a 7" Vinyl. That's a little record for those not in the know. Both songs were recorded live from the 2009 Dave and Tim Las Vegas shows. The vinyl goes on sale at specific locations (see below) April 17 and should be priced around $3.49 (or so).

Record Store Day is a celebration of independently owned record stores. That means non-chain. To find a local independently owned record store near you, use the Record Store Day search. Please note that not every store listed necessarily will have every release listed above, so contact the store you wish to visit to make sure they have the said vinyl(s) you want to buy. Especially the Dave and Tim one, which will certainly be a collectors item quite quickly.

Dave Dives Back Into Acting; Soko News

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Side Projects on 2/27/10 9:16am

Dave Matthews is appearing on the big screen again. According to a few internet items, Dave will act along with Adam Sandler, and more importantly Brooklyn Decker, in a film called Just Go With It. Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Anniston are also in it. But Brooklyn Decker is too, and that's worth mentioning twice.

Matthews has acted in a few Sandler films, and his last foray into thespianism was Lake City, for which Matthews received praise for his acting chops. Filming for "Just Go With It" is going on now, so obviously Matthews will be doing his part(s) between the Europe tour and the North American tour.

You may recall that Dave, Tim, and Roi are all appearing on the new Sokoband album. According to a tweet from the band, the recordings are quite old. The tweet specifically mentions that Roi's recording is from when he was just 27 years old. That'd make the recording about 20 years old. The sokoband album is due in March.

The album is slated for release March 9, 2010. Sokoband has been around since 1990, previously performing as Soko. Dave is clearly a fan, he even provided a quote on their official site praising the group.

New Wine With Dave Matthews Drawn Label

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Side Projects on 12/17/09 6:20am

Blenheim Vineyards has produced a new wine, and part-owner Dave Matthews has designed the label. 2008 Painted Red is a red that is a blend of 37% Cabernet Franc, 32% Petit Verdot, 28% Merlot and 3% Malbec They age all of that in French Oak 70% for 7 months. The result is a limited run (only 327 cases). The label, as you can see, is a Queen of Spades playing card, playing on the similarly designed popular concert posters from the 2009 summer tour.

Because of shipping laws, Blenheim can only ship to certain states (California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia, Washington and Washington D.C.). So if you don't live in one of those, you can't get your wine-on. However, if you'd like to purchase an 18x24 poster of the wine label drawn by Dave, you can do that via their store regardless of where you live.

Dave and Tim in 2010; DMBLive Info

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 12/3/09 9:27pm

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds are slated to play a benefit in 2010. According to an email from The Warehouse, Dave and Tim will perform May 20. 2010 at D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. to benefit Jane Goodall and her Jane Goodall Institute, which does great scientific work in Africa (Click Here for more info)

Tickets are available through The Warehouse beginning December 3 until December 7. The tickets are $95, but don't forget it's a fund-raiser, basically.

Also, you may have noticed that there is a new show in the DMBLive series, 1.27.93. This show has a rich history in the Live Release category. It was slated to be the second live release, after the Red Rocks release. It was eventually scrapped for whatever reason (the most common rumor was it was "too old"), and after briefly considering another show, the ultimate release ended up being Luther College Dave and Tim show. Besides being a hard-to-locate show, the show is also the first official release to feature the band when Peter Greisar was still in the group. If you haven't heard a show with Peter, this DMBLive release is a pretty good example of the typical sound of the band from 1992 to early 1993. Many songs that you're familiar with sound quite different.

Dave to honor Neil Young, Grammy nod?

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Random Appearances on 11/14/09 9:47am

Dave Matthews will be one of many artists honoring Neil Young at the 2010 MusiCare’s Person of the Year, according to Rolling Stone. Fellow Farm Aid-er Director John Mellancamp and The Red Hot Chili Peppers are among the announced acts so far.

The item also mentions that artist that often play the MusiCare tribute often play The Grammy's as well. That's RS's little way of saying that they expect Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King to score some nominations. In a year that clearly not strong in music, perhaps DMB will finally land a best Album nomination. And don't forget that the Grammy committee is the most self-serving, point-making group out there. So perhaps this is part of their mea culpa for disregarding LeRoi's passing last year and the subsequent fallout from it. Or maybe they're just finally given DMB credit for putting out a good album.

Dave To Perform Twice in November for Charity

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 10/26/09 2:43pm

Dave Matthews is performing two shows coming up, but they certainly aren't for the casual fan. On November 13, Dave will join chef John Besh at Robert Mondavi Winery for a dinner, wine, and intimate acoustic performance in Oakville, CA. Sponsored by American Express, tickets are $500 and available through AMEX.

Additionally, Dave is performing at the American Museum of Natural History in New York on November 19. $1500 will get you in the balcony, where $100,000 gets you a "leadership table". The performance will take place in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, and is a black tie affair.

Dave Matthews - Racism Is Everywhere in America

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Politics on 9/21/09 3:27pm

You may have heard about the hip new thing that the kids are trying out there, Hating on President Barack Obama because of his skin color. Well, you're not fooling one David J. Matthews. In an interview with CNN, he's aware of the ruse.

"I found there's a fairly blatant racism in America that's already there," Matthews said in discussing the opposition to some of President Obama's policies. "There's a good population of people in this country that are terrified of the president only because he's black, even if they don't say it. And I think a lot of them, behind closed doors, do say it."

And if you think that was the shocker of the interview, you'd be mistaken. When discussing Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, Dave opined, "Our first three records were really good. We made good records after those first three - really good records - but I don't think they were necessarily the spirit of the band". Whereas Dave's political opinions may fall along party affiliation, Dave's in the vast minority with half of that statement.

Source: Vegas Show Would Be Dave and Tim

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News on 8/20/09 8:28pm

Updating the earlier Vegas Show story, where The Las Vegas Sun reported on a possible Dave Matthews Band show in The Sin City in "October or November", a source familiar with the tour schedule tells antsmarching.org that the show is not for the Dave Matthews Band, but rather Dave and Tim. Logistically speaking, that makes more sense since the Vegas venue is only a 7000 seat arena, which would be a pretty good size for a Dave and Tim show.

As with everything in life, until the Official Site says something, it hasn't happened. And the leak of info has damaged venues potential shows (especially when they're not booked yet). Add in the fact that concert tours are very much subject to change (often...); however, the important part is that the potential concerts this fall - to some extent - are going to be Dave and Tim shows.

Dave To Honor Pete Seeger

Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Random Appearances on 3/18/09 9:18pm

Dave Matthews will be among a star-studded guest lineup to honor Pete Seeger. The Folk legend turns 90 on May 3, and Dave will join Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen (who released an album of Seeger tunes in 2006), John Mellencamp, Ben Harper, and many others to honor the former member of the American Communist party and Stalin apologist, according to the entertainment section of nj.com

The show will take place on Seegers birthday, May 3, at Madison Square Garden. The tickets are a very un-communistic $19.50-$250, with the median price being around $90 for a decent seat. Tickets go on sale March 30. You can purchase tickets via ticketmaster.com. American Express is doing a pre-sale beginning on March 23.

Dave and the Dalai Lama Coming to Albany

Posted by Matt Yette in Random Appearances on 1/16/09 11:10am

In what can be pegged as nothing less than an odd detour from the band's 16-date Spring Tour, Dave Matthews will apparently fly up to Albany, NY after the conclusion of a two night homestand for an appearance at the Times Union Center with none other than the Dalai Lama Himself. According to the Albany Times Union [site experiencing problems], "Following a late afternoon appearance by the Dalai Lama that Sunday, celebrities and big-name entertainers, including Dave Matthews performing without his band, will take the stage. Heads of state could also be invited, said someone familiar with the plans."

The trip will mark Dave's first time back to Albany in over six years, when DMB played a show during their 2002 Winter Tour at the then-named Pepsi Arena. Previously known as the Knickerbocker Arena. And now known as the Times Union Center.

Update: We have been informed by a source close to Dave Matthews that this appearance is neither confirmed nor likely to be. For now, it looks like someone at the Times Union had some wishful thinking and jumped the gun.
