Review: Memorable night at Nissan. First show for me at this venue. The crowd, in my opinion, was really into it, the whole night. The setlist featured a few gems, notably Space Between. What a treat to hear this one for the first time in 4 years. And the acoustic version was magical. Also enjoyed Sledgehammer, DDTW, Cornbread and Eh Hee. Gave Dave the finger (in good fun) when he teased Jimi and went into So Much to Say.

Rant: I sure hope that I never get to the point where something as petty as the setlist or song repeats from the previous night "ruin" the whole show for me. Anytime I get to see DMB live, which isn't as much as a lot of you I'm sure, I soak it up and enjoy every last note.

And if you don't want to hear a bunch of repeats, then go to a 2-night stand. DMB played 2 different shows, at 2 different venues, in 2 different cities. They have a core list of songs that are coming up frequently in this tour and you shouldn't be surprised if you hear any of them on a given night.

Highlights were DDTW, So Damn Lucky (which is becoming a new favorite), Dreaming Tree, Space Between, Sledgehammer, and the encore after sister. I was disappointed in the lack of variety from hershey's show, but still had an awesome time!

I've heard a lot of people complain about this show, and I have to admit a good bit of the crowd I could've done without. However, this was my first DMB life show, and sadly it was LeRoi's final show, so because of both of those things it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

I have seen dave 15 times and I have to say this one was at the bottom of my list. Too much stand up and not enough old jams. The energy with Tim was great but he is back to a non album year where we repeating alot of stuff from previous shows like in 2006.

A very cool show that the crowd was very into...sledgehammer was terrific! Ants and Rapunzel were the highlight for me. Space btw is mucho better...that song, imo, has great lyrics and on this day was performed to a tee! Low points included dave on the piano, low amount of 'classic songs, and tim and leroi not getting enough spots throughout...hopefully the beach will provide some more solos

Overall a decent show. The crowd was into it despite the hot weather. Highlights were DDTW, SDL, The Dreaming Tree, Cornbread, Sledgehammer, and Ants. The Space Between was surprising to hear, but you could tell it needed work...It will be great further into the tour. I was ready to hear Billies in the encore, but PNP >> Rapunzel was still neat. Boyd was on fire with his jams!!

It was a great show, normally would have been a 4, however the fans had the distinct pleasure of watching LeRoi perform beautifully in which turned out to be his last live performance. He is and will be missed and remembered for a long time. I consider myself lucky to have been able to see him do what he loved to do for one last time.

The show was solid. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if they had not repeated half of the songs from the night before. The band should know that a lot of people travel to both of these shows and switch it up accordingly. Two Too much closers in a row = LAME.

I know a lot of people were upset with this show, but I really enjoyed it. It definately didn't match up to the previous set lists they've been doing on this tour, but we got to here the first performance of DMB covering of Sledgehammer (which by the way put Peter Gabriel to shame!) and a great live version of Ants. Tim Reynolds didn't do much, which was dissapointing, and Stefan looked a little ill. But the energy of the band was great (the crowd's energy was lacking). So happy to hear Sister for the encore, but the Jimi Thing tease killed me!

I thought the sound at first was not synched up - Started slow, but really kicked as the band warmed up and the encore was most certainly worth sticking around for...not that I'd ever leave before the lights came up! Poor souls who walked out after the "last" song. "Thank You" really showed us that these guys love what they do and have fun doing it for us! Dave can dance!!!

About 10 of the same songs played as the night before but 1000 times better of a show! The flow was great all night and the band was on their game. First of all the opener, Michael Franti and Spearhead started the night off right. They were phenomenal. Too bad these guys weren't getting as much hype as the other opening bands who really aren't nearly as good. Probably because they are west coasters.

The band got to use their behind screen stage entrance they didn't get to use the night before which was interesting to see (although not that special). Couldn't hear much of the Davespeak from where I sat but he seemed happy to be home. He commented on the heat a couple of times and it definitely was hotter that day/night than the day/night before. I loved it. I saw a couple of wardrobe changes during the show and Dave was constantly wiping his brow. Didn't stop him from dancing which he did a few times, particularly during Thank You. Great cover by the way and the crowd interacting made the song much better than I was expecting. Speaking of covers the playing of Sledgehammer was flawless and a treat. I knew they had been practicing this in previous sound checks so when Tim played the first notes I knew what it was while everyone was still trying to figure it out. That cover is just perfect for them and Dave is able to get the right voice going for it. Another surprising highlight was Space Between. Not a big fan of the song with the full band, but tonight was just Dave, Tim, Carter and Rashawn which was perfect. I've said many times in the past the song is much different and much better as a Dave solo or Dave and Tim and this was the perfect way to play it. Much like OSW. Hopefully they continue to play it this way instead of full band if they keep it in the rotation. The end of the concert was just a huge ball of energy. Ants, SMTS, ASTB, Too Much, Rapunzel, Thank You.....what a way to finish up. While still not one of the best concerts I've been to it was just as entertaining.

(NOTE: I have to preface this review with my best wishes to LeRoi Moore. I soon found out after attending this show that he was injured in an ATV accident in Charlottesville, obviously enjoying some time home before his next show in Charlotte. I wish him a speedy recovery.)

“It’s nice to be so close to home!”

Dave Matthews used those words to open his latest show in Bristow, VA- only a couple of hours from the band’s hometown of Charlottesville. The band efficiently worked their way through the night’s setlist; with an 11 PM curfew, the band could not afford to prolong a lot of their songs. Only 2 songs the entire night were over ten minutes, never the less the band did not let that take away from another well done performance.

After opening with their regularly used “Don’t Drink The Water”, Dave then entertained the crowd with “Old Dirt Hill” and “So Damn Lucky” which gave a chance for Tim Reynolds to employ his signature electric guitar licks. The extended outro then led into “Dreaming Tree” which featured a LeRoi solo channeling internet sensation Tay Zonday and his song, “Chocolate Rain.”

Things got really exciting when Dave picked up his acoustic and brought back “The Space Between” after a four year hiatus, the song makes a comeback to the tour. The song was then followed with another debut with the Peter Gabriel cover, “Sledgehammer.” The cover started with a surreal sounding horn intro and quickly excited the crowd. The performance was the walk away talk of anyone that was in attendance.

The band was running on all cylinders from that point on, going on a great end run with “Everyday”, “Ants Marching”, a tease of “Jimi Thing”, and “So Much To Say” -> “Anyone Seen The Bridge” -> “Too Much.” The show ended with the Sly and the Family Stone cover of “Thank You” where the crowd helped end the show with chants of “Thank you for letting me by myself again!” (Note: I know those aren’t that exactly lyrics but I’d be surprised if the crowd knew them.)

Dave Matthews Band once again pulled off a great show in what was not the greatest of conditions on a hot, time-restricted night in Virginia.

When Monk brought dave the guitar that he uses for Sister and
Oh, I said "this is definitely Sister" and Dave immediately proved me wrong by bringing Space Between out of the blue. (Where did
that come from??). I made up for it on the next song however.
I listened to the sound check and Sledgehammer sounded really
tight, so I figured it would be played on this evening. Just before
they played it, I noticed Roi with the baritone sax and said "Sledgehammer" pretty loudly. Everyone around me was giving me a WTF? look and then two seconds later the band went into Sledgehammer. Total luck, but I looked clairvoyant at that moment! Those two songs were the highlights for me. Tim
was very much in the background and hardly soloed on this evening. The band lacked the energy displayed the night before in Hershey (great show) and this one has to be dead last for me of the six shows I have seen this month. The encore was good,
and I did get a Carter stick, so that makes for a nice night!

Not enough showstoppers, though Ants mid-set was very unexpected and cool. Rapunzel sucks as a closer, and that Thank You shit is dumb. Otherwise, the energy was good (not great) and the guys definitely enjoyed themselves. Oh, and having Tim there was awesome.

Dave playin The Space Between for the first time in 4 years saying he's "trying to remember this song." The first time they ever played sledgehammer as well. Great show. Recorded as Live Trax #14. Interesting tid bit. Listen to the end of ODH. It has the perfect set up for what would become Why I Am. Maybe they had wrote it by then and were practicin? Who knows but anyways it was an awesome show. The last one LeRoi ever played. He will be missed

Wow. What a fantastic show for an Iowan to see in Virginia. While old favorites, #41, Satellite, Dancing Nancies and the like were not played, from Corn Bread through Louisiana Bayou, the crowd intensity was dripping, literally. After slowing down with Out of my hands, the band played Everyday, a medium intensity song, before roaring to the end starting with Ants Marching, culminating with a sweet finishing song, Too Much. You have got to the last song in the encore, Dave played with the crowd, chanting back and forth, as he did his characteristic dancing. Just Amazing, can't wait until Omaha.

Dull and boring.

Perhaps the dullest show I've been to. Dave tried to spice things up with a little dancing at the end of Thank You, but the show lacked any real emotion. Each solo was boring and repetitive. Went to this show by pure happen-stance. Work stuff came up and we were no longer able to go to the show in Colombus...I traded my 10th row tix to a Warehouse member (Mike from C-Ville) for 6th row tix to this show. Show was fine, highlights: The Space Between (Dave solo...very unexpected) & Sledgehammer...the 1st time this song was played, very cool. Stayed at a cool historical looking Marriott Hotel about 15 minutes away from the venue (I like this venue...1st time in Bristow since 2003). Never would have guessed that this would be the last show with Roi and the original DMB lineup as we had always known it - I am VERY glad that I was able to make it to this show, and see Roi perform for the last time.

I really loved this show. It wasn't perfect, but the best I've seen since the Roseland in NYC after UTAD came out.

Don't Drink the Water is always a good opener. Passionate, strong, and fits VA.

Old Dirt Hill is a good song too. It was maybe lacking in energy a bit after DDTW, but still fun.

I'm not sure if I had ever heard So Damn Lucky live, but it is a pretty good song.

When The Dreaming Tree started, the show kicked in high gear. One of the best songs from their best album, this song sneaks up on you and blows you away live. It feels like there's a million moving pieces to it.

I thought we'd get Shotgun at the beginning of the Idea of You, but I like this song better.

Corn Bread + Tim = fun. The joy is steeped with sin.

You Might Die Trying. The crowd loves to sing this one.

Wow. The Space Between. Always thought this was a cheesy song until recently. Then I heard it tonight for the first time live and I was blown away. At the end of it, I felt lucky to have heard it. I know it's a rare gem, and it was really powerful.

Umm. Another Peter Gabriel tune? And a damn good one! A first for me, and I think a first for the band. I want a Live Trax version of this song. It was really good. I think the crowd was in amazement.

Eh Hee. I love this song. This probably ended the "amazing" part of the show for me.

LB. I know people get tired of it, but I still think this is a great song. Anything that Boyd can tear up is alright by me.

Out of My Hands - I like it better than A Dream So Real. (this seems like a long show)

Hani Hani. Come and Dance with me.

Ants with Tim is and always has been crazy. With him, Dave, Boyd, and Stefan jamming, it's a massive attack.

This is where my lower point began. I would have loved to hear Jimi Thing. But going into So Much to Say->ASTB->Too Much has become predictable for me. So Much To Say has grown on me lately. I love ASTB, but it is slowed down too much now. By the time we get to Too Much, I want the exercise to be over. I like each song, but not in the predictable order.

Sister - I prefer a solo/band Gravedigger.

PNP->Rapunzel - I absolutely love this song, but it is not an encore song. I think it's one of the best opener's in their repertoire. But not at the end of the show.

Thank You - This sealed it for me as one of the better shows I've been to (est. 20-25). I love Sly and this song with DMB is fantastic. So much energy. The crowd seemed to be confused by it at first, but they got into it. Dave's dancing was funny, as always.

This was one of the best Boyd shows I have seen. And as much as I miss Butch on some songs, Tim is a welcome catalyst for some good stuff.

I had a great time at this show. The crowd was much better than at last year's show and the band seemed to be having fun. Dave's voice sounded a lot better tonight than I've seen at prior shows. The setlist was pretty good, although there were a few songs I would have traded out if given the choice. A bit heavy on stand up, and no busted stuff (I think?). Highlights for me included Idea of You, Cornbread, Dreaming Tree, Eh hee, Ants, SMTS, and Rapunzel. LA Bayou was pretty good too. Would have loved to hear Jimi thing, but only got teased. Oh, by the way, Sledgehammer was GREAT! Overall A- for me, and worth suffering through the world's worst concert traffic.

I was really going into this show with high hopes after the great Hershey show, but was let down throughout. The band seemed to go on earlier than usual causing me to miss most of DDTW and seemed to end earlier than usual with the encore ending at 1058. I guess the 3+ hour show the night before made them a little tired, but that is no excuse to have eleven repeats from the previous night, including the exact same closer. The crowd had a lot of energy, but I recognized a lot of the faces from Hershey and know that a lot felt like they heard a very similar show two nights in a row. That said, DT and Rapunzel were good to hear. I think Sledgehammer is a decent cover of a mediocre song (I was hoping for Hey, Hey, My, My). I heard they soundchecked You Never Know, and I wish we would've gotten that debut instead of a very slow and soft The Space Between. Oh well, maybe next year.

I thought this was the best show that I have been to. I loved the end with Thank You!

Didn't see him last year at all. While the show was not the best I've seen, it reminded me why I like DMB.

this was roi's last show i believe... i can't descibe how bittersweet it feels to know i heard the last time he ever played ants marching. i don't know about all you other dmb heads, but his solo during the bridge always has and always will send shivers dancing up and down my spine. rip, i miss your sax everyday.

also, i didn't know tim reynolds was gonna be there until i saw him. that was really really freakin awesome.

A unique setlist. Dreaming tree was a little long, but I loved Old Dirt Hill. Space between acoustic was awsome!

Absolutely incredible and memorable show. With my cousin Chad giving up his seat for me and it being LeRoi's last show, this is a show that will never leave my memory. I plan to go back as an annual tradition as I have this year (2009).

Fantastic show (first in 2 years), I was dancing the whole night. This was show #8 for me, I loved how some of the slower songs they jammed. Tim is such an excellent addition to the band. Space Between was a treat (I was at the last concert they played that song in 2004). Second only to Randall's Island for me. Pretty site too. Dreaming Tree is always a pleasure, haven't heard it since '03. Maybe the Gorge next!

Don't Drink the Water was a great opener. Lights and jumbo screens this years are awesome! Great show overall but I agree with the others that maybe one or two more jam based older songs (Seek Up, Jimi Thing, Two Step ) would have hit the spot. On another note, there were a ton of open seats down in the orchestra pit on the left side....odd.

The show was fun fun fun, probably because the crowd was so into it. I always dance at shows but I've never danced that much before. DDTW is such a powerful song I was excited when the show opened with that. I also feel people are too hard on Old Dirt Hill just because it was on (Stand Up) but it sounded cool and a lot of the crowd was singing along with it. The highlight for me was Dreaming Tree because I LOVE IT and it was my first time hearing it and the outro for it is so spacey. Sledgehammer was really great to hear and I thought Space Between sounded cool and was neat to hear them play it since it hadn't played it in four years. I didn't like Out of My Hands, it's just to slow and blah. Bayou was fantastic and I thought the closer of the set was a blast with Ants,SMTS, and Too Much.
At first when they started playing sister for the encore I just assumed we'd get a thank you after that and that would be it, so I was really happy when PNP..>Rapunzel was next, and Thank You is a great cover they do and everyone around was grooving to it. My 6th show and they didn't let me down. Bring on VA BEACH!

My first DMB show! We had lawn seats, but from now on I'm going to need to be in the pavilion. I'm not into the party scene that the lawn is famous for. I just want to watch and hear the show!

It was great! I'm hooked!!!!

Just got back (luckily easy traffic tonight) from Nissan... A really hot night, without any rain to cool it off, but had a blast (as always).

A solid set, with some surprises, although perhaps a little Stand Up heavy...

Dave Matthews' voice was on tonight, with some funny davespeak: when he got into the piano seat, for example, for out of my hands, he said don't mind me or something to that effect, "this is just the box where i keep my monkey . . . I have an orange penis with some blue balls," leaving us all thinking wtf?! hahah

Now the Show

Don't Drink the Water: always a solid opener, with a creepy intro with tim fills, probably standard compared to rest of the tour...

Old Dirt Hill: if you are going to play it, get it out of the way early (but not as the opener ala Hershey)... Shorter than 2005 versions, mercifully so... but despite all the hate, once it gets going it's not a bad summer tune, just don't play it at my show...

So Damn Lucky (extended): since they added this one with a longer jam, it has gotten tighter, and really become a strong highlight for the tour. I hope it stays around, but please tell me why this was never tried full band before the solo effort... dave's voice still holding strong (as it did throughout the night)....

The Dreaming Tree: FANTASTIC! Carter's drumming shines in the jam... really glad this is a staple this year and a carry over from IZOD... I had not had the treat of hearing it yet (16/17, maybe 18 shows now?)... They honestly could just play stand up album and this and I'd still be happy (well, maybe, hahah, ok scratch that...)

The Idea Of You: They brought out the little guitar near the end of the dreaming tree jam, and i thought it wouldnt be shotgun b/c that's too long, dark songs otherwise back to back... new intro still sounding nice, standard (but solid) performance...

Corn Bread: new Tim Jam, and bitching horn section added toward the end now (may have been done in recent weeks since i saw it 5.31.08 in pittsburgh), but really got the place jumping... i might add the crowd was better this year compared to the past two years at Nissan...

You Might Die Trying - like the other 08 versions... solid staple, enjoyed it, as did everyone else...

The Space Between * - where the hell did this come from? out of no where... he opened quietly with lyrics on this one, and the crowd was quite receptive... only dave, tim and carter played, almost like everyone forgot how to play it. carter barely played rather than a few light percussion adds. dave said at the end thank you and that he hoped he didnt put anyone to sleep. it was rather quiet and unrehearsed compared to 01/02 etc, but glad to hear it again, to be honest. don't bitch about this debut...

Sledgehammer - i know it had been soundchecked as of late, but was still very surprised to hear this jamming number. tim opened with that riff and it opened from there into a rockin number. you all will see this probably mix up with Money for mid-set covers. the crowd went wild and sang along... fun stuff

Eh Hee - solid, more polished, and enjoyed it. standard but had the creepy women dancing from the music video on the screens...

Louisiana Bayou - I'll take it in moderation. Boyd was in tune, standard, no dave wailing at the end.

Out Of My Hands + - after three stand up songs, I was hoping for dream so real, but whatever. hadnt heard it since 05 and it's quick. once carter is into it, it's fine, but just a breather. dave really is not a piano player, however. might be better to stick to the guitar, but no complaints.

Everyday - standard. crowd loved it, it segued into Ants...

Ants Marching - extra long ending jam i thought (thoughts!?). no new intro, but extended snare ...

Jimi Thing (tease) - odd, and took a second to figure out what was happening. im guessing it was scratched from the set? here was the part teased w/ dave playing a bit of the opening riff:

"If you could keep me floating just for a while
'Til I get to the end of this tunnel...mummy
If you could keep me floating just for a while
I'll get back to you"

So Much To Say...> : love tims fills on this... makes it a nice layer to an otherwise standard tune...

Anyone Seen The Bridge...>: like the ross/roi adds now toward the end of this jam.... still has the slow broken up intro started last year ... fun stuff...

Too Much: standard, but fun, and as humid as it was, dave was a mess w/ sweat, but solid, nice scatting at the end.

more than a half hour left w/ the encore coming, i knew it was going to be a decently long encore...

Sister ~ - they played this midset last year, wish it had not been played, but given that it was a long encore, that's fine. at least the placement was not midset, causing a buzz kill... folks in front of me rolled up one and took a little break.... hahah, actually my whole section was smoking up pretty solid as far as i could tell, lol...

Pantala Naga Pampa...>
Rapunzel : interesting, check the set list... carter started the gravedigger drums, and they called them off and i think switched to rapunzel, which i prefer. fun version with dave having fun hitting some goofy high notes. this song is better with butch, i think, but the boys were having fun. i thought there was a chance this was the last song, but still 15 min... thank you? yes...

Thank You: Perez should have posted this dance, it was better fun song, good closer after rapunzel.... crowd was digging it...

A- night... A if you scratch 1-2 stand up songs and mix it up w/ a few older tunes... always a good night, and no complaints.

!!!
