Re: The Marijuana Smoker's Thread
This pussy voluntarily showed up at my drug and alcohol classes... and had the balls to say his problem was smoking marijuana and he needed help to stop. I almost slapped him in the face. You've got a room full of alcoholics and crackheads, and he's over here talkin about weed.

It tells me that if you tell someone not to do something, it makes them want to do it even more. God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of the poison tree, and what did they do? They ate it. You tell a kid not to go fishing in the cookie jar and he'll be in there the first chance he gets. These newest wave of anti-jane programming are ridiculous, especially the yellow cartoon with the dog talking to his owner and the horrible music...WORST...COMMERCIAL...EVER. This commericial actually depresses me into toking up. You can't begin to understand the pyschological dependence that marijuana causes - it's stronger than the physical/chemical addiction of some drugs for certain people. It can aggravate a prexisting psychosis or neurosis. It can ruin people's lives. Before I was placed on other meds I used to use it way too much. I've learned a balance now, a moderation, and I use it as a carrot and stick, a reward for getting things done. Now, yes, I believe that marijuana is probably the least harmful "drug" there is when used responsibly and in the proper form, but to say that someone is a pussy because they showed up to an NA meeting/drug class voluntarily just for that is, well, a little misinformed. If anything, this person has exhibited courage, probably thinking about what ridicule they might receive from more serious users or people with deeper problems. But the fact that they're getting help now, before turning to a deeper, darker drug (not saying it's a gateway, but I've been to the point where nothing green can placate me and I've moved beyond) or doing something else destructive, is a big step. If someone can't quit it, it's probably because there are other problems in their life. Maybe they have an addictive personality, maybe they smoke to deal with shit. It's an easy problem to nip in the bud because there is no chemical addiction. I'd suggest that this person go to a psychiatrist/psychologist rather than group rehab, or a specific group targeted for marijuana users, such as a nar-acon cannabis group. I'll admit if someone walked into a meeting like that I'd naturally wonder why, but I'd probably push them more toward what I said above. I believe that cannabis just isn't for some people - some are too dumb to use it, some are too irresponsible, and some are too psycho to use it. I've seen personalities completely change for the worse. Anyway, finals suck. |

Along the same lines my friend got sent to rehab for 3 months as an in patient, and 4 months as an out patient for weed. Did it work? I dont think he's ever smoked as much weed as he did when he came out of rehab. |
Re: The Marijuana Smoker's Thread
this is kindof random but i dont feel like making a separate thread on it..ive been thinking lately, well actually i came to this realization when i was high that maybe there is a link between the hippy generation's focus on peace and love and weed. that might seem obvious to a lot of people but honestly i never really thought about it. weed for me at least makes everything more peaceful, and in turn i feel more peaceful so it only makes sense that marijuana aided that cause in the 60s. i wish more people smoked , i really do think peace would be semi easier to achieve. not like thats news or anything, i just never really gave it much thought :) the more and more i smoke the more i realize how stupid it is that this plant is illegal. think about how many violent drunks there are out there ... is anyone ever violent when they are high?
|
Re: The Marijuana Smoker's Thread
I don't know, Emma, my guess is probably. The "hippie" generation held certain political and social ideas that you don't need to be high to appreciate or embrace, but I'm sure weed helped.
I do know it makes me feel more peaceful and loving. :) Edit: Never heard of anyone getting violent while high on just weed. |
Re: The Marijuana Smoker's Thread
Yeah, I am in no way saying that weed was the only factor, (definitely not) just saying that it most likely aided the cause for peace :)

I believe the counter culture is an overused term - it's becoming the culture. When I see "the man" i.e police, elected officials, etc., sharing many of the ideals that I do, it says alot. The law is one thing. Choosing to follow it is another thing entirely. Who says what the culture is? Is it not allowing same sex marriage? Is it fostering the preservation of the environment? Who's place is it to say this? I think we are seeing a resurgence of progressive politics, along the lines of the early 20th century and the Bull Moose/Teddy Roosevelt/Populist party. The previous election is indicative of this as many ultraconservative politicians were ousted. While there are more dominent factors that determined the outcome of the election, such as probably Bush's perceived ineptitude, we've seen that people want to live their lives the way they do - free of government interference. Bush scared the shit out of me with some of the programs that he wanted to pass before the switch, including allowing interrment camps for Islamic Americans, expanding the death penalty to cover other offenses than murder or treason, etc. In closing, if I were ever a diplomat, I'd always take some kind bud and a little bit of fine alcohol to the session with me. |
Re: The Marijuana Smoker's Thread
Also, if you haven't see "Don't Get Busted," see it. Google the details. It shocked even me, and I study this stuff. It tells you how things really work, from an x-cop turned pothead. And a portion of the proceeds go toward good causes. Highly recommended by High Times! I think each and every one of us as smokers needs to take an hour out of our lives to see this video for our own good. Much of it is common sense, but some of it seems contrary to common sense, and that is what's shocking.
Case in point, while you have a right to refuse search, in almost all cases that'll raise a huge red flag. Also, those police support stickers, jesus fishes, even DMB stickers and colleges, should be removed because they stick out like a sore thumb for profiling purposes and are, in and of themselves, reasonable articluable suspicion. Make your vehicle as non-descript as possible, don't travel with unnecessary passengers or cargo, and make sure you know the route and local customs. Shockingly (or perhaps not) many dog handlers have methods of making their dogs falsely indicate, which is probable cause and grounds to search. You see in this movie how they are trained, and how unscrupulous handlers get results. You tell Spot, "get it, boy...," etc, Spot perks up, right? No different than this for dog handlers, and this can lead to a search of your vehicle. Watch this, you won't be disappointed. |

Re: The Marijuana Smoker's Thread
Chris, my friend said the same thing when I mentioned that to him. If you're having a problem with weed, then see a psychologist or something. You'll get more help there. Group counseling isn't good for that. Most of the people at group counseling will be talking about alcohol or heavy drugs. You're alone when your problem is marijuana, because mostly, everyone smokes it. And there's no problem with that. It's a part of life. It's like popping a tylenol when you get home. Honestly.

Only Tylenol doesnt make me laugh at my own feet.
I get what your saying though. |

My problem wasn't as much with weed as it was with "X-factors" in my life causing me to rely upon it, hence psychological dependence. Depression, anxiety, lethargy are problems in and of themselves that weed (or lack thereof) can exacerbate. I mainly found out that I had an extremely convoluted pattern of thinking about everything. I think this is the way it is for most if not all people with problems of that sort. Although it is physically impossible to be chemically addicted to THC, I've seen some people who seem to defy that...but I think that's largely a show. BLARGH!!! Just finished a final, hopefully did very well, put in mad hours preparing but the only absolute in my line of schooling is Vodka and Assholes. About to chill out now...then get back to the grindstone. How are all my tokers this fine day? |
