Video or just audio? Drive in says video to me, but I guess I'm still unsure.

Finally they toss the fans a bone. This was a really fun show.

Hopefully will be some older shows in the mix too. Some unreleased ones from the Roi era would be legit.

million dollar question

(and I agree that 'drive-in' connotes a video experience)

I didn't think they'd actually do it. I just hope they're not all Buddy shows.

If this ends up being audio only, that will be really lame and title would not make even a little bit of sense.

It's not like they couldn't air MSG 2002, Listener Supported, Folsom, CP, or Piedmont for this. But yeah, let me know when they show something with Roi.

Every single big band is doing video streams. I would 100 percent think this is a video. A Drive In movie has video :lol

This will be fucking awesome if they really dig into the vault and show some older shows. It will get old real quick if they just offer 2018 and 2019 shows with Buddy.

Glad to see and hear I'm not the only one who isn't sure if this is audio and video or what exactly. However, having seen past DMB video releases and their bad camera positions, angles, zooms, etc, I'm happy with just the audio!

This will be something nice to turn on each Wednesday and have on in the background while we're making dinner or whatever.

Are you talking about unreleased older shows? I doubt that happens. Phish has been doing dinner and a movie and not one older show (in the 1990s) yet. I doubt dmb does anything from deep in the archives. Maybe some 3.0. like 2013 or something, but I doubt we get a unreleased Roi show.

Props to dmb management tho. This is a very nice surprise.

DM'B and management behind the trend as always. Regardless, another night to have some background music. Always appreciated. Just reiterating that I hope it's not all Buddy-era shows

There are more than enough older video releases that they can use, but it’d be great to get something unreleased from the older days. Getting nothing but Buddy shows would be a fucking drag.

This. Earlier I said I'd be fine with them playing Listener Support or the DVD shows they've released with the LTs, but if it's only shows with Buddy then this is a missed opportunity.

Re: Dave Matthews Band "Drive-In" - Every Wednesday At 8!

I'd consider playing Listener Supported and other shows previously released a missed opportunity. I don't need to see something that I've been able to watch for decades, looking for new stuff.

Re: Dave Matthews Band "Drive-In" - Every Wednesday At 8!

if you define "new" as "unreleased" I agree. I don't need to see listener supported again, I agree. but I want stuff from that era.

actually I just want good setlists; there are some from the modern era but not many

All of their DVDs are on their official YouTube channel, with the exception of the 3 Live Trax DVDs. But even those are uploaded by other accounts.

I guess Folsom isn’t uploaded either, but most people have it.

In addition to the logo reflecting people sitting on a couch watching something, I’d have to think that the lack of any mention of Sirius means that this is more than just audio.

Yes this is what I mean, same thing with watching CP or Piedmont. We are fortunate to have someone like Copperpot who has put up endless full shows with amazing quality over the years as well, it changes my interest level for this Wednesday night thing.

I’m with you on this. I own everyone of those old shows, and I can play them whenever the fuck I want.

I’d honestly rather something like a 2013 show over the old stuff we already have.

Hopefully, they actually do dig into the archives and give us a unreleased old show with Roi. See what one saying?

Do we have the ability to rewatch streamed shows on nugs.tv? I'm on the west coast so I'll still be at work when it's streaming.

They'll be ripped I'm sure. So you can re-watch later or download the audio.

I think this is cool. Let's give it a few shows or a month or two before we start talking about missed opportunities. I know this is DMB's management we're talking about, but some of y'all make it always a lose lose situation for yourself.

I should clarify, if they chose a show like Listener Supported or one of the LT DVDs, I'd probably watch at least a bit of one. I'd be much more excited for an unreleased show from that era but I know the chances for that are likely very slim. I'm sure there are some shows pre-Buddy that are taped that we haven't seen and depending on the set, I'd be inclined to watch. This is what I meant my a missed opportunity, a chance to showcase shows that are pre-Buddy.

I won't be watching anything with Buddy in the lineup.

We get that some don’t like the band without violin, but I kinda hate how people say “pre Buddy” as if he is the problem.

The product improved when he came along in Houston. That night before show in February 2018 was awful.

Petition to switch to "post-Boyd" and "with Boyd" or "pre post Boyd".

They do. I wish he would use the organ a bit less as I don't think the sound fits with a lot of songs but that'd be my only complaint.

My favorite music from the band comes from a period that was before Buddy came along, didn't know saying pre-Buddy was so controversial now. Oh well, carry on.

I just find it odd, because the issue with the sound has more to do with lack of violin or Boyd not the addition of Buddy. If anything the addition of Buddy has slowed them down. It doesn’t matter really, just saying.

I mean hey it’ll be full length shows on video every Wednesday for free....that’s not a bad deal, band isn’t forcing you to watch it or charge for it. Sit back and enjoy and maybe have some fun? Not every band is like Radiohead who over the last year have unleashed for streaming an insane amount of their archives for free..

I wish it wasn't his default. I like his solo on LIOG a lot, but on other old tunes like BOWA it doesn't work super well.

Been trying to figure out why he goes to it so much. He's a phenomenal player and his parts are tasteful as hell. I think it comes down a couple things:

- This is a big band with a horn section and two guitars; one of those guitarists is Tim Reynolds, who is loud. Organ (especially with the drawbars the way Buddy often has them set) cuts through better than piano, rhodes, etc.

- In an early interview with him, he said the first question Dave asked is if he plays organ. I think Dave might prefer it.

'08 or '09.

People asking for older shows must be aware that - with the exception of pre-planned releases and very special occasions (MSG '02) - prior to '02, DMB wasn't filming their shows.

'02 to '08/'09 were filmed in standard definition.

I would not expect any shows older 2010.

Is this true though? They had video screens in 2001 and 2000, and I think even 1999. Look at the camera rigs from this Philly 1999 show-

And there's a few shows from 2000 that leaked-

And look, screen footage as early as 1998, although someone obviously filmed this with their camcorder but there's still screens at the venue-

I would say whenever they started playing outdoor amphitheaters they probably had side screens. So at least 1996 or 1995 they probably have the footage form most of those shows.

They definitely have footage of at least 2000 shows. People were able to obtain the direct video files from the screens.

Now when it comes to earlier years, they were filming a live feed, but were they recording them? It would surprise me if they weren’t. They already had all the camera rigs set up and they were already recording the audio, why not record the video too?

just give us some random side screen footage from 1995-2004. Even 2005-2008. Anything with Roi would be a freaking blessing

This. People cream over the audience cam videos Copperpot posts when it's halfway obstructed by bad dancers, so I'll take any step up in quality over that.

(I do like Copperpot's videos, just want to throw that out there)

It will be fun to see how many people here complain about a FREE product put out by the band. The negative comments each time Phish announces a Tuesday stream blow me away.

That Deer Creek show is really good. ASTB is a great way to start a show. And that Fool To Think is actually a solid version.

Definitely have video from the 90s.

I think we will get stuff from all eras of the band.

It would be nice to get a pro shot of a show I actually attended. It was never likely to happen, but now I feel like some have a better shot.

Here’s some decent shows I attended

Re: Dave Matthews Band "Drive-In" - Every Wednesday At 8!

The more I think about it, the more I think dmb just may pull something from deep into the archives at some point.

Phish has webcast almost every show and I’d imagine it’s easier to take one of these broadcast and do very little editing to it and spin it out. Dmb doesn’t have the luxury of all these brodcast shows like phish does. In dmbs case they would have to go pull from the archive and do more editing. Picking a random show from 3.0. wouldn’t be any easier then say a 90s show or early 2000s show. So if that’s the case maybe we see some older shows earlier. Just trying to have some optimism, I could be way off base.

Maybe we'll finally end up with soundboard audio of Bismark.

second that emotion on wanting a soundboard bismarck, but if you havent heard it, there is a soundboard bismarck on youtube that starts about 30 seconds into the song. its a video shot from behind carters kit. the company that did it also posted a shake me like a monkey from june of that summer also. the bismarck is great and the smlam is a pretty great version considering the song never really found its legs in the live setting imo. being a bismarck fan myself, the taper pulls from new hampshire that year are pretty great quality shows. i made a bismarck ep for my ipod with the debut, the soundboard version, the soundboard d+t from farm aid, and another taper pull from a show like a week after cville that sounds damn close to a sbd pull

I just think 18-19 is beaten to death with xm, free downloads and modern technology.

I’d like old old stuff. Back when the band was actually good

There’s a link set up on YouTube already for the stream on Wednesday:

Hopefully this confirms it will be a video stream.

Well, it does say nugs.tv, so I think we have video confirmed!

Very excited for this series! I think they'll probably start with a few recent shows from the Buddy era, but then mix in some older shows as the summer goes on.

Oh I know this cracks me up too! The artwork is literally people looking at a screen. How was this a debate? :)

Hah. Same. I just bought a new TV and it's awesome to pull up some of those 4k Phish videos on it, but there aren't any DMB ones to be found.

There is little to no chance for anything other than 18-19, CP, Piedmont, other full band DVD releases.

Re: Dave Matthews Band "Drive-In" - Every Wednesday At 8!

This will be something fun to catch each week. Even though the current lineup is not my favorite, it's still fun to watch them play. I don't see this going beyond 2018 or 2019. Essentially this is taking place of the tour that won't happen this year, so why would you promote a version of the band that no longer exists? It seems to me that the first night would have been a good chance to set the tone if they were truly going to dig into the archives. Kick it off with one of the Giants Stadium shows from 2000. So kicking it off with a 2019 show says to me that's what we can expect.

Do we have to watch this live at 8 on Wednesdays or will it be archived on demand afterwards?

Cool that we already have pro audio of night 1 and now will have for night 2 of deer creek.

Was just listening to Crush from another 2019 show and thinking how it’s definitely a song that’s been improved by current band by dumping Boyd’s skree-fest solo and having Tim handle a bunch of parts on slide while buddy plays really tasteful piano accompaniment. Although I do miss the Tim v Jeff solo dual thing they used to do, I quite enjoy the feel of 2019 crush. Glad we’ll have deer creek video of it tomorrow!

This is the question I have... Timing is not ideal for us in the People's Republic of Gavin Newsom

Do we know if these are going to be mixed and mastered like a live trax or are they soundboard pulls similar to sirius xm?
