Too many haters invade the thread.

Believe me, I'd love to have a thread about the greatest team in the history of sports. :)

Cowboy up!

Appreciated, thanks. :)

I've been a fan my entire life. I went to my first game in utero. My mom was 8 and a half months pregnant with me. My father's nickname is Tommy Yankee. I grew up watching guys like Bobby Meachem, Wayne Tolleson (a shortstop in the 80s who wore #2, funny, huh), Mike Pagliorulo and Oscar Azocar. I was at a Boston Yankees game when Deion Sanders (yup, Neon Deion was a Yankee) hit a line drive off Roger Clemens in the first inning and knocked Roger out of the game.

I remember how awful the teams of the 80s were. Donnie Baseball never had a good supporting cast to get the team into the playoffs until 95. By then, it was too late for the Hitman. :(

Re: New York Yankees

My dad might be just about the only person in the world who roots for the Sox AND the yanks...yeah, is right.

Yankee fan from birth (CT). Saw his first game when Mantle was still playing. Appropriately, they lost to none other but the Red Sox :D .

Then he moved to MA and now appreciates the Fenway eternal struggle. While he'll always be a Yanks fan, he'd love to see the Sox win it just once.

Despite our horrible record against the Yanks, I'm feeling confident this year. It's just the back end of the Mets rotation that makes me nervous, so hopefully that won't do too much damage...and hopefully Glavine will pitch in the series at Shea. In some ways I think our pitching is a bit better than the Yankees'.

No, I have a friend who posts there. I registered when the bridge went down, and because I wanted to get away from the DMB stuff for a while. They're a cool group, but it's not very active over there.

The NYY starting rotation is a little suspect right now. Moose had a good game the other night, I'm interested to see what Contreras does now that his family's with him.

If the Yanks get a lead in the 6th, it's pretty much over with Quantrill/Gordon/Mo. I haven't seen a bullpen this good since 96 with Mo and Wetteland.

They don't have a thread because they dont have fans that actually care about a team winning or losing.

What's a killer instinct? It's when you go up against a lesser team and you pound them. You pound the other team so bad in the first game of a series that they are intimidated to show up for the rest of the weekend.

Look at a guy like Derek Jeter. He's the all- American guy. Good looking. Says all the right things. Everyone loves this guy. But on the field, he is an assassin. You better believe that when he is going off in the clubhouse, he isn't saying all that nice stuff you see in the papers. When it's the Yankees vs. anyone -- it's no mercy, as far as Jeter is concerned.

The Phillies? They don't rip anyone's heart out. They never go for the jugular. As a result, they aren't feared by anyone. So when they take the field against the Marlins, the Brewers or the Rockies -- everyone thinks they have a chance to win.

Jeter isn't alone. Look at Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. Those guys never quit. They pour it on to the end. They want to bury you.

Same with Pudge and Bonds. If you're gasping for air, those guys will step on your throat. You think Bonds isn't trying to hit a home run everytime he gets up? Even when the Giants have a five-run lead, he's not up there chasing Hank Aaron. He's trying to deliver the knockout blow to his opponent.

And it isn't just when they're performing on the field. Sure, everyone's in a great mood when he goes 3-for-3, or when he strikes out 10 guys.

Last week, Esteban Loaiza gave up a big lead to the Indians. Later on in extra innnings, Jose Valentin won it for the White Sox on a homer. Who's top-stepping it the whole time in the dugout? Who's the first guy in the scrum when Valentin gets home?

Right, Loaiza.

Most pitchers would be icing their arms, pouting and feeling all sorry about their performance. With this guy, it's all about winning. Who cares what he did? That's a guy you want around.

There's plenty of time to be nice to your opponents in the offseason.

The killer instinct. It's what makes good players great, and great players winners.

That's gotta hurt, one of your own pointing out the flaws of your team...

And the main reason there isn't a Yankees thread is because the second one is made, it's filled with so many "Yankees suck" and "Yankees blow" and all those other mind-numbing arguments, that it's impossible to have an intelligent conversation amist all the jealousy and stupidity.

Oh gosh...it pains me to see my beloved Rangers. & years and no playoffs. :BANG

Anyways, I grew up a Yankees fan. I was born in CT so we rooted for all the New York teams. I've never been to a game, but I hope to go one day. Yanks seem to be in good shape at the moment. 5.5 up on the Sox. If the Yanks can get a good pitcher at the trade deadline, they will be in good shape.

It really does hurt with the Rangers, doesn't it? Did you catch the 10 year anniversary special on the 93-94 season? They replayed Game 7 of the Cup Finals. I got goosebumps and teared up a little at the end. :)

No I didn't catch that. But I remember watching the game in 94. I did tear up.

i'm hoping contreras goes on a tear now that he should (presumably) be feeling better since he has been reunited with his family. with that, the two ?marks are the health of g.sheffield and k.brown. with the whole lineup healthy, this team is another animal....
and its nice to see alex producing like he normally does - i guess it took him a few games at the start of the season to get acclimatized, but (and maybe this is a stretch) but 50HR in his first season as a NYY would be special.
and btw, #42 rules very much (my fav. yankee)
