Re: is live release studio editing out of control?

Oh come on, DMB still gives us way more raw performances than most bands do. How many rock bands put out double-live albums that are so overproduced and redone in the studio that they don't even list where and when each song was performed? That it's not "Korn Live at MSG 12.2.07" but rather a mismash of various concerts edited together to sound like one concert, and all mistakes, missing vocals, sour notes fixed to the point that its just another studio album with random crowd noise overlapping it.

If you personally hit a dreadful note in concert, and someone said they recorded you and wanted to release it, I'm sure you'd feel some insecurities begin to rise. DMB are artists, therefore they are perfectionists -- yet still, on the whole, they give us a much, much more honest live product than most bands do. A tweaked note or vocal here and there isn't the end of the world or some huge slap in the face. It's the band trying to give us what they consider the best possible product, taking all interests into account (the band's desire to be perfect, and our desire for the raw, most honest capture of a particular performance).
