Is it just me or does last night's Sirius recording sound really good? Man it's night and day from Chicago last Friday. Buddy sounds incredible on Grace is Gone. The horns could be a little louder but Carter, Fonz, Buddy and Dave's guitar sound great so far.

Lots of environmental differences too. Chicago was completely open air and very windy, Deer Creek is an amphitheater.

They’ve cut songs before on re airings for some reason. WPB N2 2019 had that happen with Seven, at least. I don’t have an answer but that’s why recording the initial stream is important.

I noticed that listening on the app this morning. Later in the day I went to listen to the show again and it appears to have been pulled. Maybe they're fixing that and reupping it.

Yup, I heard the same.

EDIT: Previously, I had read that the show itself was supposed to be broadcast starting at 7pm, so that's about an hour for this preshow. I wonder he'll be interviewed at all like they did before the first show of the tour.

I am not sure. The Sirius streams are really hit or miss quality-wise. Phish releases GREAT quality soundboards from each show. It's possible if DMB was on Nugs with every show that they'd sound much better than Sirius.

They can easily put forth the effort and put out quality SBDs the next day, etc. They just choose not to.

Hey Mark, since you are a taper I am asking you: don’t you have the impression that - at least in some venues - the SiriusXM is recording is quite similar to a tape? The crowd is very noisy, you hear people whistling and screaming, and that should not happen in a SBD recording. I am sure they are given access to the soundboard, but… how is possible to have such a bad sound? It really sound like a tape recording, which is nonsense to me

Yeah. You are exactly right. The Sirius streams are mixed on the fly by someone backstage and they just aren’t great this year. The Noblesville N1 one was the best I’ve heard from 2021 but I really dislike the sound of Raleigh, WPB and Chicago. I don’t have a solution for these... 2018-19 definitely sounded better but the best quality ones / best mixes are ones they take their time on - the debut shows. 2004, 2006, shows never aired before. It must be much harder to mix these live at the show for the broadcast.

But yes - they’re not good. They even sound mono to me. The crowd is way too loud, the band sounds flat, Dave’s voice is awful at times and nothing like what he sounds like at the show, etc. I am still glad we get them but that’s why it’s important we get audience recordings from every show too. I do hope the Sirius streams improve.
