I'm seeing him when he plays in Minneapolis. Should be a good show.

Good luck. If I lived anywhere near, I'd be in for it. ;-) Good luck!

My wife put on our Decemberists Spotify playlist on Sunday while we were driving around. Got me so pumped for next weekend...really looking forward to seeing some setlists this week.

Were the shows short? Seems like the time I saw him solo before, it seemed a little short. Then again, I always think the D's shows are on the shorter end (except for those 2-set Hazards shows)

Man, what I wouldnt give for them to do another Long and Short of It tour. Can't imagine how awesome that would be

    He came
On at 9 and was off stage by like 1030. Not too bad given 16 songs. Standard decemberists length set wise.

He's up to 6 different new songs on this tour. 3 of them are on that Newport set. They're all on the same level of quality -- fucking grand.

new song 4 is called "the singer addresses his audience." new song 5 was only played once. new song 6 -- not sure if it's actually a new song or just different lyrics

took a classmate of mine to that show I had the spare ticket for. she and I ran into colin after the show. I had met and talked with him tons of times before, but she never has so I shook his hand, introduced her, asked for a photo. he commented on my beard and how he didn't remember me having one before. (I played on stage with them once.) It was pretty funny.

also would like to mention an additional highlight. colin runs his awesome acoustic axe (Gibson) through a distorter for "won't want for love." it's probably the only thing I've had in my head the past few days. so many great performances

Saw the show last night. Sooo good, was so great to hear Colin again. Perfect setlist, really like the new songs a lot. I love the very intimate, relaxed fit of those solo Colin shows. Out of everyone I listen to, I think he and Ben Folds do my favorite solo shows. (Then again, a bit unfair because they're both in my top 5 probably...Colin definitely)

California One closer, Crane Wife encore...perfect combination. Solo California One is so good. Had tons of great Colinspeak :-)

awesome man, glad you had a great show...that was the only song I was bitter about not hearing...it took me so long to hear that played full band (got it at my 8th show which is over 6+ years as they don't tour very often).....it's hard for me to pick a favorite, but I asked him to play apology song and he came through for me in DC...that's probably the biggest moment for me, as I never heard that song before

Seeing the show tomorrow night in Minneapolis. The only time I've seen Colin was at a Decemberists show during the tour supporting The Hazards of Love, so I'm really looking forward to a solo show.

Have any cameras been allowed at the shows? I have dead center balcony seats in the front row, so figured it would make for some decent photos.

depends on the venue...some venues have been extremely strict about recording and photos and saying it's per the artist's request...however, others have just said it's a venue rule....others have said no rules and free reign...it's quite confusing

    Re: The Decemberists

I was sitting on a plane about to fly from Rome to Sicily and my friend and I were talking about music and he turns to me and says "You gotta listen to the Decemberists." He hands me his ipod and hits play. It took me to the end of the first chord of Crane Wife III to be hooked.

Overall though I'm hit and miss with their stuff, but when they hit with a song (Crane Wife Suite / Engine Driver > On the Bus Mall / Come and See > Landlord's Daughter / Wanting Comes in Waves + Repaid) I love it. I actually like Hazards of Love but can definitely see how long term fans of theirs would be put off by it - as many have mentioned it's not so much an album of songs but one song split into 17 parts, hence the repetitiveness.

Would love to see them someday.
