how is there a set supply? Nakamoto has that power to create more whenever he wants. And anyone else can (and will) create other types of "bitcoins".

It is the exact opposite actually. It's a currency with no intrinsic value.

I'm so confused how a bitcoin was worth $10 4 months ago, let alone $100 now?

But I also don't understand what any paper money is worth anyway, so this makes sense in the same way real money makes sense.

Limited supply plus massive demand interest/increase equals massive value increase. The price of $'s and other currencies are regulated by central banks who can support or devalue their currency accordingly to help in monetary policy and the underlying economies.

What is the demand for bitcoin? Who would want one and why would they want one?

Either to use as currency and not pay as any fees. To be anonymous. Or as most people have been talking about: to bet on the currency going up.

Plus, no one needs this. Bitcoin isn't addressing any need in the market. It's just something to gamble on.

    This seems absolutely completely unsustainable.

The entire economic system can't sustain though. Bitcoin just doesn't have the "backing" of a government

The point that it only has the value we give it is a valid one, although you can say that about all forms of money. If the economy ever collapsed and we descended into anarchy, food and water will be the currency, not gold or money.
