The official start of the football season. Anyone having any season long bets (like wins totals) they are on this year?

first CFB game is tonight in Australia... so lets look at some early action.

    OVER 64.5

this number dropped to 60 before rocketing back up. Hawaii gave up about 40 a game last year... they are a bit better on D this year but still... Cal is very high powered

    California -19.5

unless they have severe jet lag this shouldn't be a problem for Cal. The big thing is that Hawaii allowed something like 85% of the trips to the redzone last year to result in TD's. Cal can get in the 20 and just pound the rock and score.

    OVER 23 1st half Cal

the QB is a former Texas Tech guy. the OC is the guy from A&M last year. the coach is Sonny Dykes. All those things say go deep early and often. A&M was a 20 ppg last year v bad opponents. It's early to take a shot on a bunch of new things but I like that look at a nice number.

For Thursday night; the true opening night

    Tulane +17

The Green Wave have a new coach; Willie Fritz from Ga Southern. So it's triple option time v Wake. Tulane was not good last year, but they did have moments of clarity on D. With a low total (43), you have to wonder if Wake can score enough to get away from that 17 number. Last year v the triple option Wake beat Army by 7.

    OVER 55.5 Ore St/Minnesota

year 2 for Gary Andersen in Beaverland. Everyone is predicting Oregon St to finish with 2 or less wins, and rightfully so. But there is something interesting going on here... Darrell Garretson is starting at QB. The name might not be familiar but the situation is. When the beloved Utah St QB Chuckie Keaton 1st got hurt, it was Garretson that took over and led the Aggies to a Bowl game. Gary Andersen used to coach Utah St. The familiarity is there. That means that OSU will score. And they certainly can't stop Minnesota and their rushing attack, so as long as Oregon St hits the 20's we'll be fine. I think they will.

Oregon St made it in the 20's... but it still just missed. it was close.

Had I hypothetically put everything up I was looking at I go 7-2 on Thursday night... seemed excessive but I guess I'm making good reads early. we will try and ride it.

Just a bit of unsolicited advice for anyone who might want it. Historically, for early-season matchups, when there are two pretty closely-matched teams and the total number seems low, it hits at a pretty good clip (like 65-68%...I read an article on it a few years ago that I can't find right now).

Defenses usually have better athletes as a general matter and are more prepared at the start of the season. If a team has a new/inexperienced QB, it's going to take a few weeks for the team to sync up. Pound the unders early with these games between two shitty but evenly-matched teams.

I actually unofficially hypothetically had U 42 on USC/Vandy that I left off the card. It's not a tried and true method but there are going to be some totals early on in the 40's that should legitimately be in the 30's.

    Stanford - 14.5

remember the bowl game last year with K St and Arkansas? Late in the game K St could not stop the run and the Woo Pigs pounded them. Expect more of the same to open the year here. K St is improved a bit on O but Stanford will not be sluggish like they were last year; in fact, they may be better running the ball than they were in 15.

    Temple -16

God Bless em, Army. The literally don't have a QB. They are going to play hard and make some plays, but there's a pretty good chance the Black Knights don't score. And they certainly aren't going to keep the Owls from some big plays.

    Iowa.Miami-Ohio under 52

I actually love both of these as well. Only thing that will slow either of them down is the complacency of facing teams that are far inferior. I don't think either coach lets Temple or Stanford go in unprepared or not fully torqued.

    Got slightly different lines:

    Stanford -15
    Temple 15

    Also going to add:

    Colorado/Colorado St. UNDER 59

    NCAAF: 3-0 (1-0 ATS)

Also going to add Baylor -48 vs. NW State.

NW State is coming off a 4-7 year. To add fuel to the fire, their senior middle linebacker and safety are suspended for tonight's game. Baylor may win by 400.

Agree & Baylor will punish for what they consider slights against them

    Adding

    Baylor -47.5

    Eastern Michigan -40

EMU isn't good but improving. Miss Valley St is a bad D-II team. EMU gets their stats on.

Retook them and Temple at -13 (hypothetically). I don't get the drop at all

    Got slightly different lines:

    Stanford -15
    Temple 15

    Also going to add:

    Colorado/Colorado St. UNDER 59

    NCAAF: 3-0 (1-0 ATS)

Baylor scored 55 by half and then nothing in the second half. Cheap TD by NW State pushed that one. And Temple . That's the sort of game you watch and you tell yourself you're never betting on that team ever again. See ya, Temple.

Got BC/GT UNDER 43 for the early morning game. If a game is going to be on at 7:30 when I'm having my coffee then I have no choice but to have scratch on it.

    NCAAF: 4-2-1 (1-2 ATS)

That Stanford game was infuriating to watch. Biggest difference in the game was when Stanford was driving for a TD, McCaffery fumbles and KState returns it to the other 20 for a FG.
