While im still happy they released it, It is odd that they wouldnt wait to use a show they actually had HD cameras for.

Maybe not as much odd as it is totally predictable for them to do.

Pre-ordered the blu ray and added live trax 39 since I hadn't ordered it yet. Very exciting.

I guess. I'm not bothering with any of the video now though. Not sure why they can't just get things right. Something we have been waiting years for and they know that. Still don't get it right. It's not surprising at all but disappointing.

it seems the last 3-4 LT have been well-received by a high percentage majority of users here, at least in regard to the shows themselves. excited to see what comes next and in the future

Blu-ray is a format, it doesn't specify content. If you were under the impression it does, you are misinformed.

Some Blu-ray discs have lossy DVD-quality audio.
Some Blu-ray discs have no video content whatsoever.
    Some Blu-ray discs are 720p.
    Some Blu-ray discs are 480p.

Dire Straits Alchemy (https://www.amazon.com/Dire-Straits-.../dp/B003D83DPA) was shot on video in 1983, the source material is probably around 300 lines of usable resolution. In spite of the resolution, the release is still amazing, Alchemy in 24/96 5.1 surround. Not surprisingly it has almost 100 reviews and a 4-star average.

You have the option of a DVD if you prefer lossy surround and poorer picture quality, they're not forcing you to choose the Blu-ray option and you can save $5 in the meantime.

Great news, but hope they don't limit the Blu-Ray to Region A/1 like they did with Dave & Tim @ Radio City Music Hall (only other Blu-ray release up until this one?), which meant that you couldn't actually watch it in Europe...

I was not under that impression. Thanks for the info though.

I have a bluray of a zeppelin movie/show. Pretty sure that wasn't shot in HD either but they kinda have an excuse. Doesn't change my outlook here. I'm not gonna give them money for a bluray that is not HD when they could have easily released a show shot in HD. I'll just grab the audio version of this.

I mean...I don't really want any shows from after they started filming in HD

It will look better than the DVD release, I don't know whether it's being encoded at 480 or 1080 but I would imagine the latter. While 1080p24 Blu-ray output should be identical whether you're using a $2,000 Oppo or a $50 Philips, upscaling is another matter entirely. If it's being professionally upscaled to 1080i60 then there is another advantage vs. having your very much unprofessional equipment at home doing it. (and I refer to my equipment as unprofessional too)

It's going to be the best option if you're concerned with quality, it will obviously not be on the same page as Live at Radio City Music Hall.

Completely agree, the audio on the Blu-ray is absolutely going to smoke the DVD.

Song Remains the Same was shot on 35mm film, capable of better resolution than 1080p and these days will most likely be scanned at 4K ~ 6K.

Source material on that one may not have been in great shape, film deteriorates if not stored well. I saw the Blu of that one, if that's what you're talking about, and wasn't very impressed. Plus the whole horsey riding around bits, they must have been pretty high.

The '07 London concert looks and sounds great but some don't consider it Zep with Jason on drums...I think it's the next best thing and worth picking up.

I had this problem with early F1 season reviews, they were only coming on DVD here but Region B/2 in the UK and were 1080i50, it's a real fucker for us that last bit whereas most Europeans have multisystem disc players and DVDs and can play 60Hz stuff.

I ended up buying a burner and some blanks, way cheaper now than ever before. Ripped bit for bit, removed region coding and my Pioneer Elite converts 1080i50 > 1080i60 on the fly.

Given this is not a full on Sony production, I would think the chances of it being ABC coded are good.

Grey Street - pre release and pre 2nd verse version. BOOM. And we have it on dvd. Sweet. And I haven't checked but it should have the classic two chorus finish.

I don't care about the video and would have preferred a 2016 show but come on, this one seems worth it for sure. Lets stop complaining and enjoy the moment and the good new tunes for the holidays.

Once you have a Blu-ray PC drive (doesn't need to be a writer, so $50 or less these days) it's dead easy.

    1) Use MKW (free) to back up the Blu-ray to your HDD removing copy protection.
    2) Use DVD Audio Extractor, navigate to the folder, choose the 5.1 track as normally the 2.0 track is set by default, name the files and in the extraction method choose (STEREO) instead of (ALL CHANNELS) and it will downmix to 2.0 for you.

You can also set the bit-depth and sampling rate in the second step, so if you choose 16-bit and 44,100Hz then your resulting files will be ready to burn to CD.

The video is really cool IMO. It's a major part to why this release is exciting. Pluse it's a fantastic show and just having the professional Audio is fantastic. No way would I preferred a 2016 show. No way in hell. That would have been a disappointment

Anyone notice the date on the image in the email (12.21.01)?

Hopefully this signals the release of a Central Park blu-ray.

Either way really cool and unexpected. Great string of Live Trax releases
