Sara Watkins should be the pick if only so that Chris Thile might guest a few times

In all seriousness I’ll mention Aubrey Richmond from Shooter Jennings band. She kills it!

Exactly, he has been muted literally most of the time as it is. He is turned up for the solos of course but he's not been running around the stage like crazy anymore and has been going through the motions. I'm holding out hope that a new person could bring new life to DMB 4.0

Maybe I should add a poll to see if people even think a replacement is happening.

ZBB is bigger than DMB now and they're touring this summer. so no way he'd join full time. Maybe a spot gig or two.

It'd certainly be fun if they rotated a bunch of players. Get some new blood on the older songs.

But seriously, are the Dixie Chicks doing anything these days? A woman in the band would be kind of awesome. Recruit Martie Maguire!

They shouldn't add a violin. Don't think they will, either.

Also, this is not the same band that played at Trax and Flood Zone. It never was going to be TWENTY FIVE YEARS after those days. Bands evolve and change. It's already incredible that three members have been around since the beginning.

Three of the four original band members are still in the band. And Roi's influence is still all over everything they do (thank God).

I’m wondering if the band asked Boyd for his list.

    Sadly, but truly I agree.

Boyd often played out of key live and just played the same extremely similar solo over and over again for every song. I have several friends who are professional violinists (who play across genres) who feel he was way under skilled.

Regardless, there is no doubt he was a huge contributor to the band and its sound - and I love watching him play as part of the band. Any criticisms have always been balanced by accepting the band for what it is and what they accomplish as a whole. Boyd and the violin have always been an important part of DMB but Boyd’s contribution and perhaps ability (him being demphasized in the mix for live shows is obvious) have started to wane.

Seriously, I will miss Boyd, but I hope they can breathe some life back into the violin.

Someone just reminded me of Ann Marie Calhoun. Apparently she contributed to stand up.

We should also not assume that all the people mentioned would be willing to take the job if it was offered to them either. That would be unfair.

This seems like something I could get on board with. Relatively within the family (not #tHeFaMily), seems to have some flair. Definitely has chops.

Came here to add her name to the fantasy list. She has worked with the band before and is from from VA.

Boyd's style is/was truly unique . A lot of these classical/jazz violinists have amazing chops , but I dunno if they could fit into the DMB sound .

The one guy I would want is Mark O'connor , I think he's got enough of a bluegrass style that he could fit right in . He's more of a fiddler than some of the people mentioned while having the best chops out of anyone not named Joshua Bell .

Unfortunately , I place the chances of Mark O Connor playing with DMB at about 0 . He has his own family band he's working with right now . But who know , maybe he secretly admires carter or Dave or Jeff .
