Yeah, I wish we had seen more of these shows. We saw the first night at Bryce in PA, but the traffic we hit had us miss the first three D&T tunes and we had to hydrate, pee, nurish, and pee again before we got our seats (preggers wife). So we only listened to LIOG and DN. I was devistated when I found out we missed the Stone (didn't get to hear it live until D&T @ SPAC last year...still no band version...). But the band was killer and the covers were just awesome...barring Crippled Creek, as I grew up on the Band and Trey is far cry from touching ANY of the singers in the Band. Despite I still loved that they played the tune. Solsbury Hill had me grinning from ear to ear...couldn't believe it. And then closing the main set with Hey Bulldog...I think my head exploded. Not sure I survived.

Yes though, it was a killer and killing band. I'd hoped they'd do more, that Dave & Friends would be like his Jerry Garcia Band. But his fans are too much and wouldn't let it stay small. Remember when D&T was a "small(er)" thing? Now it'll sell out SPAC B2B...

So I tuned into the sirius channel for the first time and of course they were playing the 05 blackbird again. Is the outro on that blackbird the same as the heartbeat intro to pantala on Listener Supported? Sounds identical.

As much as this topic has probably been covered over the years, I don't feel like we've dedicated enough time to discussing what happened between 2004 and 2005. No sarcasm intended! What happened to those sessions and what factors led to the Batson intro and the subsequent SU sessions?

That's because the songs are not only bad, but are not popular at all among the fanbase. Have you ever heard anyone (hardcore or casual) utter the sentence "oh man, I really want to hear Mercy/Gaucho/The Riff/IF Only/Rooftop/Sweet tonight?!?!?!"

I’d love to hear Rooftop any night. Great bridge breakdown and full of energy.

But very true otherwise. My biggest issue with AFTW is it’s composed of all quiet boring songs.

If they are going to bring anything from AFTW though, it better be Broken Things, BBN, more Rooftop, Drunken Soldier, and maybe a Belly Full E1.

Intro to Song That Jane Likes needs to go back to being a full horn intro, like it was on the early tapes

These should all be E1 songs on the current tour:
    Here On Out
    Some Devil
    Belly Full
    Sweet
    Waste
    Baby Blue
    Death on the High Seas
    Virginia in the Rain
    When I’m Weary

I don't think Dave looks back too fondly on that record. Judging by his Vulture interview from this past May (which was fantastic, btw), he was having a hard time going with his gut and let outside opinions shape the album too much. I'm guessing he's talking about Lillywhite, but maybe not.

Personally, I like AFTW. It's a pretty coherent record, even if it isn't their best. It sounds like DMB, and the songs all fit together pretty nicely.

Come Tomorrow is not that way, although I don't think that was a concern. I'm just glad Dave is happy with it, and I am too.

I would love to hear Rooftop, Broken Things, or BBN - all are good songs. I would also add Snow Outside.

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need its own thread

I didn't see my first show until after Roi died (Fenway 2009), so I've never had the fortune of seeing the Original 5 do their thing (got into them in ~06/07). But being on this board for years now has made me realize lately - especially with the creation of the "Rate the Band's Sound Now" thread - I really haven't viewed this band as the DMB I downloaded taper pulls and listened to BTCS in awe of back when I first got into them, for a very very long time. Honestly, the last time I really (on a subconscious level) considered DMB to be DMB was around 2012/13.

Since then, I've come to grips to the fact that what I'm seeing is Dave Matthews and collection of band members new and old. On the surface this is obvious, but I think emotionally I've come to understand that to enjoy this band I have to understand that I'm enjoying Dave's singer-songwriter artistry and am also able to see a couple original members still continue, but I no longer view this band as anything but that. To think Rashawn and Jeff can match what Roi was able to do through years of chemistry and hard work with the band is unrealistic.

    TL;DR
I view this iteration of the band in comparison to the Original 5 DMB like I view Dead & Co to The Grateful Dead. And I'm perfectly content with that.

Also, it is a darned shame that Big Eyed Fish was never performed/recorded live with the LWS lyrics

Rashawn doesn’t need to be echoing Jeff. Like on Ants tonight, he should not be doing the ending sax solo alongside with Jeff. It’s not adding anything, and it’s ruining my favorite part of the song.

Same with Tim echoing Dave all the time - it's completely unnecessary

A post on the fam asking people to list their top 10 songs. Opinions, I know, but here are some from the blooper reel:

    Stolen Away
    Do You Remember
    Save Me
    Dive In

That was on 12 responses only.

It's pretty telling when Dave came out and said "Yeah, I really don't like that album" as to why it's not getting any play.

Agreed, I love Stolen Away and Dive In. No where near my top 10, but still great songs. Didn't like Do You Remember at first, but it grew on me. I really enjoy that one live. Never really cared for Save Me live, but it fits good on the album

Man, I LOVED that intro. The whole song had this awesome refreshed vibe that brought be back to the 2000 versions rather than the super polished post-BS performances.

I do miss the LWS intro, though, and would love to see it come back one day.
