Mansfield Improv

If the warehouse did anything right this year, it was choosing the Mansfield Jam-->Why I Am to put on the bonus disk. I remember being in the pit for that show and just being in awe during this improv really taking everything in. I love how Dave sings on this. Haunting lyrics about Roi, in Mansfield where I saw my last show with ROI in 2008, so it had some personal meaning to me.

This is why I go to so many shows a year, hoping to hear unique things like this. Here is the copperpot version, but the soundboard cut of it sounds beautiful on the bonus disk

Am I the only one who isn't impressed by this improv? I thought the same thing when they first played it. Kinda cool that they did it, but pretty boring and I'm not a fan of Dave's delivery. I'd much rather them put on something like If Only w/Roger, Fool To Think, Typical, or Stay on the disc.

Also YNK should've been from somewhere other than SPAC because Dave butchers the lyrics, and they should've picked LIOG, Say Goodbye, Warehouse, or The Stone to rep SPAC on the bonus disc (I know LIOG and Say Goodbye are on the DVD).

Seriously? He's singing about never seeing his dead friend again. He's screaming about it. And your brain interprets that as "pretty boring"? I feel sorry for you.

That's too bad. It reminds me of something from 2004 (Good Good Time/Gas Into Fire), especially the rawness of the delivery. I love it.

I love this improve and thought for sure I would get to see it in VA Beach when the electric come out because at that point they had played it before every WIA since the inception of the improv intro. Just plain old Why I Am. Oh well.

That was in reply to some fan girl defending every move the band makes. It has nothing to do with the performance of that improv. I've been saying its a highlight since it ended

I was there too... I was amazed by this too - I just assumed it was a new song and this was the first time it was being played fully. It gave me chills.

On another note... it also amazes me that they have a full album of new songs, yet put together and played this fantastic little jam on tour.

Sounds like you might've been close to where I was... I was just a couple-few rows behind the soundboard. I wish the WH would put me there every time... no better place for the sound quality.

The mix of this on the sampler is outstanding!

It's so true to the actual live sound.

As someone else also noted earlier, my only gripe with the sampler is You Never Know. ABSOLUTELY agree with the idea of including a YNK from 2012 on this disc, but seriously, THAT ONE? I was at SPAC for that, and it was my first-ever live YNK, and the ending is absolutely brutal. Dave completely fucked it up. They played that song so often this summer, it's downright shocking they picked that version.

But oh well, I still really like the disc. And the Mansfield Improv was absolutely awesome. Glad I got a chance to listen to it.
