you can definitely tailgate. i dont drink though, so i'm not usually one to tailgate, so i can't really comment on how it is compared to other places. its no campbells lot at camden, thats for sure, but from what i've seen, its pretty standard tailgating. dont be a douche and you'll be fine, like everywhere.
i dont recall seeing any masks, although i did see that red rocks is offering vaccinations on site. still at limited capacity right now, but i think they are going to 100% next week.
its super easy to get to. its about 2 miles off I70. theres 4 lots total, 2 north side and 2 south side, however, there is not always enough parking in the lots for everybody, so you may end up parking on the roads around the venue between the lots if you don't get there early enough. that can be quite the hike. it usually only takes about 15 minutes to get out of the lots and back to the main road, at least from the north lots. can't recall ever parking in the south lots.
i highly recommend making it to red rocks for a show. pretty much anything would be worth seeing there, just to say you were at a show there. umphreys puts on a hell of a show there every year.
for as much of a bucket list venue it is for us fans to see a show there, its as much of a bucket list venue for bands to play. several times i've been at shows where the performer said something about how special and unique red rocks is to play at. i saw halsey there for her badlands tour and she actually started to get choked up talking about how she had an image in her head about what "badlands" looks like (check the album cover) and couldn't believe that a place like red rocks actually exists.
