Re: Music Moments That Move You

There are allot but the ones that come to me first are:

DMB-Bartender 8-25-00, It was my first DMB concert and I was completely mesmerized by this song.

Starting at around 4:40 the last verse-chorus always gets me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEW8riKU_tE
Also The Great Below (see sig), lets just say NIN in general.

Tori Amos-Playboy Mommy, Waitress (live).

The Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer-Half Jack, Astronaut.

Eric Clapton-Tears in Heaven

David Byrne/Brian Eno-Life is long, It is guaranteed to make me happy every time.

There are way too many.

Thought of a few more in addition to my first post:

Counting Crows - Recovering the Satellites... the bridge (right term?) where he starts singing, "She sees shooting stars and comets' tails / she's got heaven in her eyes..." I've always loved those lines and the few that come after them. Really beautiful vocal and music to go along with them, too.

Smashing Pumpkins - Hummer and 1979

Pearl Jam - Off He Goes and Man of the Hour

    Ryan Adams - Friends

    Ben Folds/Five - Evaporated

In random order, with no band repeats (otherwise, I just could have put every Sigur Ros song)

    1. Porcupine Tree-Collapse Light Into Earth
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYpQFA70vOI

    2. Sigur Ros-Untitled 3 (Since most people went with 1 or 4, I figured I would be different. Probably my favorite album of all time)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ueuve...eature=related

    3. The Antlers-Wake
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH-jd5gYNIA

    4. Damien Rice-I Remember
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYPCYboEpmk

    5. Radiohead-Let Down
    No youtube clip needed.

    6. Devotchka-How It Ends
    http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...rch_type=&aq=f

    7. John Butler Trio-Ocean
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VAkOhXIsI0

    8. Mew-White Lips Kissed
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oJRYzSTNO4

    9. Sufjan Stevens-The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRW2g...eature=related

    10. Band of Horses-St. Augustine
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEGGCKF5OTA

A couple off the top of my head:

The Grateful Dead - Box of Rain
"It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago"
The recording of the song is amazing

The Grateful Dead - Unbroken Chain
"A slow winter day, a night like forever, sink like a stone, float like a feather"
Very thought-provoking lyric and very rich imagery can be drawn from it

Dave Matthews - Little Thing from Luther College
"Yeah, I'd wait. And I would recognize you in a second....."

Hmm...just off the top of my head

    Most anything by Sigur Rós
    The outro of "Ants Marching"
All of "Thunder Road", but mainly the outro
"Jungleland". Possibly the most epic song of all time
The creaking door and subsequent starting chords of Sufjan's "Concerning The UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois" (random I know but it hits me every time)
A lot of Ryan Adams, namely most of Heartbreaker, "Dear Chicago", "Elizabeth, You Were Born To Play That Part", "Like The Twilight", "Meadowlake Street", many more
"For Emma" and "Re: Stacks" by Bon Iver
All of Separation Sunday by The Hold Steady
"Going To California" and "That's The Way" by Zeppelin
"in My Life", "Let It Be", and the Abbey Road Suite by the Beatles

I'm sure there's a lot more, but those are the basics

Agree with some of the Sufjan mentioned already, and I'll add "John Wayne Gacy, Jr."... what a heart-wrenching song, and then the last line just hits you like a brick.

"And in my best behavior I am really just like him, look beneath the floorboards for the secrets I have hid."

"The Mistress Witch From McClure" is my favorite Sufjan tune, and the most heartfelt as well. That song is pure magic

    i mentioned it!!!

nah, just kidding. i totally agree though. that line is some of the most brutally, heartbreakingly, painfully honest writing i've ever heard in music. i mean....really? wow. i'm blown away every time.

i'd also say it's a pretty intense reflection on humankind as a whole...

Not too many albums can do this from start to finish but Van Morrisons Astral Weeks is one of those that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. If you have not listened to Van the Man, give this album a shot.

The end of Harry Hood, "you can feel good, feel good, good about the hood". Especially after I enjoyed the improv section. Also the last section of Fullfhead's Travels. Junta version is perfect.
