DMB Tapes on Craigslist

I'm pretty sure this is illegal/frowned upon, seeing how they're all fan recorded tapes, but I thought I'd post it just in case someone was interested. There's nothing really rare or anything and the majority of the tapes are probably on dreaming tree. I exchanged emails with the guy but I guess he doesn't want to just give them to me haha

This is a direct violation of the taping policy. You can't charge or pay for tapes. Period. You can Report him to Red Light if he doesn't take the listing down, but if you're still emailing him, I'd tell him so. Interesting to see Maxell XL-II 90s, though. That takes me back.

I don't see a problem with this if people are paying the price for the media. Of course, the going rate for a 15 year old used Maxell II is not all that much. He should just give these away though. Hell, I have a box of Maxell tapes somewhere, and even a few DATs that I could stand to get rid of.

While I don't agree that the seller should be selling tapers' tapes, I'm not sure there is really much that can be done about it, as it's perfectly legal to sell physical media (the Maxell tapes) to be re-recorded on.

And it probably doesn't matter either way, because I highly doubt that he'll be able to find a buyer.

It is 100% illegal anyway you look at it.

These type of things is why soundboard recordings were eventually banned . They stopped it to help keep people from selling shows like they were legal releases.

If he wants to sell it to his friend, fine, not much can be done. But he puts up online advertising it, that is just plane wrong and asking to be shut down.

I have e-mailed the guy and contact red light management as well.

this is true however, and I'm not a lawyer or legal expert, I'd assume it's legal to sell/buy BLANK media. I can't go grab my sister's Britney Spears cassettes and sell 'em as just the media, that's copyright infringement. I can run 'em past a magnet for a minute, delete the data, and then sell the blank tapes.

This is just silly and asinine though. I send my friends the links to the DL's all the time, and if they don't have internet or some shit I just bring it to 'em on a flash drive. So easy, I'd never buy a tape from my friend. Although, I suppose the nostalgia aspect of having the old shows on cassette could be a potential draw.

I meant that as if someone is selling someone else the tapes in their house, or another private place. Could be a friend, could be someone they just met, could be a brother, could be a talking goat. Nothing can stop stuff from happening behind closed doors without a warrant. So let's say someone is selling their live bootleg CDs/Tapes from their house to some random person, there is no way to really stop it.

You can get fined or receive jail time for copy-write infringement. If he takes it down, then nothing will happen. But if he refuses and sells it he is breaking the law, not just a rule, an actual law. then he most likely will be faced via legal action form Red Light Management.
