Easily the best movie in that trilogy.

    Production value > purpose

I put TROS over TLJ because the latter was so bad that my standards going into the former were so low that I basically turned off my brain and just enjoyed the ride.

Maybe in a vacuum TROS was actually worse, but in the context of my viewing sequence, it was better. I will never watch either again anyway

None of the new films were particularly good. I might actually prefer the prequel trilogy.

    Supremely overrated show.

Chuck dying gave it a chance to breathe, and it got better, but I remained more interested and entertained when they weren't telling Saul's story.

I mean, you think it's the greatest TV drama in history. I'd say you're more of an outlier than I am on this.

It's the 9th highest rated non-mini series drama of all time on IMDb. And it's part of the universe of the show that's ranked #1.

    So, nah.

I'm not going to say that the praise is undeserved in the slightest, but I'm interested in hearing takes once the hype has cooled.

BCS surpassed BrBa for me, both are excellent but I found Jimmy to be a more compelling protag than Walt, and in general I liked the watching the BCS characters more

Gonna use Super Troopers to sum it up best:

BCS/Saul's antics are cheeky and fun! BB/Walter's antics are cruel and tragic.

BB just had longer stretches where it was a slog/monotonous and had way too much uninteresting family drama. BCS seemed like a more polished version of it with better characters added.

Walter also was more of a one-dimensional character that just escalated in intensity throughout the series. Saul had way more depth and uncertainty to him.

That makes sense; I almost pushed back on even calling BCS a drama. It's more of a dark comedy.

When’s the last time you watched BrBa? I rewatched it semi-recently and while it is obviously an all-time great show, there is definitely some clunky dialogue and characters here and there… not a ton but enough to make me prefer BCS. I think they (Vince, Peter, and the rest of the writers) improved a lot between the two shows.

I think I also just prefer the filmmaking style of BCS. The handheld camerawork of BrBa (while I understood why they shot that way) is not always my cup of tea.

Not to take away anything from BrBa either… it is still absolutely in my top 3-5 shows of all time.

BCS is a better written show with much more depth. It’s just not as sexy as Breaking Bad.

Also, TLJ is the best SW movie ever.

To relate it back to the BrBa universe, it is fascinating to me that Rian Johnson directed two of the most divisive pieces of media in the 2010’s: TLJ and the Fly episode I love them both!

I rewatched Breaking Bad right before Season 6 Half 2 of BCS. Breaking Bad is unquestionably the better show and I don’t think it’s particularly close.

    My rank:

    Breaking Bad Season 4
    Breaking Bad Season 3
    Breaking Bad Season 5
    Better Call Saul Season 5
    Breaking Bad Season 2
    Better Call Saul Season 6
    Better Call Saul Season 3
    Breaking Bad Season 1
    Better Call Saul Season 4
    Better Call Saul Season 1
    Better Call Saul Season 2

BCS probably falls in my 6-10 range all time.

Agreed, however I don't think its overrated. Few things come to mind with this show.

    - BCS far exceeded my expectations which is why I think most of us give it so much praise.
    - BCS also rode the coattails of BB. Half the cast came from BB and already had developed characters and a head start on the storyline. Doesn't take away from how good BCS is - but if this was a brand new show and BB didn't exist, it wouldn't have been nearly as successful/popular.
    - I do find it hard to compare. I agree with you saying BCS is more like a dark comedy. Jimmy's character is a goofball most the time so its hard to take this show nearly as serious as BB. it really dumbs down the "drama" part of the show as opposed to BB where most of each episode is tense and edge of your seat drama.

Either way, the fact that BCS and BB are in the same sentence together is enough to prove that BCS is a legitimately top tier show and deserves as much respect as BB.

I think a lot of people do confuse the degree of difficulty for BCS, which was very, very, very high with overall quality, which it definitely has in spades but c'mon it's not as good as breaking bad (IMO).

Care to explain why the degree of difficulty was very high? I'm not trying to take away from good writing because the storyline is great, but a portion of BCS was already spelled out from BB. From the outside looking in, one could argue that BCS was easier to get to fruition

I would be curious to see how well BCS holds up on rewatch. I'll say that I was a little let down with BB on rewatch. It just didn't hold up as well for similar reasons that others have already mentioned. It's still excellent of course, so not trying to take anything away from it. I don't know what BCS would be like on rewatch. Watching it live I always thought it felt like it polished off some of BB's rough edges and showed that the writers had learned some things from making BB, but I think it also challenges the viewer a little more than BB did. That can sometimes work well, but also sometimes be a chore.
