In my over 20 years practicing criminal law, I have never observed a defendant refuse to stand and face the jury.

Any competent lawyer would tell their client that his fate is in the jury’s hands and they will watch everything he does.

Trump’s disrespect for the jury is unwise.

I’m against it because it fails at its only purpose - to serve as a deterrent to crimes that result in the penalty.

Fuck the death penalty. It’s the easy way out, it’s clearly not fool proof we have put innocent people to death, and it’s not a deterrent.


The only thing working in the death penalty’s favor is vengeance. Which, yeah, if someone killed one of my loved ones I’d want them dead too, but that shouldn’t be a govt policy.

I think 5% of people who are convicted are actually innocent so that is a reason too.
