Re: Ants Podcast: Episode 41 Discussion
love the show, great that someone is doing this 'weekly,' normal people get tired of hearing about DMB real fast, & I love hearing the opinions of knowledgeable fans.
Here's my view of the tour this year. I think the acoustic set is a nice thing. If the band is doing anything this year for 'hardcore' fans, it's the acoustic set. It's giving fans a chance to hear some D&T and Dave solos that you typically saw once a night, being played regularly. The downside of the 2 sets (for me) is the daylight. I like my DMB in the dark! Not a deal breaker but made for a different vibe. The other issue I have is the time restraint it puts on the rest of the show. The band hasn't been able to really jam out. The tunes were all used to hearing run 20+ min are cut down this year. Several shows this year have only 1 or 2 songs played over 10 min. So it feels like they're holding back here and there to get a few more songs in each night. To make up for that, DMB has put on some incredible performances of average songs. So Right from Chicago 7.4.14 was closer quality, Grey St. Burgettstown 6.28.14 best Ive heard in years. I think if you asked every person who saw a show this year if they liked the acoustic set, most would say "no." I like it, but not every year.
A note on Jimi Thing:
When Dave leaves it to the crowd to sing the first two verses and choruses, it's not so bad
A question of Shake me Like a Monkey:
After the traditional end of a show & a few faithful souls chant for "one more song," If the band came back out and and played Shake me, would it still suck as a closer??
(I think it closes/closed so many shows, is the fact they can play it so so fast it's an easy out where time is concern.?)
