Sadly enough, i wasted money on that piece of garbage. Bought it on my way out of Tallahassee on my way back to Orlando. Needless to say the cd ended up on the side of I-10 about 20 miles outside of Tallahassee.

It's any physical copy, any complete digital album and possibly any ten digital tracks. I know for a fact labels count ten digital tracks as an album, so if ten people buy ten FTWII's it counts as an album. However, I'm not sure if Nielsen still counts it that way officially. They may have stopped and it might just be a way for labels to boost their morale ha.

It's worth noting that a lot of people were forced to buy Stand Up, since RCA put that crazy encryption software on it. That one was nearly impossible to rip and share on the torrent sites. Big Whiskey has probably moved even more units than the numbers indicate, since the presale orders on Music Today don't count, as it's not registered with SoundScan to record its sales.

yeah, that is also true. anything sold from the bands site doesnt count, but there reason why: the number is very small. don't be thinking 100,000 people bought big whiskey from them...not even 50,000 and probably not even 10,000.

only the biggest fans buy online from the site to get the bonuses and stuff

For one, not all DMB fans share the idea that SU sucks.

    Ants opinion =/= Record sales

American Baby and Dreamgirl were pretty big hits, and given that it was the followup to Everyday and BS (ED was a huge commercial success, 750k sold in first week).

I became a fan when I first heard "The Space Between" on MTV, then I bought Everyday, and soon after Busted Stuff came out. Then I got Crash, UTTAD and finally BTCS.

(Still got the sticker on it http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5662/foto3v.jpg)

So, I had just bought 5 albums which shared one common factor: they were awesome! Now, what do I do when the 6th album come out? I buy it on the release day of course!

I didn't care much for Stand Up. I like AB (and intro) as well as Out Of My Hands, but rest is pretty subpar IMO. Now, it seems a lot of people a) disagreed with me and bought the record cause they liked it b) bought it cause of the 5 awesome albums before it.

    so did I.

I originally got a dual disc (what a bust those things were) but needed one with a normal top to go in my CD case in my car.

Many of my DMB friends that aren't so crazed like I am also really enjoy Stand Up. Like you, I enjoy a couple songs on the album, but for the most part, it's really not enjoyable to me.

And though you're right with American Baby being a big hit, I'm fairly certain Dreamgirl was not a big hit at all. The only thing that song had going for it (as far as people even knowing it existed) was Julia Roberts being in the music video. I'm not sure, but I don't believe it even hit the charts. But anyway, I digress...

Ehhh... I don't think record sales really count in the DMB community...

The fan base is so big that Dave could fart in an empty bucket, record it, package it, draw a picture of himself farting in a bucket, slap that picture on the album cover, ship some copies to Wal-Mart, and we'd all buy it the day it came out... The album would go platinum in about... 9 weeks.

That doesn't mean it wouldn't suck... Not as bad as SU... But it would still probably suck.

That doesn't mean it wouldn't suck... Not as bad as SU... But it would still probably suck.
The "loyal" fanbase (i.e., the ones who buy whatever dave releases) is a lot smaller than it used to be around the ED/BS years.

And once again, when you are talking "the DMB community", you actually mean Ants. So even though there are threads about single sales, record sales and platinum certifications, it doesn't matter much to them.

I don't think many fans care how much their favorite artists sell, as long as they release good music. The point of my post was, just because a lot of people on Ants think BW > SU, and people will get flamed for saying the opposite, it doesn't mean BW will sell more/faster than SU.

Threw my copy off the bridge in Blountstown. Kidding, but I definatly thought about it!
