Incredible. Just being able to watch them sit around and write.

Not in the documentary, just interesting - On the '66 world tour, they played the same 30 minute, 11 song setlist at every show. That blows my mind.

Just curious, why is that mind blowing? I thought most bands tend to play the same set every show.

I think it's the 30 minutes part. Imagine shelling out what today's equivalent of thousands of dollars would be to see this show, and it last just 30 minutes. That's how fucking cool the Beatles were.

wow. Just finished part 1. This is exactly what I wanted. I love the lack of narration, just their conversations and facial cues telling the 'story'.

I got chills when Ringo and George were watching Paul McCartney find the rhythm and lyrics to "Get Back."

What’s been super interesting so far is how many of the Abbey Road songs were being fleshed out during this recording session.

Agreed. Not only that, but some solo stuff as well.

I forget the timeline, Abbey Road was recorded after Let It Be, but released before it, right?

Correct. Let It Be was recorded in January ‘69, Abbey Road in June-August ‘69. Abbey Road was released in September ‘69, Let It Be in May ‘70, a month after the breakup was announced.

Finished the first episode today. It's very raw, musically. The whole thing feels so forced (the writing and rehearsing and doing the show) like they don't really want to do it but they don't really know what else to do; so they're just going through the motions. Episode 1 has the feel of the whole original Let It Be film, so I'm glad they are being consistent. I'm looking forward to episodes 2&3.

Also loving hearing the future solo tracks. Jealous Guy, All Things Must Pass, Another Day. What an album that would have made!

Seeing how John, George, and Ringo had to practice that song in two different recording sessions, it’s no wonder they broke up.

I mean, ultimately its why George left. He basically got tired of having to not only go over one of Paul's songs 200 times; but then when he tried to add his own parts, Paul either told him to stop noodling or to play the part Paul had in mind instead.

I love that part in the first episode where Paul is basically telling George to stop trying to figure out parts on the fly and George just shot back "oh so you have your bass part already figured out then?"

Watched up to Day 6 on my way home from Connecticut today. Fantastic footage. If I ever create an album, I want to call it "Morning, Lads." The Elvis impersonation is fantastic. Paul definitely ran the show with the 4. Love watching them flesh out songs, including playing LIB with Paul and the Piano. Just a really unique perspective with an inside glimpse into how these 4 with their respective parties (producers, Yoko, Linda, etc.) interacted with each other.

    The new documentary.

I'm a huge Beatles fan but I've only watched the original LIB probably three times in my life. It leaves me feeling so sad and depressed, its almost too much.

You'll probably see all the footage from the original film in the new one. Haven't seen the whole thing yet but it seems way less heavy than the original.

From what I’ve read, Peter Jackson didn’t reuse any footage from the old film unless there was no other shot to use for the scene. He wanted the old one to still stand on its own and not step on its toes.

I finished the third part today, the rooftop concert and accompanying footage was just simply incredible.

I'm about halfway through Part 2, this has been literally some of the coolest stuff I've ever watched in my entire life. It's like you're right there in the room with them. I'm totally awed and can't wait to finish the rest throughout the course of this week.

just as an FYI, a ticket to their 66 world tour cost like, 35-40 bucks in today's dollars ($5.75 in 1966 dollars).

Watched Part 1 last night, it was absolutely amazing. My wife is way less into the Beatles than I am, knows them probably about as well as an average 36 year old would, and she was also transfixed the entire time.

Halfway through ep2… love this. It’s definitely not for everyone and I could see people thinking it was boring. But it really captures what a band goes through when trying to come up with ideas, prepare for a gig, etc. The jamming, the babbling of lyrics while coming up with melodies, falling into covers, the girlfriend screaming into a mic while others play random noises… it’s got it all.

I finished the first episode and agree with all the great stuff everyone has said above.

I do have one sort of complaint... I need some sort of directors commentary or cliff notes because there is obviously so much subtext going strait over my head. There's years of historical background and years of musical releases that came after that are brewing in these sessions and there's just no way to appreciate any small percentage of it just by watching. For now I'm just going to enjoy as much as I can and hope some one somewhere is writing a book.

Got through Part 2 and had to take a break. It was a ton to process & I was getting overloaded.

I love when Billy Preston arrives. The change in the room is astonishing!
