Thought it was odd too. Wonder if they couldn't get on the list?

None of the stores around me got it but I scored one from Plaid Rooms.

Speaking of Plaid Rooms, I know they're a big store but damn, 100 copies of the new Dead release? This just seems disproportional.

Not totally vinyl related (although hopefully the new album will have a vinyl release) but Porcupine Tree is finally reforming next year and has a new album planned next summer. Hopefully a tour to follow. If you haven't seen PT live, go. Your ears will be blessed by the experience, Steve Wilson always has phenomenal live sound.

Not backreading to see if this was discussed, but MoFi's Couldn't Stand the Weather by Stevie Ray Vaughan bundle might be the best vinyl I have ever heard.

I need MoFi (or a comparably reliable pressing studio) to remaster Tracy Chapman's eponymous first album. One of my all-time favorites.

Honestly, I just bought an EU ‘88 pressing of her self titled, and it sounds REALLY nice.

yes, for whatever reason, og 1988 pressings of that tracy chapman record sound really fucking great. i don’t think it needs a remaster, either. i feel like that was a record you used to be able to find in the used bins fairly frequently and at a very cheap price. not anymore!

what we really need is a quality pressing of her never-on-vinyl new beginning album.

This new War On Drugs vinyl sounds great. But I really can’t stand the design of the thing. Super funky.

miles Davis and Charlie Parker releases for tomorrow are “RSD first”. Looks like the Davis might be a unique color. Is that the only difference? Anyone know details?

I don't see the Sun Ra release on the list anymore, guess maybe it was delayed. No need for me to wait in line tomorrow, everything else that looks interesting is RSD first and pressed in big quantities. I'll probably hit the shop after lunch and see whats left.

Only grabbing the Hendrix release. Think it has a 13,200 pressing, which is huge by all RSD standards but especially Hendrix. SHouldn't have any problem walking into a store this afternoon to grab or finding one online.

Didn't know they had an official list of delays, very helpful! Stubbs the Zombie too, I knew there was something besides the Sun Ra that I had liked on the list.

Went to the store right before lunch and picked up Magma, Thundercat, and Lana Del Rey. Good enough for now, may try to grab a Life Aquatic and the VA psych/funk comp down the road.

Hi all, I know nothing about vinyl but my wife and I want to get a setup going in our living room for casual listening. I figured this would be a good place to ask for recommendations! I don’t have a good enough ear to justify spending an arm and leg, but want a decent setup. Floyd47 recommended UTurn Orbit or the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (thank you!)

Any recommendations for speakers? Again just going in the living room so don’t need anything too wild. Anything else I need to buy? Ive been given a budget of $400 total, figured this weekend would be a good time to buy. Maybe some headphones too if budget allows. Is this a realistic budget for a decent noobie setup? Thank you!

Looks like Project Debut carbon might be out my budget unless I’m looking at the wrong one, so UTurn vs any other suggestions. Might be able to swing another $50-$100 if I ask nicely :-) Thanks!

For $400, and going with new components all around, this is what I’d suggest:

U-Turn Orbit Custom, keep all the base options except add the cue lift lever - $239: https://uturnaudio.com/products/orbit-custom

Art DJ PRE II Phono Preamp - $66: https://www.amazon.com/ART-DJPREII-P.../dp/B000AJR482

    Edifier R1280T Bookshelf Speakers - $99: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280.../dp/B016P9HJIA

If you can swing $50-$100 more in the budget, go for the Pluto separate pre-amp option with the U-Turn instead of grabbing the ART DJ PRE.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I saw UTurn also offers a built-in preamp, but you’re saying go with the Pluto separate preamp?

Also, my parents have a collection of old records that have been sitting in the attic for 30+ years. Do you think those are safe to play, or what should I look for when inspecting them before trying to play them? No idea what condition they’re in.

Yup, definitely go for a separate rather than the built in preamp. It’ll give you more options for upgrades down the road and potentially a bit better performance and less issues if something shorts out.

As long as the records are seriously warped and don’t have visible mold or aren’t completely filthy, they should be okay to play. They may not sound great depending on condition, but they shouldn’t cause any damage to gear.

You’ve been very helpful today, appreciate it! Leaning towards getting the exact setup you’ve recommended, gonna do some more reading/research and pull the trigger tomorrow or Monday.

Purchased! With a Cyber Monday deal I got $20 off the speakers. Added cue lever and Pluto separate pre-am to the turntable. All in $418. Exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks again, can’t wait for everything to arrive

Probably one of the hardest vinyl purchase decisions I've ever made. That $400 (after ship and flat-jam) is some serious cash. The sounds coming out of that weekend though almost made it a no brainer. Almost.

I purchased the Clifford Ball too.

Part of me wonders if Phish is testing the waters to see what they can get away with. They know their fanbase has a lot of custsys and they have good luck pushing merch. Wonder if there's something bigger potentially on the docket.

Nice! And welcome to the club. This is a great thread for general info, and guidance on purchasing, both equipment and "which version of my favorite album should i get" type questions.
