Bubba and Almirola are definitely the favorites for me on Sunday. Unfortunately, it's a track where anything can happen.

23XI is basically another Gibbs car, and MJ wouldn't allow any attempt of his to be mediocre. they're going to be fast. to me, their success comes down to 2 things:

1) how does the team as a whole handle the hiccups of being new? while they are essentially a Gibbs car, they still do have to have their team put it all together to get ready for the track, with guys who are probably all new to working together. they need to find their chemistry as a whole.

and 2) how much talent does bubba actually have? the last few years have been "talented driver in an underfunded car." he doesn't have any excuses any more. he's got the equipment, now its up to him to show what he can actually do. he doesn't necessarily need to win, but consistent top 5-10 finishes are needed. he can't finish mid-pack most of the season.

I don't put much stock in MJ being the catalyst for the teams success, I think he is nothing more than a business partner, a check essentially. Denny is the brains behind this operation and as much as I dislike the guy, I think he has the right mind for both talent and the competitive side of things. If JGR treats this team like Furniture Row in terms of how much help they are lending mixed with the sponsorship dollars Bubba has brought in, I think think this team has a legit shot at being great. Bubba just has to show his skill now that he has the ride like Spoot said.

I think Bubba definitely has the talent to succeed. Six truck wins and was fourth in Xifinity points in 2017 before Roush suspended operations. With that said, with a new team, I think something like 3-5 top fives, 10-12 top tens, and an average finish around 15th would be a very good first season.

Although they played it up a lot this past weekend, today is actually the 20th anniversary of the Intimidator's death. Crazy to think it's been that long. A lot of the people I watched the race with aren't alive today either. Getting ready to fire up the E60 special that aired on Sunday.

Ty Gibbs wins his first ever Xfinity Series start, becoming the 3rd youngest winner in series history behind Logano and Chase Elliott. Awesome race.

Back to back first time winners is pretty cool. Bell can certainly wheel it! Pretty bummed with Chase's result. Class of the field but several poor stops and a super stupid caution for light rain cost him the win.

Only the third time in NASCAR history that the first two races were won by first-time winners. It also happened in 1949 and 1950 -- the first two years of NASCAR's existence.

I didn't like that rain caution at all. It should be on each team to make a decision as to whether it's bad enough to warrant pitting there and clearly it wasn't. I hate to see Chase lose like that. But at the same time, I love watching Logano lose a late lead.

I don't think my heart can take many more of those types of losses.

Xfinity race was my favorite of the weekend, I really feel like they've hit the nail on the head the last couple of seasons in getting the Xfinity cars and package right.

As for the cup, with the updated schedule, we could be looking at a 2017 scenario where quality drivers are outside looking in on points due to the diversity in race winners. I believe we saw wins from Larson, Newman, Kahne, Stenhouse, Dillon, and Blaney most of which hadn't won in quite some time or won for the first time.

It'll be interesting for sure. Two drivers have already lost the ability to try to point their way in, although in reality it's probably only one less open spot because I was expecting Bell to perform well enough to make the playoffs this year. I don't think he's done winning either.

3 weeks in and about the only win I could have called between Xfinity/Cup was Cindric at Daytona.

Gragson plowing that lapped car was both terrible and hilarious in the Xfinity race.

Best part of the cup race was watching Reddick over the last 20 laps. I think he may be a better version of Larson and just needs the equipment to show it. I'd love to see him maybe steal a win at the dirt race since he didn't get Homestead.

as happy as i was to see byron win, i wish it was a 300 lap race so reddick would have had time to catch byron and see what that battle would have been like. although the cars get strung out after a while, there seemed to be good battles somewhere throughout the field the entire race.

and i was just reading up about the short track that california is going to become. really excited to see how that turns out. martinsville straights with tight but high banked corners, should be pretty interesting. about time they added a new short track.

As a Logano fan, Bristol Dirt was not the race I imagined getting a win at this year. I'll absolutely take it.

I liked the experiment, but maybe find a dirt track and replace one of the more mediocre races, rather than killing off one of the Bristol races.

I'd also rather have them run at a regular dirt track than continue to steal a normal race from one of the best tracks on the circuit, but I don't know that there's a dirt track out there than can realistically host a Cup race from a logistical standpoint.

I only worked half a day as is tradition for rain delayed races. This one will always stand out though. Such a surreal moment.

Also happy that I was the only one with him on my fantasy team, even though TJ expanded this points lead.

The B drivers are hard to pick from. Outside of Kyle and Kurt, it's like you're choosing who is going to finish 12-25th. I only have one use left of each Busch brother. I'm golden with my A drivers though.

I'd like to play you guys in NASCAR.com's Fantasy Live next year. That's where my attention lies. I was primarily so successful with the group game in the past because I mapped out my starts months in advance. Now I just set something on Monday without much thought and roll with it.

I finished 20th in the world on Fantasy Live last year. I'm hanging around 2,000th this year, but I'm hoping to crack the top 1,000 before the season is out.

Went to the race today at Martinsville. Wound up being one of the best races I have been to in years. Maybe a top 5 all time (although I have been going to races since 1992 so I am sure there are others in there). No matter what, I will definitely keep going back to the fall race there. Such a great time in a beautiful area with great racing.

Fall Martinsville has been on my bucket list for quite some time. I can't think of any Fall races since I started watching that haven't been chaos to some degree. The Truex/Logano finish from a few years back may be one of my favorite of all time, that's very bias of course.

That was the last NASCAR race I attended. Before that my last race was the Bristol night race in 2014. Logano won it too. I told myself that if he was going to win every race I attended then I was going to stop attending races.

My first Martinsville race was the 2019 Spring race that Brad K lead almost every lap to win. That left a bad taste. Yesterday totally made up for it though.

For years Dover was my only race of the year (basically between 2012-2015), between 1996-2011 Daytona and Dover were it, and it was pretty much the Johnson show in the #48. I didn't go to a race for almost 4 years as a result haha.
