Instead of having bible readings or anything like that at the wedding, we're having people stand and say lyrics we're picking out from songs.

So far we're using lyrics from Captain (Gorge 02), #40 (SPAC 08), I'll Back You Up, possibly Snow Outside, Awake My Soul by Mumford, and I'll Cover You from RENT.

Very cool idea! (I have no idea why I'm spending so much time in this thread..)

Sorry. Totally a jerk thing to do. It's one of his worst songs, IMHO. Maybe try forever my friend? Cool tempo and would be super fun to dace to

Trust me, I like the song, but don't want it to be our wedding song. We are still thinking it over, but this is the only one we can agree on at the moment. "Our" song is really Crush, but that is way too long of a song to dance to.

Anyone have any ideas on how to shorten it up?

I think there is a radio edit version of it...

Me and the Mrs. danced to Let It Be Me by Ray in December. You really can't go wrong with Ray though, regardless of any snarky replies you get here.

Just have your DJ fade the song out at the conclusion of your dance.

Your first dance doesn't need to be more than 2-3 mins. Unless you're a crazy good dancer, people aren't going to pay attention much beyond that anyway.

My fiancee and I took lessons at the local dance studio, they charged us $100 for 3, 50 minute private lessons. We gave them our song of choice (full song is like 5:29) and they tought us a choreographed routine that lasted about 2 1/2 mins. Just alert your DJ to whatever the final step in the dance is (ours was just me dipping her) and have him fade the song out at that point.

If Crush is your song, use it! There's no rule that says you have to play the entire thing.

I'd recommend getting a photobooth at your reception. That thing was a fucking hit at our wedding and we made a cool book out of everyone's pictures.

Remember guys, no one but your bride will remember the small details. They'll remember if it was fun, if the food was good and if the drinks are free. Focus on those things.

I would too, as there are at least two owners of the biggest photo booth company in the country on this site.

We are planning on doing this. We have been to a few wedding where they have it, and they are a lot of fun.

The company we are getting ours through does a scrapbook right next to the photobooth. So after ppl take their picture, they put it in the scrapbook and the guests sign something under it (they also get a pic for themselves). This was done at our friends wedding and it was a very cool idea.

Zero chance I will end up having one of these. I view it as one of those completely unnecessary expenses that people take on to have "the coolest wedding ever!!!!!!"

    Our first dance (I think, working hard on convincing the Mrs. that this is the right choice) Neither of us really 'want' to do a first dance so-to-speak. I mean, we do, but we want it short and sweet at the beginning of dinner;

My goal won't be to plan a wedding that the guests remember. It will be to plan the day that me and the bride want.

Everyone is going to tell you "Oh you HAVE to do xxxx..." or "Don't do xxxx, it's a waste of money." But as UNC41 said, this day is about YOU. Make it the day that you and your future wife/husband want. You're going to get a lot of 'advice' from people about what they did at THEIR weddings -accept it and be polite, but plan the wedding YOU want to have!

Then you'd be better off just doing it for the two you. Be a hell of a lot cheaper. If the wedding isn't fun and memorable, guests leave, it gets lame. Not sayin yours won't be fun, but I've been to hundreds of these things over the last three years, I've got a good pulse on what works and what doesn't. But by all means, spend hundreds of dollars on place settings and centerpieces that no one will even notice except for your wife and the florist who did them.

I do and another user owns another location of the same company, feel free to pm any questions or whatnot, got no problem helping you if you're on the fence about it, even if you didn't use my specific company, it's always a big hit with the guests.

Believe it or not, it is possible to have fun at a wedding without a photobooth. I have done it plenty of times. I am amazed that you were able to figure out my settings and centerpieces budget for a wedding that won't start it's planning until March at the earliest.

Did you guys know that it's literally IMPOSSIBLE to have a fun wedding without silk chair covers? True story. If you don't have them, your guests will hate you.

On a completely unrelated note, I just happen to sell silk chair covers! PM me!

I know photo booths aren't the exclusive means of fun at a wedding, but in my experience (which is admittedly biased and skewed), they almost always add to the fun, and I've never been to a wedding with one where at least one person doesn't tell me how much fun it is.

As to your centerpiece budget, I don't know yours, but I know the industry. I know the average wedding costs 27k and I know what my vendor friends that do centerpieces charge. Maybe your centerpieces are coloring books and crayons, possible, but highly doubtful. Though I'm sure that would be more memorable and fun than whatever you pick, and that's not a knock on you or what you pick, just the simple fact that no one knows or remembers that crap.

It's cool though, you've been to your friends weddings and read some articles on the knot, I'm sure you know what you're doing.

There is no way 27k will be spent. Both of us believe there are much better uses for money than wasting it on a single day. I'll go ahead and make the joke about us serving ramen so you don't have to. No need to be so defensive because someone thinks your business is frivolous and unnecessary. I'm going to drop the discussion, as it is distracting from others discussing what they want to do.

On a completely unrelated note, I just happen to sell silk chair covers! PM me!
I guess you missed the part where I advocated for food and an open bar (an area a lot of couples try to skimp on). It isn't about photo booths, it's a party and the best parties are fun. Anything that adds to the fun, dj, booze, candy bar, whatever is good. Spending time, energy and money on the tiny details few notice doesn't add to the fun.

If you don't want a photo booth because you think it's tacky or cliche or whatever, fine. But I would highly recommend finding as many things to keep your guests entertained.

Gonna cut/skimp on other items just so I can have a band. I hate DJs
