He also wrote the book The Beach that the Leo DiCaprio movie was based on. Very good book. Lousy flick.

Mray - thanks for the info. Didn't know that about 'The Beach' - I'll have to get a copy of the book (never saw the movie)

dmb1spe - "Curious Incident..." is on my list too... You'll have to let me know what you think.

I have an autistic brother so I'm wary of books dealing with autism. Most times the entire thing is misinterpreted or misrepresented.

    Ditto. I've heard mixed reviews.

I finished Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Macguire (HIGHLY recommended) this weekend, along with a Jane Austen binge, so I'm hunting around for something new.

Isn't Wicked great? His second book "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" is also good. It's a different point of view on a Cinderella-type story. His third book ("Lost") didn't do much for me, though.

I'm reading "The Royal Road to Romance" by Richard Halliburton.

It is great, this guy Halliburton in the 20's travels the world with nothing. It is a travel narrative and it is a lot of fun, I suggest you try it.

I can't believe how much I liked Wicked. I've been singing its praises to everyone I know. I'm thinking about picking up Confessions next.

"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom....for at least the 25th time....every time i'm in a bad mood, or feel like i'm behind in life, i page through this book and i always walk away in a much better mood...knowing that i can not take anything for granted and that life is too short to let what i call "stupid shit" hold me down.

I just read The Last Juror by John Grisham, at the beach last week. It was alright. I also read Generation: Kill, by Evan Wright, he was the guy who had the three peice excerpts listed in Rolling Stone last year. The book was great if you are looking for a first hand account of what it was like during to the first few weeks of the war, from a soldier's perspective.

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, and I gotta say...it's getting old. It's basically a romance novel masquerading as literature. Wouldn't recommend it unless you've got about six months to kill.
