Feb 2000 = the month my life changed a friend played me this album and WOW, I subsequently found everything DMB related but this is still the kicker for me - those blue and yellow colours get me all sorts of excited!!

one of my favorite releases still. it has so many songs that are my favorite d&t versions. ants, say goodbye, warehouse, billies, halloween, seek up, wwys, osw, minarets. all the rest, while maybe not my favorites, are very close.

Billies is sick on Luther. Dave's intonation is more like on Crash than it is now. He sings it happier than he does now, it takes me straight to the beach!

If we had the same musicians and songs now as we did on Luther College, I would still be a huge fan and travel to see several shows a year. The current DMB does almost nothing for me, and when they do play those older tunes, it's a far departure from what they used to sound like. I understand change is inevitable, and if I was playing the same songs for 20 year, I would need to change things up too. But the way those songs were performed that tour ...man, it just doesn't get better.

If anyone has any good quality copies of any of the shows from the '96 tour that haven't been released so far (Luther and LT23) - I would be really interesting in hearing them!

Yep, quite aware. Guess I misrepresented my feelings and thoughts.

I wish Dave and Tim played in the same manner they did back in the mid to late 90's when doing acoustic shows, and the same for the way the entire DMB is for full band shows.

Adding a trumpet is one thing. But the whole band sounds completely different now, and songs that I used to love - I wouldn't even want to hear live anymore, because they barely even resemble what they used to be.

Of course that's probably why I haven't paid for a ticket to go see them in 8 or 9 years.

But like I said in my previous post, I fully understand the change that bands go through. I fully understand them getting burned out on stuff that's been around for 15 to 20 years. I fully understand them wanting to branch into a completely different sound, just to stay fresh in their own heads.

That band from the mid 90's to the early 00's was one of my favorite bands, and those songs performed as they were back then (minus the terrible ladies) were some of my favorite songs. And Dave & Tim shows from the mid to late 90's are still some of my favorite shows to listen to and remember. But even Dave & Tim shows these days are a completely different animal ...and not from a zoo that I care to visit.

    Oh well. End rant.

Lover Lay Down and Cry Freedom are just pure bliss on this release!!! I remember the year it was released Jan of 99 and I didnt buy the album until June. That immediately became the summer album of that year between all my friends and I... Bonfires and double D batteries powering a boombox during summer camp trips Always holds great memories

Been listening to this ALOT lately. IMO this and Red Rocks '95 are the essential 90's DMB live albums. So perfect. I love getting lost in the music of old school DMB. (Flood Zone 93, Live Trax 20, etc.)

Luther is my favorite d&t by far. I saw a twitter poll that had radio city ahead by a wide margin. While it is good, it is no Luther. One sweet world kills!

It's the same story for me. I had Crash and listened to Two Step alot but the rest of the album got played every once in awhile. After I listened to these two albums I really got into the band. I appreciated Dave's unique guitar style and Tim's virtuosity. The thing I like about RCMH and Vegas are the inclusion of new songs, but out of the early stuff, nothing tops those performances.

Yup. This was "the" album that did it for me too. It just hooked me in such a powerful way. The blue/yellow cd's, the plain (but cool) cd cover, the amazing sounds coming out of every song.....just amazing.

This was unquestionably the album that took me from a "fan" to a fanatic.

Have to disagree there. Love that version. The end jam got me to start learning dmb on guitar, then got me into dmb all together.

Like a lot of people here, Luther went a long way in getting me hooked. My first show was Dave & Friends in Oakland. Next morning stopped at Best Buy before the 5-hour drive home and bought Luther. Listened to it the whole way back to Humboldt.
