I ran a loop from the Hilton Garden Inn up Belmont St past Bell Pond. I think that was the hardest hill I've ever run up and I've been in some mountains before. I thought the women at the hotel was trying to kill me.

What's the point of a virtual race other than giving yourself a reason to run?

You end up running the race wherever you want by yourself, right? As a founding member of the savvy consumer club I can't justify paying for that.

In other news, I'm starting to look for road races mid may and later. Would have loved to do a half over memorial day weekend but the closest one is like 2 hours away.

I’ve been thinking about doing a virtual half...I am just not sure how I find a continuous route long enough where I won’t hit multiple intersections and potentially have to stop running and wait.

For those of you doing virtual races, how do you handle that? Do you just pause your run at stoplights? Or drive to a place where you’ll have a continuous route?

Also, do you stop on the exact mileage or do you go a little extra to mimic a regular race? In all the 1/2s I’ve run, I always ended at like 13.25 miles on my watch.

I’m gonna try to find a race or two this fall. I might try to do this one in Indy: https://monumentalmarathon.com/

It was my first ever half. Really flat course.

external motivation. this is really the only virtual marathon that has my interest, because the boston marathon is the marathon of all marathons in the running community. now it being virtual of course does not make it close to the same thing nor will it taste nearly as sweet as the real thing, but it's still a weird unique opportunity that would be fun to be a part of. especially when you have failed to qualify to get into the real thing for the past 7 years

maybe instead I’ll train hard for a half for this fall, which will put me in good shape to start my marathon training over the winter for Big Sur next april

not many in person races open right now, but I think we’ll see more announcements this summer . at the very least there is cape cod half/full on Halloween

Nice! I grew up on the Burncoat side of town. They've done so much in all of Worcester the past 5 years, it's really coming together. It gets a bad rep but I love it.

Decided I would start a goal of 100 miles for the month of April; trying to just stick to my meal prep too; only drinking water (and the occasional sugar-free Gatorade for electrolytes); throwing in a couple small workouts a week too on top of the running. Need to get my body ready for this summer lol

6.6 miles down, 93.4 to go!

nice job! I'm going to try to get to 80 miles this month. Which is 26 more than I've ever done in a month!

    you got this!

Maudslay State Park is a beautiful area. And dog friendly!

We took the dog to Newburyport last weekend for her big “see how she does around people/distractions” test and she was great. Did about two miles around down town and the river walk area.

I'm trying to not run the route twice this year. There's enough neighborhoods to do it. The hardest part is keeping track of it.

    Cranked out 7:32, 7:43, 7:28, and 7:07 today

The women's XC team at the small university in town won the national title yesterday. I know the coaches pretty well (I used to coach basketball there) and see the teams training around the neighborhood a lot.

I’m so slow. “Running” 15 minute miles in formation with the group at school has done nothing for my fitness.

Ran 1.5mi on Friday in 14:02

Had a good one yesterday. Went to this crushed limestone trail for 5 miles. At the turn around, I had two runners go past and I waited a minute or so and then tried to catch them. Caught the first one after 1.25 miles and caught the other one at around 1.75.

Just a heads up in case you are unfamiliar, about 15 minutes south of Maudslay gives you Willowdale, Bradley Palmer and Appleton which are all close enough to combine in single runs. It's the best trail running in the north shore and between the three stretches on forever. They hold a "Fat Ass 50k" in Bradley Palmer in the winter, fun low key race that I've joined in the past but never went past 20 miles.

They hold a "Fat Ass 50k" in Bradley Palmer in the winter, fun low key race that I've joined in the past but never went past 20 miles.
haha. i ran that race once!! it was a lot of fun. i just did one loop (just over 6 miles). my friends dad does the 50k each year. i think i'm running the pemi loop (the 30 mile white mountain run) with those two this summer, along with a few others. trail runners are a completely different breed...superhumans with no concept of pain

[QUOTE=laura22;17936210]haha, love it. no hamstring pain still?
i haven't had pain in a few weeks, feeling good about increasing the mileage this week
    /QUOTE]

It wasn't sore this week. I'm cautiously optimistic. I backed up Saturday's run with 6 at a 7:49 pace yesterday. I'm currently following this schedule:
    Sunday 6
    Monday off
    Tuesday 4
    Wednesday 3
    Thursday 4
    Friday off
    Saturday 4 or 5

It's 21 miles a week. I need to stay healthy at least through May 15rh. Signed up for a really hilly 5k.

Glad you've been feeling better. Hopefully it stays that way.
