I really think it's some sort of pirate treasure, and whomever put it there made sure that it would be impossible to get out unless you knew the back way in... and clearly no one knows the back way in.

because the sea comes sweeping in. You have to build a wall around the island, and then dig the whole thing out. It'd cost around $12 M to do.

If the sea has been sweeping in for 400 years, whatever was there, if anything, has long since been destroyed.

Brad Meltzer's Decoded pretty much solved the D.B. Cooper mystery. It was a male flight attendant. He was laid off, pulled the heist and lived out his life. I believe it was his brother who sold him out (after he died).

Also, "D.B. Cooper" was a comic book about a skydiver. The flight attendant was a big comic guy.

I remember seeing a clip on the Bunny man on a travel channel show a few years back. While I really don't believe any of the tales that fall more on the "haunting" side of things, I still love watching / reading about them. I will admit @ times my imagination will get the best of me (though I have experienced some weird, unexplainable (to me) things that help it along!

Last night, I was watching Monday's Off Limits and he was visiting a gold mine near the Superstition Mountains, home of the 'Lost Dutchman Gold Mine.' I'm pretty sure I remember that also being a segment on Unsolved Mysteries back in the day.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Du...%27s_Gold_Mine

I love urban / local legends.

Yeah, I saw that. They even found where he likely stashed some of the money.

What I find convincing about the pit is just the fact that someone bothered to dig it in the first place. They put a piece of paper with "V I" on it, they put a stone tablet with markings on it in there (despite the controversy over what is actually written on the stone). There has to have been something in there at some point.

    Regarding Oak Island's Money Pit;

Couldn't they just use this technique to keep the pit from flooding?

I dont find that very convincing.

None of the D.B. Cooper money ever made it back to circulation.

Additionally, he had 2 chutes; 1 was a practice chute that did not open. So either the money or Cooper went straight down.

So let's say he was wearing the good chute, and still had some cash on him. Where did he land? Odds are in a body if water. At night. The water temp was around 50. He had no wet suit.

Very likely that D.B. Cooper died shortly after jumping.

    Audio on right is interesting

Shortwave Numbers Stations are a perfect method of anonymous, one way communication. Spies located anywhere in the world can be communicated to by their masters via small, locally available, and unmodified Shortwave receivers. The encryption system used by Numbers Stations, known as a one time pad is unbreakable. Combine this with the fact that it is almost impossible to track down the message recipients once they are inserted into the enemy country, it becomes clear just how powerful the Numbers Station system is.

Why is it that in over 30 years, the phenomenon of Numbers Stations has gone almost totally unreported? What are the agencies behind the Numbers Stations, and why are the eastern European stations still on the air? Why does the Czech republic operate a Numbers Station 24 hours a day? How is it that Numbers Stations are allowed to interfere with essential radio services like air traffic control and shipping without having to answer to anybody? Why does the Swedish Rhapsody Numbers Station use a small girls voice?

On 26 May 1828, a teenage boy appeared in the streets of Nuremberg, Germany. He carried a letter with him addressed to the captain of the 4th squadron of the 6th cavalry regiment, Captain von Wessenig. Its heading read: Von der Bäierischen Gränz / daß Orte ist unbenant / 1828 ("From the Bavarian border / The place is unnamed [sic] / 1828"). The anonymous author said that the boy had been given into his custody, as an infant, on 7 October 1812, and that he had instructed him in reading, writing and the Christian religion, but had never let him "take a single step out of my house". The letter stated that the boy would now like to be a cavalryman "as his father was", and invited the captain to either take him in or hang him.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumapunku

Pumapunka in Bolivia is an interesting one that was on Ancient Aliens. Long story short, it's agreed they were a society with no written language or math skills. Yet they somehow figured out how to move 130 ton blocks of granite (with llama skin ropes) and cut precise lines and designs with friction from rope and sand --- something only possible today with diamond tip machine tools.

    May Day Mystery
Every May 1st since 1981, a cryptic ad has been placed in the Arizona Daily Wildcat.

    The Bizarre:
At first glance they are just gibberish, but analysis by fans has revealed that they seem to be laying out a story that involves The Orphanage, a secret society that is placing the ads, that wants to give away The Prize, which is a reward that is in a safe deposit box for whoever solves the mystery. The Orphanage transports White Rabbit/Wonder Bread, which are unknown items, and seem to have some obsession with Martin Luther because his image appears on a lot of the ads.

Here's a link to all the ads which are pretty weird to try and read.

    Quote:
The conjecture then alleges that the equipment was not properly re-calibrated, but in spite of this, the experiment was repeated on October 28, 1943. This time, the Eldridge not only became invisible, but she physically vanished from the area in a flash of blue light and teleported to Norfolk, Virginia, over 200 miles (320 km) away. It is claimed that the Eldridge sat for some time in full view of men aboard the ship SS Andrew Furuseth, whereupon the Eldridge vanished from their sight, and then reappeared in Philadelphia at the site it had originally occupied. It was also said that the warship traveled back in time for about 10 seconds.

Many versions of the tale include descriptions of serious side effects for the crew. Some crew members were said to have been physically fused to bulkheads, while others suffered from mental disorders, and still others supposedly simply vanished. It is also claimed that the ship's crew may have been subjected to brainwashing, in order to maintain the secrecy of the experiment.

The Lead Masks Case was the name given to the events which led to the death of two Brazilian electronic technicians: Manoel Pereira da Cruz and Miguel José Viana. Their bodies were discovered on August 20, 1966.

The bodies were next to each other, slightly covered by grass. They were wearing suits, lead masks and water-proof coats. There was no sign of violence to the bodies or to the surrounding area. Next to the bodies, the police found an empty bottle of water and a packet containing two towels.

That's pretty odd, though a bit much to just sit and read. We need a movie about it involving Nicolas Cage.
