Re: Samurai Cop

Very nice version.

This has reassured me why Tim Reynolds needs to go and the piano needs to be brought back.

EDIT- Though I must say, I enjoy this song no matter how it is played. Electric, solo, D&T, or this way.

This is incredibly beautiful. Agree there hasn't been a bad version yet though. Hoping this is the treatment the song gets in the studio. Kind of a peek at what Dave might become without the band...

You say that, but then every song is going to sound like this. It would be nice if there was a balance for sure though.

Using this song for background to a video for my nephews 1st birthday. Agree this song works for that occasion? Also, thoughts on the best version? Having a hard time between D&T and full band!

I love the Charlottesville version from last year (5.7.16). Definitely the most powerful version of the song.

This song was recently registered for copyright on ASCAP as "Samurai Cop (Joy Begins)" (see attached screenshot).

I'm still dying for a studio cut of this song. Although, I still prefer the Charlottesville version of the song with the horn line after each chorus - it makes the energy/momentum of the song SO much more powerful. Regardless, just imagine how big of a hit this could be if it were released as a single...

My wife and I were looking for a movie to watch on Amazon the other night and I was rather surprised to see Samurai Cop pop up. I think it was under comedies, but I can't remember. Of course I perked right up, but I had to wonder if DMB's use of the title sparked more interest in the movie and led to it being added, because I have never seen it on Amazon before, nor have I even heard of the movie until last summer. Or it was just coincidence. Anyway, just got a kick out of seeing it and may actually check it out at some point for a laugh.

The more you listen to this song, the better it gets. Deer Creek 2016 is a good listen for this one.

I can't get it out of my head lately. I play it every time I pick up the guitar. I'll check the DC version out. My favorite is Mansfield 2016. It's a good mix of everyone, including Boyd, and it's well played.

Rolling Stone describes Samurai Cop as "an understated plea for compassion and tolerance." I always perceived the song as being an ode to birth and youth, but I guess I see where they're getting it from.

That's a stretch, Rolling Stone. So is saying the song pushed his voice from "a growling low" register to a piercing falsetto. The latter, yes.
