SPAC has only gotten one night before and DC sets are better or even with SPAC sets.

Not sure what town he's talking about near SPAC, but I'm sure it doesn't compare to Indianapolis as far as being a real city.

Over 10,000 people camp for DC. So there is not much tailgating. . .its just one long party. Like a mini-gorge.

I’ve come from Pennsylvania to Deer Creek the last two tours. Indianapolis is a very cool town. Museums, breweries, nice food scene, easy to navigate, and the people are chill. And the shows did not disappoint. Not on the level of gorge (I haven’t been to SPAC) but its definitely a vacation opportunity imo.

Gorge definitely is the answer. Seattle is a great town. Do the shows and then drive back to Seattle and spend a few days there.

Disagree. It depends on the kind of vacation you want, but traveling to cities like Indianapolis is awesome.

No, but Chicago blows Saratoga NY, Indy or Quincy WA out of the water for the vacation part. Seattle is equivalent to Chicago as far as the cities go.

OP - If you decide on the Gorge don't skip N3. You'll regret it.

This summer went to Niagara Falls and some of the LDS Church history sites in NY. SPAC and Canandaigua were in the same week but didn't fit into my schedule. I did get to see a sick show in Mansfield this year tho!

If Jones Beach was two nights again, I would say take a trip to the Big Apple. Gorge seems like the best answer

depends on what kind of vacation you want besides the shows. if you want the beach vacation that isn't mexico, do WPB. if you are into american history, go to camden and spend some time in philly (washington DC and NYC are only a couple hours in either direction as well). if you want to camp and just enjoy nature, go to the gorge. SPAC is an amazing venue, but you're in the middle of nowhere upstate NY with not much else around. other venues are great as well, but if you're looking for more than just the shows, idk how much places like milwaukee and indianapolis offer.

Saratoga isn't exactly the middle of nowhere and SPAC is a horrible venue if you are on the lawn, seats are great

Great views of the Philly skyline right on the Delaware River...what could possibly go wrong?

Also, SPAC is great and in a beautiful area of NY State. That said, go to Gorge if you can only do one.

so you guys are aware that camden is directly across the river from philadelphia, right? nation's first capital, tons of history. if you're into that sort of thing, the camden shows are a great choice. its not like anybody actually stays in camden for the shows. i dont see how this is so hard to understand.

so what exactly is SPAC close to then? saratoga itself is a small town. albany is nothing to write home about. is schenectady a selling point here? some people want to be away from everything, which would be great for going to SPAC. but other than sitting by a lake somewhere or wandering around small towns, there's not much in that neck of the woods.

Aside from being ranked as one of the best small cities in America with endless restaurants, shops, horse racing, golf, parks, museums, lake George to the north, a bigger City to the south, Ballsfest for DMB weekend, and always some of the best shows of the tour at SPAC I guess your middle of nowhere definition holds up. I feel like if most people were in what they consider to be the middle of nowhere and then in Saratoga they wouldn't consider the two the same.

I've been chasing Last Stop for 20 years and have been to two shows where it's been on the setlist and I've gotten hosed, one when Roi was still alive (C'Ville '06 N2) and one on the 2010 Fall Tour (Buffalo) - Trenchcoat guy screwed one of them and the crowd screwed the other with their stupid Halloween chant.

I got to SPAC every year I can and have attended all but two years since '04, you'd figure in 2015 with Bela Fleck in residence they'd have done it then and it would have been the first time played at SPAC since '98, but nope...they did it the next year.

    Screw SPAC, do Gorge.

It was a decent show, got SMLAM out of the way early and what a killer way to open a show with Minarets > Seek Up; I was probably 10th row or so stage right where Monk's replacement comes out from and got to watch Dave come towards the side of the stage to where he was waiting with the 12-string, having watched him tune it and being absolutely fucking jacked we were gonna get Last Stop, then Dave waved him off.

It's the only time I've been disappointed to get Halloween!

Not sure about this... NYC is a great vacation for those who haven't been there, but trying to get from Manhattan to Jones Beach is terrible.

OP - I'm originally from Utah...it pains me to see that DMB has all but abandoned USANA Amp!

As far as a vacation coinciding with a multi-night stand, I've done Gorge, Deer Creek, and Camden. While Gorge was (for me) probably the best in terms of overall vacation + show experience, I'd have to say that Camden is 2nd because of all the things you can do during the day in Philadelphia (convenient AirBnBs in Philly, too). Deer Creek was a good show experience, and maybe if I had camped there it could've been a better "vacation" as well...but as it was I just drove back down the freeway to my hotel after each show. The location of Deer Creek kinda reminded me of USANA, how they're both on the outskirts of town.

IMO there is no place better to be outside and listen to music than the Gorge. There is really no way to explain it, by pictures or comments, you just have to experience it. Can’t speak for SPAC as I’ve never been. Those that have been to both pretty resoundingly say the Gorge is a must do. Been since 99, missing two shows there since, and won’t miss another one as long as they play it.

SPAC is dope if you can get a ticket inside at face value or slightly above. But not worth it for lawn or a seat over 300 plus. Never been but I’d like to know what people think about Gilford NH. They have had solid 2 night stands and like SPAC very intimate setup.
