DMB inherited Grateful Dead's old sounsystem?

I was just looking at some of the desriptions for the trax series and i was looking at vol.4 and in the description it says,4.30.1996 Classic Amphitheatre, Richmond, VA was the show that started the Crash tour. In addition to hearing many new songs for the first time, fans in attendance were the first to hear the new sound system which DMB had recently inherited from the Grateful Dead. This sound system helped to take DMB’s live show experience to the next level. The Richmond show was also the show that marks the introduction of multi-track recording on tour.

anyone have any information on exactly how or why they "inherited" their sound system? I love finding out new things about the band and random facts like this especially interest me.

Maby i'm just a little too superstitious, but after the Grateful Dead had the tour from hell in 95' (Deer Creek for example) and Jerry dying, I would have believed it was cursed at the time. luckily it worked out pretty good for DMB haha

i think i remember from one of my friends telling me, hes a big Dead fan, he said that Jerry loved dave and the rest of the band so much that he wished for them to have it if anything were ever to happen to the Grateful Dead.

The two black mats that Dave stands on (they are triggers that turn his mic on and off) were originally from The Grateful Dead. I believe I read somewhere that the names from the former band are still on the bottom of the mats.

It's true. I know that in 2000, Dave was using Jerry's microphone...I would love to share that story, because it is tres cool, but you all wouldn't believe me anyways. But, yeah, totally true.

Coran Capshaw is a HUGE Deadhead.. He's been to over dead 200 shows and that is how they got some of the sound system...

Edit: and yes, once they purchased some of the speakers etc, there live show/sound was much better...

    my additional 2cents...
Dan Healy, a long-time G.Dead soundman (replaced in 1994) toured with the DMB starting I think at the UNLV shows in May 1995 teaching the DMB sound-guys what he knows.

Man, I FINALLY know now the reason for those (rubber?) mats! Thanks for the info!

That's actually pretty clever, I had never heard of microphones that switch on/off depending whether you're standing on mats.

The Grateful Dead's sound system was notorious - it was called "The Wall of Sound".

Is that the system you're talking about? I didnt knew DMB 'inherited' it, but here is a link about the wall of sound - it doesnt mention DMB, but def a possibility nonetheless.

DMB definently did NOT inherit the wall of sound. (That was gone a long time ago)
I doubt they even got the speakers the Dead used in the 90's. My guess is all that stuff didn't even belong to the Dead and was rented on a tour by tour basis.
I would not be surprised though if they got some of the on-stage setups. I wonder when DMB started using the IEM system. The Dead were one of the 1st bands to use it starting in 1992. Maybe DMB inherited that system as well.
