Down By The River

I think they do such an awesome job with this cover. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

It's just very DMBesque...IMO. It just sounds like old-school DMB when they play it. That's probably the first time I can say that about new material since the 2004 songs. I really like it.

I like this one too. My opinion is that when covered by Dave and whoever it is highly dependant on a badass solo by someone somewhere. It can be hit o miss sometimes too with the given state of the vocal cords.

i don't like dave's singing on it at all. maybe it's because i'm a bigger neil young fan than DMB, but something about the song just demands a dirty lead guitar on it

    Re: Down By The River

it just made me laugh at the friday night show in vegas.
after the fist chord, i just knew what was coming & the guy next to me was saying "no, this isn't neil young - it's not 'cortez". i decided it wasn't worth the time to try & explain thet neil wrote more than one tune. the nice guy on the other side of me instantly dubbed me 'the oracle' & told the first (nice but very drunk guy) to just stop debating music with me.
sometimes it's fun to be right.
and sometimes girls do know music. :-)

and i do like it but you're right about neil having the right heartbreak in his voice to really thrust the song at you.

so for those who have never heard the neil young versionand for those who don't think it NEEDS a lead guitar here is a live version from 2-25-1970. there is a slight cut in the recording near the end, but you get the picture
