I don't think I see Miller staying though. They've been shopping him all winter. Acquiring chapman gives them the depth to do so without losing anything in the 8-9 innings. Though the only question will be if chapman is suspended, how much time does he lose?

Brian Cashman- "We completed this trade with the intent of having Chapman, Miller, and Betances as a real force in the backend of the bullpen."

Looks like Miller isn't going anywhere.

If the Yankees aren't in it come July, I could see them dealing Chapmin and getting more back than they gave up in this trade. I like it.

i (along with many others) have been saying that for a few years now, they need to get younger. i was willing to put up with some mediocre seasons for however long it takes but they've done a great job this off-season at staying competitive while getting that average age down.

gotta build up a good core to support bryce harper after the 2018 season

Who said that? I said they've had a good offseason, probably top three. Nobody said anything about offseason champs or winning a World Series. There's a really good chance they don't make the playoffs with the starting rotation and aging core they have.

yep. I think there is an expectation that Chapman will be suspended for a good period of time. Either way, Yanks got a steal.

They're going to need to shorten games to 6 innings with the rotation they have anyhow.

Amazing to think he's been with this team for 12-years now.

I think the move benefited both teams actually. The Reds gave him up cheap for two reasons - he is a PR disaster and they likely think he will be suspended plus at years end he is a free agent and will be looking for his payday. Yanks took him hoping that he will not be suspended, that the veterans will guide him towards acting like a normal guy off the field and that with so many contracts coming off the books after the season they will be able to sign him long term. Pretty sure that is the reason both teams made the move, just a guess but logically it makes sense.

it blows my mind that he's been on the yankees for 12 years. really doesnt seem like its been that long.

he's got a chance at tying/beating ruth this year, otherwise he'll definitely do it next year

Yeah 12 years is crazy, especially when you think about the number of revered Yankee legends that have less than 12 years with the team.
