Man Metallica is a monster. Treat their fan base extremely well and just donate their time and money out of their pocket to raise $21 mil. Awesome

    I was incorrect, but it's good — $23M: http://www.sfchronicle.com/entertain...n-12348702.php

Whether you love them or hate him (and I know cry_minarets is in the former category), they do incredible shit for their fans.

They have a four-night, guest-packed festival in a club that holds ~1,500 to celebrate their 30th anniversary with dirt-cheap tickets exclusive to their fan club. Oh, and each night, they had a fan come on stage and play with them.

They put their fans on a boat and bring them to an exclusive show in fucking Antarctica.

They show up the Coliseum in Oakland and play a free, surprise gig in the parking lot for Raiders fans.

They do a meet and greet with fans at their own studio.

They went to San Quentin and played a gig for prisoners.

Love them or hate them, they do some great shit for their fans.

Exactly. People only think of the napster thing with them. Real dumb. Were my favourite band before DMB and have surpassed DMB for the last 5 years.

I thought it was just the broadcast mix that had Tim so high up in the mix. But I watched a couple fan-shot vids on youtube from the show and that was just the mix in general. Dave's guitar is so hard to hear

not to mention the 5-6 fan club only shows in the fall of 2016 to hype up the new album.

not to mention the little things they do (like spontaneously drop a cassette tape if you bought the (re)Master of Puppers box set in a independent owned shop and then a few lucky people who preordered thru met's online shop will be getting it in teh mail

the fan can thing that they do just about yearly from the met shop where they send strings, shirts, picks, etc

all their shows are professionally mixed and put for sale

you can go on and on

metallica the company is certainly a monster and the band knows how to treat their fans well through what they make available to the fanbase

I went to one of the bolded. It's pretty crazy to think about how close I was to them and how inexpensive it was, especially when I usually pay more to sit farther away.

And speaking of standing close to the band, we're jumping way back, but they pioneered the "snake pit" during the tour for the black album, which was a pretty revolutionary concept at the time. And it's goal also was about getting the fans more invested.

me too (webster hall). i don't know how much it was but all the ticket money were donated to local causes i believe, or at least some sort of nonprofit. metallica rented the venue out-of-pocket and paid their crew their normal prices, all out-of-pocket.

I am guessing that this would be a rare show in which Dave and Tim's sound was done by a different soundman. Seems like it was Metallica's event, so maybe their soundman did it and wasn't familiar with how Dave and Tim's sound should be.

I am also guessing that Dave's in-ear-moniters had him loud enough and he had no idea that the sound was the way it was out front or on the webcast.

At the venue -- the sound was brutal. we were in the upper deck and the speakers were just flat out mistimed. they were uneven and fighting against themselves.

That being said, it was an awesome show. no regrets.
