(Reuters) - Arby’s restaurant owner Roark Capital Group will buy Buffalo Wild Wings Inc (BWLD.O) for $2.4 billion, months after an activist investor won seats on the chicken wing restaurant’s board following a proxy fight demanding management change.


Whenever a private equity company takes over restaurants, you get even less for your money. Can't wait to see how this pans out.

I worked with (not for) BWW for about 8 years as a supplier before and after they went public. They used to have good product standards and a realistic/modest growth plan. Once they went public that all had to change. They are overgrown as a chain and their quality and brand has suffered along with that growth. I would expect Roark to close any underperforming company stores and will sell the rest of the company owned locations to existing or new franchisee's. The parent company wont have as much "skin" in the game as they do now. Also BWW used to pride themselves on long time corporate employee's, not sure that will still be the case once they begin shaking things up.

I'm curious about how bad BWW really is to the point that I'm actually thinking about going there and getting a few beers and a plate of wings. I really want to know how you can fuck up wings that badly.


Let me ask those of you who have been to both this... are they worse than Hooters' wings?

I had Hooters wings a few times years ago and thought they were ok. Just different than a traditional buffalo wing. For BWW this is still the one and only fresh protein item that they buy, they are still as far as I know, committed to buying fresh wings. Now that does not mean that the store screwed up and ordered too many and had to freeze them. BWW will fry their wings ahead of time, not to order, and they hold them in a warmer. The good thing that this does it allows the meat to relax a bit so it is not so tough and chewy when you are gnawing on them. The bad is the skin can be rubbery. If you want the skin crispy, just ask the server/bartender that you want the skin crispy. Sauce selection is large; for something different spicy garlic and mango habanero are good. My biggest issue is price and this is an industry issue of not enough supply to meet demand. The serving sizes (doing this from memory so my piece count might be off or it might be different in other markets) with price in my market are;
snack (6) - 7.29
small (8) - 11.79
medium (12) -17.49
Large (16) - 21.29

So a medium plate of wings, that you are getting served in a paper food basket not a real plate, plus 2 large beers will cost you about $30.00 not including tip. Not exactly a cheap meal.

Edit: yes the Caribbean jerk sauce is a good choice for the wings

It's not just the wings... everything is awful. Right down to the fries.

Haven't had Hooter's in a long time so I can't say for sure. I would imagine they are on par though (somewhere between terrible and awful).

I had Hooters for the first time in years and was severely disappointed.

Wtf happened to them? My buddy used to bring them on sundays for the game way back when, say 1997 and I thought they were really good back them.

I think the bolded is something that everyone should consider when discussing if a place has gone downhill. Under appreciated IMO.

I used to get BWW in college a good amount, it was good. Ive gone probably 5x in the past 6+ years and its been terrible every time in different locations.
