Here's the Doctor Who thread! I searched for it a couple days ago but it wouldn't show up.

I'm chugging away starting with the 2005 reboot now, and am loving the show. I've already seen a good chunk of season 5, I absolutely love Matt Smith as the Doctor. And I've heard Tennant is super awesome too. This show just rocks!

I know earlier in this thread I wasn't too hot on Captain Jack, but after watching all of Torchwood, I desperately want to see him make another appearance in Doctor Who. Especially since Davies has said that there will never be a Doctor Who appearance in Torchwood (because an adult character can appear in a family friendly show, but putting the Doctor in an adult show would feel weird), so an appearance in the main show is the only chance for a crossover. You'd have to assume he'll be involved in the 50th anniversary episode, but I'd like a bit more of an arc.

I also really want more Torchwood. I mean, I completely understand the multitude of reasons it's on hiatus right now (Davies' husband has cancer, he has a new children's program on CBBC airing this fall, he started development on a Showtime show which pissed off Starz, who currently holds the production rights to Torchwood, in partnership with the BBC), but still. Would love more Captain Jack.

I've caught quite a few episodes on BBC America, but I haven't watched in chronological order.

How did you like Torchwood's transformation last year?

Wasn't a big fan. I get why they did it, because an American company was footing the bill, but I'm hoping it's back in Wales from here on out, just with the new American team member.

EDIT: I did like the actual story, but didn't really love how they went about it, if that makes sense.

I've just learned via FB, Doctor Who will have one of its very few (if first ever) official Entertainment Weekly cover story. They're doing a special on the top 25 cult TV shows of all time. My issue tends to arrive in the mail on Thursday, I can't wait for tomorrow.

After all our waiting, series 7 is now less than 2 weeks away!! Premiere date September 1st. Brand new trailer

    http://youtu.be/fNHEEZ_I74U

5 straight episodes, the last of which of course Amy & Rory's exit, then a break til the Christmas episode, introducing the new Companion, then a TBD release date for the last 7 episodes in early 2013.

I am so pumped for new Who. I was thinking, shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, etc. are, by the book, "better" (and I love them both to death), but Doctor Who might be my favorite. I get emotionally attached to characters to ridiculous amounts in loads of shows, but none of them compare to the feels I have for this one.

yea and everything I've heard so far points toward there being not much of a traditional run of a 13-ish episode series next year for the 50th anniversary but more likely a handful of separate special episodes, like they did in one of the Tennant years (though that was before I started watching). Plus it seems more and more fans are discussing this notion of the really big episode sorta borrowing the plot structure from It's A Wonderful Life, which if you think about it, would be a natural narrative way to be able to have all of the surviving previous Doctors to return for the anniversary, if he's getting to look at his own past.

Fantastic premiere last night. I thought it was highly interesting how they introduced the character who will eventually be the Doctor's new companion in the first episode.

Yea I'm just still absolutely stunned at how they kept that quiet (particularly given the premiere was screened last week in NYC), all the fans under the understanding she wouldn't show until the Christmas special. Although I'm already hearing a lot of rumor and speculation that the new companion will actually be this character's sister, or other sort of relation, not the exact same person as this episode.

Just backread the whole thread. I watched the whole series on Netflix over the summer. I also can't believe they kept JLC's involvement a secret. Its killing me having to wait to watch new Who. I'm used to watching at least 3 in a sitting.

For whatever reason my phone double posted.

So how about that ending? I can see how it could anger some long time fans, but you know the Doctor and the Daleks will get reacquainted soon enough. I'm hoping this means the Daleks will come into play again in s7.

How freaking hot was Jenna Louise Coleman. Woah. And it appears that they've already set up a possible nickname for her with "souflate girl". I'm sure I misspelled souflate.

If Souffle and The Chin isn't a BBC crime drama spinoff at some point in the next 2 decades, after Smith retires from the Doctor, I'll be sad.

I had the thought that Oswin will eventually come back somehow, but not be in Dalek form, and have no memory of what went down. Somehow.

They infused the idea of selective memory with that first Dalek/human on the asylum planet, who thought his crew was alive. So it's completely possible that she is the Doctor's companion at an earlier time in her own timeline, that the Dalek form refused to remember. Thus setting up almost a reverse River Song storyline, where the Doctor knows her eventual fate, but he's new to her.

No matter how it plays out, I am looking forward to what they come up with.

The question is kind of answered if you go to IMDB.com and look up Jenna-Louise Coleman. I'm not going to say because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who wants to remain in the dark about her character.

It's still amazing that that stayed under wraps. Four different screenings across the world, including one at the BFI a MONTH ago, and no one anywhere leaked anything. Crazy.
