Re: Overall lack of setlist variety so far

Already went to my 1 show this year. Variety, to me, is meaningless b/c I'm not going to another. They could play the same set every night if they wanted to as long as it was good songs. That said, I would hate to see what they've played over the last 3 nights if I was going to a show soon. To know I'm going to get You & Me -> Stay to close a show with the LL's is an absolute let down.

Dave still refuses to play the bands best songs in favor of songs that have been beat to death that's the biggest prob imo. What other bands don't play their best songs live? I'm seriously curious about this.

Dave Matthews has the worst taste in Dave Matthews Band music.

Re: Overall lack of setlist variety so far

We've only seen one two-nighter so far this tour. While I admit that there has been a lack of variety in the sets thus far, I think we should just watch what happens at Camden and Deer Creek. SPAC, other than that awful, awful encore, got 46 different songs, which is more on a two night stand in quite some time. Sure, I'd like to see them throw more variety in, but I'm confident there will be more TD's and the variety will begin to show. I think the acoustic portion will probably remain as is, with maybe a couple more TD's.

This isn't really a thread about attacking the setlists played every night (they've been decent), it's more about the repetition of songs from night to night and predictability of them

Most bands have 1 set they play every night for an entire tour (maybe mix in a different song here and there) and play a variety of their music within that set including their hits and a rarity or 2.

We've definitely been spoiled by this band.

Re: Overall lack of setlist variety so far

I'm happy so far with what they're doing. I won't complain about the setlist when I never thought that they would do two sets in one night like they are. I've always leaned heavier towards acoustic than electric anyway. As long as the Gorge is good, I don't care. Everything online was saying night 3 at the Gorge was going to be rare songs, so all I can do is keep my fingers crossed!

(Really wish Dave was a part of this community himself so he could hear the feedback...)

IDEA....what about voicing it on Wheelhouse, or Twitter or Facebook? Would that help you think?

THIS. Even there though there are some songs I'm not familiar with.

I'd rather go to a show that would grow on me over time than to know every single word at a 'best hits' type of show. I can't be the only one. If the band enjoys what they do, then let them do that and relish in the fact they are still around after all this time! (THANK GOD) -I would probably die if they weren't-

1.) Where "online" is it reported that the gorge N3 is going to be rare songs? Pretty sure Dave wakes up in the morning, and makes the setlist, I doubt they have it planned out this far in advance.

2.) That would be a terrible idea - I'm glad he's NOT a part of this community for reasons like this thread.

3.) No. Dave won't care, and it will likely make him dig his heals in more. Remember the old Pig signs???

Who could forget it. Didn't play one of his best songs a top 10 song at that because his OWN fans wanted too hear it.

Yeah the intentional shelving of songs out of spite or whatever is dumb and frustrating. That's a very valid complaint

I know - I must be losing my touch - just kidding. I just intend to put things in perspective around here, if that's even possible.

Okay, I would take that N3 setlist with a huge grain of salt - whereever it came from is likely not a great source. I don't hate you, just trying to put things in perspective.

As for the Pig story - there's a famous IEM recording of a show in the early 2000's where Dave says that he "won't play the pig" until people stop bringing pig signs to every show. I think it also goes hand in hand with his view of Jimi Thing. Most people around here are sick of hearing it, but the band likes playing it - so they do - All.The.Time.

Most bands don't rely on a large group of their fans attending more than one show a tour.

Seems like, for the most part, they're just playing songs that they know they're comfortable with. You can't argue the fact that these electric sets, for the most part, look like something you'd see in Australia. They have always had more variety in the US except for "festival sets" and it's just very strange to see them not branching out into their catalog more. This band has a massive catalog and it's disappointing to see them sticking to their standard songs for the most part when they could be mixing in a ton of variety like they did last year. They're capable of it, but Dave is just obviously uninspired while writing these electric sets. They're good songs, and I enjoy seeing them live, but it's strange and a bit disappointing when they stick to the same standard tunes. I'm speaking specifically about the electric sets when I say all of this.

Don't worry dude, I have no idea/care what he's talking about either..

I've been listening to DMB and catching shows intermittently since the mid-90's when nick677k (or whatever) was probably trying to get NSYNC to sign his ballsack.

Enjoy the music, catch what you can, and if you believe in the rarites, they will come!

Which is awesome, I miss those days of just being excited to hear the band. I got to a point where when I had heard corn bread and Jimi thing close to 30 times versus PIG and Dreaming Tree three times i had just lost the excitement.

Everything online was saying night 3 at the Gorge was going to be rare songs, so all I can do is keep my fingers crossed!

IDEA....what about voicing it on Wheelhouse, or Twitter or Facebook? Would that help you think?
For a few years, a few years ago, I think N3 at the gorge was known to be the better night of the three night stand, probably because of rare songs being brought out after the over played ones had been heard. Of the last few stands at the gorge what night was best is debatable. Personally, N2 was my favorite last year. Either way you are most likely going to get to hear some rare songs, and probably a tour debut as well!! But you have to go to all three nights to get it.

Agreed... I think their starting to lose that reliability though. There's more 1 night stands - a trend that will likely continue as the fanbase ages/dwindles.

I'm trying to give this guy a little perspective, too often around here people get caught up in rumors and claim to have information from "sources".

What I get upset with is people saying the band has no variety, that they're phoning in this tour, etc. When that's not the case.

I enjoy the music, and enjoy every show I go to.

As for the NSYNC comment - that was uncalled for. Seriously, none of my comments were ever malicious.

That's why we have tapers right? They catch the things I can't afford to see!

I dont know nick677k but I do know that when he argues, he does it with reason which is more than most around here can say. When someone is blatantly mislead about something there is nothing wrong with letting them know that. Especially when it comes to going to the gorge to hear rarities on N3.
