so even though I've never watched the US version of The Office, I heard they were revealing the makers of the documentary last night, so I just Dl'd the episode and skimmed to the end. Is that guy Brian a character who was already established in the show? I'm kinda surprised, I thought the way they'd introduce that answer was having Pam realize that everything was okay because the documentary guys would've filmed the daughter's recital.

you seem to have totally missed the significance and meaning of that scene.

Brian hasnt been established to the audience, but its obvious that the crew is a big part of everyones life. And in a show that is mainly comedic, this was the first time having a super serious scene like this one in this show.

Well I already said all this right after the pilot aired in the actual Following thread, but I thought it was cliches all over the place and rather predictable.

That's well within the realm of possibility. I've never really watched the American The Office (besides some clips here and there), I only downloaded that episode and skimmed to the end because I was curious to see how they'd handle the reveal, that's all.

Those are certainly the highlights of the show. In general though, there's just too much CW schmaltz for my liking.

You're not the only comic geek on here, but I'm not a big enough fan of Green Arrow to watch it.

    HIMYM
    Happy Endings
    The Middle
    Modern Family
    Revenge
    Girls
    Dexter
    True Blood

Anyone planning to watch BATES MOTEL on A&E? It starts up in March. I'm still not sure. I'm certainly a fan of Vera Farmiga, Carlton Cuse's involvement is a big plus and also I think it might only be intended as a one "season" thing, which I consider intriguing, but I'm just hesitant about any good stories of back when Mother was alive.

Damn what happened to my original TV thread? There was a lot of good discussion in there.

Anyway, just finished House of Cards. Good - sometimes very good - but not elite quite yet.

As for currently airing shows: Justified, Archer, The Americans, Game of Thrones, Hunted, Parenthood, Boardwalk, Treme, Girls, Veep, SNL, The Newsroom, Mad Men, Magic City.

I already referenced a little bit of this earlier, but apparently there got to be some heated discussion and some things were said on the day of its closing (though I personally saw none of it) and it was deleted by a Mod who was admittedly just having a bad day.

that Mod can come here and talk more openly about it if they wish, but that's pretty much all I know anyway. As I said at the start, I created this new one with their blessing.

While House of Cards is great drama, I wish there were more likeable characters. But I suppose this is true to life in some respects e.g. how politicians behave.

Agree completely. I thought Russo and his secretary are pretty likable, but that's all I'll say about that for now. Don't want to spoil anything.

House of Cards suffers from many of the same problems that drowned Boss -- to much Machiavellian scheming among horrible people. There's no one to root for. There's a difference between a flawed antihero like Vic Mackey or Walter White and a completely amoral sociopath like Frank Underwood or Claire Underwood or Kate Mara's reporter character. I don't know how far you are in the series so I won't divulge too much, but some horrible shit goes down late. Doesn't mean its not fantastically entertaining, just hard to connect with.

I also thought you really have to suspend belief and accept that characters make stupid decisions at critical times in order for it all to come together. There's a plot in the second half that becomes crucial to the story that hinges on one character making several extremely questionable decisions under flimsy circumstances. If he didn't, nothing would have panned out. You'll see what I mean when you get there, but it's glaring in its chain of ridiculousness.

Still, it's a really strong show and compulsively entertaining. Watch it.
