We are all extremely lucky to still being talking about this band on a daily basis in such a present tense.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band and Pearl Jam to name a couple.

Longevity is definitely more common with a solo artist, it takes a lot to keep a team together for any amount of time. Though looking over artists it is amazing to see how many have either been touched by death or simply retired. Even Bruce and Co. had the stretch of his more solo endeavors.

Even the E Street Band had a couple deaths and a couple other members that left to do other things. I'd put DMB into the same camp that the E Street Band is in of bands who nearly stayed completely together throughout their decades of existence despite tragic events and unforeseen circumstances.

Eh, DMB has had 11 people in it and only 3 have stayed in tact the whole time

I’ve tried and tried and tried to get into Phish, but in all that time only a few songs ever clicked. But Phish did have a founding member leave in the ‘80s.

Regardless, their line-up has stayed the same since 1985.

No he joined the band in 2008 and has been a member since then.

He toured as a guest in 1998. That’s it. He guested on one show between 1998-2008 (8.23.2004)

He guested a handful of times before 1998 (A couple shows in 1993 and a few in 1995)

By the way, ToyS, you should check out those 93 shows with Tim if you haven’t before. Excellent shows. 12.7.93 and 12.8.93. They were Tim’s first full band shows and also the last regular shows at Trax and Flood Zone (respectively)

The point RSSR was trying to make was that DMB has "nearly stayed completely together" which I don't quite see as it has continuously changed since the beginning

Re: Share your unpopular DMB opinions.

I don't really think of the band that differently then what they were just because there's a through-line between the older and newer members. Tim was always around, albeit on the outskirts of the band for the earlier part of their career. Rashawn was brought in by Leroi before his passing, and Jeff has guested with them multiple times before and been in the same circles for years. There's enough continuity in the wider community of DMB that even though the members are different, I've never felt like the "band" was too far from the original idea.

That being said I know lacking a violin is a sore spot for many right now, and while I wish the violin sound would return, that's the one change that felt like the first time something dramatically shifted in the sound of the band. I know all of the different eras and have been a fan since around '01, but seeing them in '18 was the first moment I thought "man these guys are really getting up there". Even so, I'm still happy with the lineup and love the band and Buddy's inclusion.

I wasn’t trying to make any point about the validity of the band from a fan standpoint other than the 4 have been together since ~1985? 35 years is an impressive time span to still be touring and creating the music that they are.

A lot of established bands in the jam band scene are approaching the 25 year mark at this point, as well, and still fitting that close-to-original lineup: Disco Biscuits, STS9, Lotus (off the top of my head) have all had good runs with a majority of the original members.

Nothing ever bothered me about them. I don't want a 15 minute Angel with them, but otherwise I could care less if they were at a show, and would honestly be happy to see that happen.

I'd prefer Vegas 2020 over a 2019 release. In my opinion, the Vegas show is the best the band has sounded since Boyd's departure.

When people say this, it has to be because they've never actually seen a show with the ladies. They're completely worthless and add NOTHING to a DMB show. Nothing. I'd love for someone to list even a top three of things the ladies have brought/added to a DMB show, let alone a top five or top ten.

I remember when they came out in Southaven in 2014 (2015?) and so many people freaked out. They knew it'd be a long time since the Ladies were regularly appearing with DMB. It wasn't even halfway through the first song that people were cringing.

The lady next to me asked why everyone was cheering when they came out so I explained. After the first song she turned back to me and said they weren't very good.
