Re: Live Trax 38 - SPAC 1996

Interesting choice. I haven't heard this set, so I have no opinion at the moment. I recently picked up LT 18 for the first time and love that show, so I'm sure this will be more of that same quality.

Honestly, even though there's not much difference in the '96 releases we have, they've all been very strong shows to me. Even LT 4 which doesn't get a lot of love around here is really good to me. I'll be picking LT 38 up

It's not like it changed a whole lot from performance to performance.

People have been wanting more releases from 96 and 97 and now we have one but it's nothing to get excited about? I may not rush to pre-order, but what more do people want? We get 4 live releases a year from different eras of the band. That's pretty cool, I think. The band didn't have as much material in 96 as they do now, so if they release multiple shows from that year they're going to have similar sets. Not really all that surprising.
    Very well said.

I know it's not a release with lots of rarities and a lot of people are looking for that at this point since we do have many releases from the band in general, but I'm all about performance and mix. If a show is well played, I will listen to it WAY more often than I'll listen to a poorly executed show with a rarity or two on it.

Hay This show has the same shitty encore as the other night.
This set is amazing to me. I'm really glad this will be the next live trax

This may not have the most unique setlist or anything but its a really really solid collection of classic DMB that I could keep in my car stereo for a few weeks.

People tend to jump the gun before they actually listen or go to a show. For all anyone knows there could be a phenomenal solo by Roi on Best of What's Around, or on Jimi Thing (Jimi was great around this era). Even on paper this set list is fantastic, so I can only imagine if it has even better performances.

That's all I'm saying. Of course the set is great.
I'm with you. Set looks amazing and I'm sure performances are stellar.

Surprised they didn't do a third disc with more tracks like 31,33,34

Will be buying though. I'm sure it's still awesome but we do have a lot of 94-96.

Honestly some of my favorite LT releases are shows like this:

    LT17, LT18, LT5 (favorite DMB release EVER), LT21, LT34, LT12

On paper these shows may not be exceptional, but the performances are solid and prime examples of DMB playing at their best.

I'm with you. LT5 is so good.

I'm excited for this release with the 5 members.

Maybe it is, but this release feels pedestrian. There's nothing about this release that gives me the need to pre-order this.

Deed is Done was played once Summer 96 and that show is already a Live Trax. 6/11 could have been cool though. Toy Soldiers debut, Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago and Watermelon Smilin' on the Vine. Looks like there are also unique versions of Rain that tour so yeah, that would have been cool. Nothing initially jumped out to me either when I saw the setlist but they obviously played a lot of the same songs in 96.

Looks like a greatest hits set. I'll probably DL it at some point but certainly not going to preorder the CD and pay for shipping. They should have saved the LT 18 for this year. That would have felt appropriate.

I wish they'd just give us access to all the shows for a subscription or something. A subscription to stream, and maybe extra for a DL. I know these shows are mixed professionally, but if they have quality soundboards, why not just give us access to the entirety of say 94-96 at this point? Rather than trying to randomly pick and choose them when they all kind of run together 20 years later.

I think the LTs releases should be special too. This release would fit more in the DMBlive category IMO, but again those are reserved for soundboard only. And it too carries some special and unique releases.

    Solid Live Trax.

Smart move celebrating three anniversaries in one release.
    (Crash 20, DMB 25, SPAC 50)

I had to laugh when they referenced Jimi Thing as being on Crash.

Obviously this is a good choice BUT i find it funny that they are releasing a show to support the "Crash" album tour and they are choosing a show that DOESNT open with #41>Say Goodbye..
Flub on the managements part as 41/saybye was always the standard back then 9/10 nights.

also the next night at jones beach 6/9/96 and pnc 6/11/96 were much better

Anyone else annoyed that the picture the used for the cover appears to be of SPAC after the 2012 remodel with the newer paneling wrapping he pavilion? Or am I the only one with weird OCD like that who thinks they should have used an older picture before then to better represent the 1996 show.

sure a great show, but will probably pass also. I'm a sucker for a bonus disc of any kind, so a compilation of some highlights from the other night would have done it for me.
