What is the reasoning that Democrats have against voter IDs? What's the issue?

In a vacuum, I have no problem with it - provided that all eligible voters are provided with one at absolute zero cost to them; meaning not just costs for application and the ID, but actively distributing the IDs to prevent costs of commuting to registration or time/pay lost from work. Basically, you’d need auto registration and mass distribution.
And that’s not what has been proposed. What the proposals have all been, essentially, is a poll tax for the poor and minorities in urban areas. And that is the exact intent - to reduce registered voters and to reduce overall voting. And a lot of the laws add additional obstacles for the young - like deeming a
university ID as insufficient identification. It all boils down to a blatant attack on the voting populations that do not vote the way the Republicans - who are the ones pushing these bills - want them to vote.
Moreover, the push for voter ID is a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. In person voter fraud, the type that voter ID is intended to prevent, is virtually zero. It’s a waste of taxpayer money.
