Re: *Prompter Thread* (NO personal attacks, NO trolling)

Just a normal Sunday at Global Vision Bible Church as right-wing pastor Greg Locke literally screams at his congregation "do not get vaccinated" while saying that only "crack-smoking, demon-possessed leftists" think Biden is the legitimate president.

I guess when Muskie says "The Left" he just means MSNBC? Because who on the left isn't talking about this, aside from mainstream media?

    Vary kooky stuff.

The type of person that not only attends a "church" like that, but also is enthusiastically appluading and cheering is the type of person who is truly lost in the sauce. I don't know how you get that far down the hole in life.

So I do not know enough about the topic at this moment to have an opinion so I'd like for someone here to explain it.

What is the reasoning that Democrats have against voter IDs? What's the issue?

In a vacuum, I have no problem with it - provided that all eligible voters are provided with one at absolute zero cost to them; meaning not just costs for application and the ID, but actively distributing the IDs to prevent costs of commuting to registration or time/pay lost from work. Basically, you’d need auto registration and mass distribution.

And that’s not what has been proposed. What the proposals have all been, essentially, is a poll tax for the poor and minorities in urban areas. And that is the exact intent - to reduce registered voters and to reduce overall voting. And a lot of the laws add additional obstacles for the young - like deeming a university ID as insufficient identification. It all boils down to a blatant attack on the voting populations that do not vote the way the Republicans - who are the ones pushing these bills - want them to vote.

Moreover, the push for voter ID is a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. In person voter fraud, the type that voter ID is intended to prevent, is virtually zero. It’s a waste of taxpayer money.

If the government is going to implement new rules on voting eligibility, then it should be the state/local government that is legislating the changes to be the ones to ensure no eligible voter’s constitutional right to vote is infringed on or buried behind the red tape.

Better yet - why don’t the Republicans just provide evidence that in-person voter fraud is occurring in the type of numbers they suggest demands legislative action? That seems like the proper starting point

Just a reminder that north Dakota doesn't have voter registration and somehow republicans win that state all the time.

Sure would be nice to get a couple of permanent D senators by cheating. Unbelievable Dems haven't thought of that yet and instead just do enough cheating to barely win (and sometimes lose) in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, etc.

Maybe not often, but there have been several extended conversations about this issue, particularly in the Covid thread.

Once again, Babs with the knowledge. This helps me better understand. It seems like IDs are not an issue. It's the cost and difficulty that's the problem.
