Re: Before These Crowded Streets Vinyl Count

I just bought a used one on eBay for $225. I don't think it has the cut. I've been waiting years and just sold my house, so why not? I'm sure value will drop with the reissue, but I've wanted this for years

I feel bad for the collectors of this when they finally drop the reissue. I hope they do something special with the packaging that differentiates the reissue in order to differentiate the two and make the original feel more special.

I have a feeling the reissue will be two discs and it's my understanding the current release is only 1 - am I wrong?

Value is one thing, but having the original pressing of my favorite album is really all that matters to me. I'm never going to sell it. I just want to have the original

As crappy as a lot of 90s vinyl is, this would have run 38:47 on SIDE A and 31:26 on SIDE B as a single LP...not sure anyone would even have attempted cutting those sort of running times.

I remember seeing one at a Virgin Megastore prob around 2000 and thought about buying it, then putting it back saying "i'll just get it later."

    Whoops!

Thank you for commenting on the sound. Trying to find any info about it online as I think I'm gonna buy a sealed copy from someone for $150 today. Found someone near me who worked at RCA and had several copies. Bought one from him 2 years ago and couldn't justify opening it, and sold it for ebay prices. But this album has grown on me a lot over the last two years, and if the sound is good I want a copy.

    What's your setup? Decent turntable?

I have 1 sealed and one VG- that I listen to on occasion.

I'd like a sell the VG- and snag a slightly cleaner copy.

I’ve got an audio technica 120 with Bose speakers.

From someone who has converted from Bose speakers to non-Bose, you might want to think about some other brands. Bose's stuff is generally really over priced and "colored" audio meaning they have built-in EQ to "enhance" the audio, but some people dislike that as it's not how the music was meant to sound. To each his own, but if you ever upgrade look at brands like Infinity, Klipsch, JBL, Harman Kardon, Yamaha.

Don't waste your money, when the reissue comes out it will be done properly...it's highly unlikely the existing pressing, done at STERLING in 1998, is anything other than the CD master cut to vinyl.

I think these will continue to sell in the $100-$150 range for a bit, but definitely markedly lowered than the current range.

The vinyl market is still in a boom, and until the bubble pops, you'll still see some demand for a first press that is OOP.

That said, the '98 pressing likely won't be in the same stratosphere as the eventual re-release in terms of sound quality.

So pumped by both these comments Any whispers to a timeframe for release?

I asked a question similar to this in another thread and the response I got goes something like this:

Since UTTAD and CRASH's vinyl were released months after the actual anniversaries of the albums don't expect BTCS to release in April 2018.

I would guess in the fall. Since an new studio album is coming out and there is a summer tour.

This was what I posted in the Record Store Day thread regarding the timeline for BTCS 20th Anniversary: https://antsmarching.org/forum/showp...&postcount=897

    Quote:
It will be released. The new album probably throws a bit of a curveball into the timing, but I've seen no indication that plans have been scrapped of a re-release on vinyl for the anniversary. All indications are that sometime later this year we'll see it.

For reference, because it was asked in another thread, below are the comparisons for the month/year of the original album release, and the same for the 20th anniversary vinyl releases:

R2T was released on 11/9/93, the anniversary vinyl release was on 6/17/14. ~7 months after anniversary date.

Recently was released on 5/17/94, the anniversary vinyl release was 11/28/14. ~6 months after anniversary date.

UTTAD was released 9/27/94, the anniversary vinyl release was initially released 11/21/14 but was a mispress with a wrong Jimi Thing cut, and then the corrected versions went out 2/22/15. Initially it would have been 2 months past the anniversary date, but eventually was 5 months after.

Crash was released 4/30/96, the anniversary vinyl release was on 7/15/16. 2.5 months after anniversary date.

I assume we'll see something this fall. But I don't think it'll be a Record Store Day release.

I almost feel like they just keep forgetting about the dates, then when the anniversary comes around they say "we should do a re-release of this". It shouldn't be that hard to match release dates, and would be pretty cool, but I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter.

As long as BTCS ends up coming out well and I get a copy in my hands eventually I'll be happy. Although it would be sick to have it drop before the tour and possibly push some more BTCS into regular rotation.

Unlikely this would be the case. It just takes a while for all pieces to come together to do these releases, especially if they want to get it right. The pressing plants are working overtime to keep up with demand of the vinyl boom (and you have 2 record store days per year to keep them backed up for months on end).

Yeah, perhaps it would be cool for a strict day-of anniversary release, but as long as they keep up the quality work, I'm fine with the timing so far.

I'm not an expert on the subject by any means, and have only been collecting for about a year, but wouldn't it be fair to say that like any media that is desirable, a first pressing is always more valuable and sought after? I'm always looking for BTCS online and hope to score one, and if there is a reissue, I'll grab that too to have a perfect copy but I think having an original pressing is always better.

no. that's not fair to say.

vinyl prices are purely supply-based. the re-release is going to completely destroy the price for the original. and that's a good thing! the original will be inferior to the re-release.

And the reissue will be vastly better quality than the first pressing of BTCS.

I think that it’s important to separate “collector” and “enthusiast”. I know lots of vinyl “collectors” who have stacks of records but don’t even own a record player.
