Re: Is DMB your favorite band?
They are my favorite band. I used to think I hated them. I used to be such a music snob, I was super into Progressive Rock, Jazz Fusion, and Classical when I was going through high school. I was always judging bands/music based on, basically, how "talented" I perceived the musician's to be. By my senior year, I started getting into Phil Collins solo career sorta as a joke, but then fell in love with him and "pop" in general. It was a big step for me to get out of the "it's not good if it's not complex" mindset. I still love Jazz, and Prog as they've shaped my musical tastes, but I've found so much more joy in music when it's not a competition of who has the most crazy time signature changes and bass solos etc. After high school I started extensively diving into Pop, and New Wave music, and Funk music and, early Electronic music (like YMO and Kraftwerk), and Folk music while still going back to my roots of Complex music and Jazz. I eventually realized the sounds that I like, and how all the genre's that I enjoy listening to most, are all linked in some way. And that's why DMB is my favorite band. They take all of my favorite sounds and mend them so well into one package. They are a Rock band, but they are so much more than that. I've obsessed over a lot of bands through my life, but nothing to the extent of what I have with DMB. I thank my brother for introducing me to this band that quickly became and will remain, my favorite.
